A man in Illinois is looking to find 50 neighbors who pass his “babysitter test” and buy them each a shotgun. The test? Have a state gun license and be a woman.

The man, Robert Bertrand, says he’s already found five women who’ve passed his test and he’s looking for help arming more. He’s got a website set up for people looking for information and for others to donate to the cause.

“I am a father, a husband, and a Navy veteran,” he said. “Based on mountains of research and an overwhelming consensus of law enforcement officers, military vets, and crime experts we believe the best way to help women is by empowering them to exercise their rights.”

“I now seek to help the women in Southern Illinois who are most vulnerable of becoming victims of violent crime,” he continued. “With your help I will assist 50 women in attaining 50 shotguns.”

“The amount of work that I have put into this project has been worth it,” said Bertrand on the Help 50 website. “I could quit today satisfied that I helped two women become a little safer. The truth is there is a lot more work to be done and to do that work I need to raise more money.

“With every donation I get a step closer to my goal of arming and training 50 women here in Southern Illinois,” he added. “Every dollar counts and I am making the most of it.”

“Especially in Mt. Vernon, some areas are kind of rough,” he added. “A lot of people are worried about burglars in the middle of the night.”

Bertrand set up a GoFundMe page which has since been removed. As a result, he’s partnered with the Armed Citizen Project which has a similar goal of arming new gun owners. The Armed Citizen Project started in Texas and is now active in multiple states.

The two organizations are raising money by getting referrals for t-shirt and accessory sales through Amazon.

Bertrand said he’s focused on arming women because, “I’m not giving them to guys, because they always ask for guns,” he said. In addition to giving away guns, Bertrand is arranging training for the women through NRA-certified classes.

According to Bertrand, he has about 30 more women interested in the deal. He’s looking to buy each one a 20-gauge H&R Pardner Pump Compact, which is an entry-level pump shotgun built for smaller-framed shooters.

So far the comments have been negative bullshit, I’ll be the first to say it. How about being positive and glad that there’s somebody out there who’s getting women involved. If we could get more women involved we probably could take away the stereotypes that most women have with firearms, thus also stopping stupid legislation from being passed in Illinois or other states. So people, just stop with the negative bullshit stupid comments and hope this catches on. the more people who get involved the more people there are to protect the Second Amendment.

    A SHOTGUN?
    That’s lame!
Those shotguns are nearly as big as they are!
The minute they go outside the home they are UNARMED and then the local scum know when and where to get a shotgun!
    I did one better!
She got her F.O.I.D. card, is now armed with a decent copy of a 1911 in 9mm and we are scheduling her CCW class!
The only problem is that now she is eyeballing my Browning 1911-22 compact.
    OH YEAH!
    LOL!

Haha.. I live near Southern Illinois. That country is about as redneck as I have seen (After living in Arkansas, Alabama, Missouri and Indiana). There is probably several firearms in each home, many hunt, fish, camp, hike and shoot on a regular basis. However, they have to live by the state laws establish for Chicago. They pay high taxes, thanks to the political machine in Chicago (The birthplace of Obama’s political career) squandering away their money. They have some of the most onerous gun laws of any state. Until recently, they couldn’t have a CCL, however, the Supreme court ruled that unconstitutional. But in order to get a CCL, it is quite painful and expensive, thanks to Chicago. Heck, outlawing of Automatic (Switchblade) Knives and the outlawing of automatic firearms is because of Chicago. They are right in beefing up the security and hunkering down.

I disagree with Klmber… I think a youth 20ga pump is THE ideal weapon for an inexperienced shooter. It is effective, much more accurate than a handgun in unpracticed hands, easy to operate and has very little recoil.
As far as those IL comments, they are mostly true except semi-automatic firearms are NOT illegal in IL. Some cities have a 10 rd ordinance. Pnly one town has a ban on AR/AKs. Also, it was a federal district court that struck down the “ban” on concealed carry, not the SCOTUS. The court stated that if the state did not pass a “shall issue” permit law the court would decree “constitutional carry.” Yes, the state is run by Chicago democrats, with 30% of our downstate neighbors still dumb enough to vote for them, but we have a secret weapon: The Illinois State Rifle Association has done a Hero’s job in defending our rights through lobbying work and several lawsuits. I am a life member. I urge everyone who cares about our rights to join, even if you don’t live in IL. God bless and stay safe.

“Especially in Mt. Vernon, some areas are kind of rough,” he added. “A lot of people are worried about burglars in the middle of the night.” Mt. Vernon? Ha! He should see the West Side of Chicago. Seriously, doing the program there would be alot more beneficial. The city would try to shut him down, of course. Would make for an interesting gun-rights court case.
