Gun enthusiast and YouTube personality Brandon Herrera, known as “The AK Guy,” took to his channel to discuss a surprising—and hilarious—turn of events: his nomination as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

In his latest episode of Gun Meme Review, Herrera riffed on the political landscape, the power of memes, and the chaos his hypothetical appointment could unleash.

“After last week’s election, I just really wanted to check in and ask how you guys are doing—because I’m doing [expletive] great, baby,” Herrera began, clearly reveling in recent developments.

He quipped about being free from election ads and texts, adding, “Mariah Carey, it’s time!”

The video took a humorous turn as Herrera revealed his unexpected nomination for the top ATF job.

“I was informed that my name was brought up… and it turns out I was nominated for the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives,” he shared.

Herrera couldn’t hide his amusement at the idea, saying, “Not something I had in my 2024 bingo card, but it’s been a very fun development.”

A Meme-Driven Campaign

Herrera credited his audience’s meme-making prowess for his skyrocketing popularity in this “campaign,” jokingly referring to the ongoing efforts as “meme warfare.”

He added, “If the Trump Administration decided to ask me to become Director of the ATF, I would gladly accept… please, God, let this happen. It would be so [expletive] funny.”

Herrera shared his vision for the role, which he claimed could legally involve some creative interpretations of firearm regulations.

“For example, the Hughes Amendment doesn’t allow you to register machine guns after 1986,” he explained. “But it also says the ATF can open 90-day amnesty periods. Imagine a 90-day period where machine guns suddenly became as common as AR-15s.”

A Spirit Halloween at ATF Headquarters?

Herrera didn’t hold back when describing his potential plans for the agency.

“There’s nothing I’d rather see more than the headquarters of the ATF turned into a [expletive] Spirit Halloween,” he joked.

He also vowed to donate his salary to no-kill dog shelters and rid the agency of controversial training practices, saying, “They shot the gorilla, and it [expletive] the timeline all up.”

Though Herrera acknowledged that his appointment is unlikely, he couldn’t resist imagining the chaos.

“Can you imagine how [expletive] wild those Senate confirmation hearings are going to be?” he asked, before adding, “Most of them can’t even disassemble a Glock, much less understand the intricacies of firearm law.”

The Gun Community Reacts

Herrera’s audience has rallied behind the idea, flooding social media with memes and jokes.

“You guys saw what happened last time you actually got out to vote,” Herrera said, encouraging fans to keep up the meme campaign.

While he downplayed the chances of a real appointment, Herrera ended on a hopeful note: “Oh my God, can you imagine a world with me at the helm of the ATF? That agency would never walk right again.”

As always, Herrera signed off in his trademark style, promising more range videos and encouraging viewers to “keep the memes coming.”

Whether or not this meme-fueled nomination gains serious traction, Herrera and his fans are clearly having fun with the possibility—and making waves in the process.
