Bill Wilson is happy to say that he’s acquired Lehigh Defense, a popular manufacturer of high-quality ammunition and advanced projectiles. Lehigh Defense is joining Chip McCormick Custom, Circle WC Ranch, Khumba Bush Camp, Scattergun Technologies, Wilson Custom Ammunition, and, of course, the Wilson Combat family of companies under Wilson’s leadership.
David Fricke, founder of Lehigh Defense and Lehigh Design, is retaining minority ownership of the company in order to help with the transition and to guide the company over the next few years through some big transitions.
“Lehigh Defense currently operates two manufacturing plants, one in Pennsylvania and one in South Dakota,” said Wilson Combat in the announcement. “Once a new purpose-built facility in northeast Texas is completed in Q3 2022 some operations will begin the move to their new home in Texas.”
“There are immediate plans to increase production and some products are already in production in Arkansas at the Wilson Combat facility to rapidly increase production capacity,” Wilson continued. “Lehigh will have a substantial increase in manufacturing capacity and a state-of-the-art testing facility once the Texas plant is operational. Our goal is to meet product demand, add exciting new products and build brand awareness.”

Wilson Combat has long been an early adopter and innovator in the ammunition field. While the company makes many firearms that use common chamberings, they tend to produce options in niche and in-house chamberings, especially when it comes to rifles.
“Lehigh started working with Black Hills Ammunition in developing unique military projectile designs,” they said. “Years of collaboration later, the Fluid Transfer Monolithic design culminated with the release of the Black Hills Honey Badger line. Another patented design is the Maximum Expansion 300 Blackout subsonic bullet used by the US and many NATO special operations groups throughout the world with over 7 million sold to date.”
Lehigh Defense is best known for its distinct projectiles and hard-hitting hunting and defensive ammo. They make a variety of solid copper bullets optimized for penetration, expansion, weight retention, and more, including complete ammunition.

There’s a lot of companies being bought up and conglomerating into bigger and bigger mega monopolies that are good for providing many more services and products in one place but it usually means a significant increase in prices, we are already paying way too much for products because of a dysfunctional government, I hate to see what will happen when the smaller specialized companies are swallowed up into a few mega-monsters that because of greed will set prices at whatever they please because of lack of selections, low competition and they know they can get away with it. Another thing to consider, a lot of these places are building more and bigger plants to increase production, which is good, but who do you think is going to pay for them???
I have long been a huge supported of Lehigh Defense’s projectiles. Their Fluid Transfer Monolithic Design bullets (Extreme Defender and Extreme Penetrator) are a HUGE improvement for FBI requirements for penetration through all media, size of wound channel, and reliable feeding. They truly make my HSTs and Critical Dutys obsolete. Further, their Maximum Expansion .300 Blackout bullet does the same for subsonic .300 Blackout. Lehigh projectile, loaded on Underwood and Black Hills, have been my go-to for years!
