Garmin has announced the Tactix 8, a new tactical smartwatch designed for rugged environments. It meets military standards for thermal, shock, and water resistance and has a 40-meter dive rating with leakproof buttons.

The watch comes in two sizes, a 51mm solar model with extended battery life and a 47mm AMOLED model with a high-resolution display. The solar model can last up to 48 days in smartwatch mode, while the AMOLED version runs up to 16 days per charge.
New features include rucking mode, which allows users to input pack weight for more accurate activity tracking. The watch also integrates Applied Ballistics®, providing long-range shooting calculations. The Elite version includes the full Applied Ballistics Elite solver for advanced calculations.

Other tactical features include Stealth Mode, which disables wireless communication while still recording movement, and Night Vision Mode, which dims the display to be visible only through night optics.
The built-in speaker and microphone allow users to take calls and issue voice commands without needing a phone. Advanced mapping and navigation include multi-continent TopoActive maps, customizable layers, and an Outdoor Maps+ subscription for additional satellite imagery and terrain data.
The watch supports multi-band GPS and SatIQ™ for better positioning accuracy while managing battery life efficiently.
For aviation use, the Direct-To-Navigation feature provides real-time weather overlays, METARs, TAFs, and NEXRAD radar. The watch also supports jump types like HALO, HAHO, and static jumps through the Jumpmaster feature.
The Garmin Tactix 8 is available for $1,299.99 and will be released on February 21st. More details can be found at Garmin.com.
