In a clip that went viral this week, a former Army Officer and self-described “gun lover” argued that the government needs to further restrict 2A rights to prevent mass shootings like the recent mall attack in Allen, Texas.
“When you get hit with an automatic weapon fire at close range, there is no opportunity for survival,” Steven Spainhouer told MSNBC in an interview.
Spainhouer, who is also a former police officer continued, “I don’t know what the gunman’s problem was, but it wasn’t mental health that killed these people. It was an automatic rifle with bullets.”

The shooting happened on Saturday inside the Allen Premium Outlets. Nine people were killed, including the perpetrator. Spainhouer was reportedly in the mall during the attack.
Mainstream media is reporting that the gunman used an “AR-15-style rifle” in the attack.
“I’m a gun lover. I have guns. I’m a former police officer. I’m a former Army officer. But these M-4s, AR-15s, they’ve got to get off the streets, or this is going to keep happening,” Spainhouer said during the Sunday interview. “We’ve got to stop that at some point.”

“All the politicians are going to make statements. They’re going to offer prayers and condolences,” Spainhouer added. “Prayers and condolences won’t bring these people back. We need some action in our legislatures at the federal and state level for better gun control. And I’m saying that as someone who loves guns.”
President Biden on Sunday called on Congress to pass a sweeping ban on “assault weapons.” Biden vowed to sign the bill into law, “immediately.”

Actually he was not in the mall during the attack. They have these things called cameras now and he’s not on them. They didn’t see any automatic weapons on them either. Don’t let that stand in the way of the narrative… I wonder if he got paid?

For all your credentials, you seem to not even be able to differentiate semi-automatic from automatic. You also seem to confuse an inanimate object with animate objects. Without someone pulling the trigger, the gun can’t fire. Without someone to load the bullets, the bullets can’t be fired. Only the person that pulls the trigger is to blame. And if for some reason they can’t get a gun, then they will fins another way – machete, car, hammer, speargun, bow and arrow – you name it… if it can kill they will find it and use it.
I too was an Army Officer for 9 years, I swore an oath to defend the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES. Maybe you should relook the oath you took and re-evaluate your beliefs, because you are betraying the oath you took.
Funny how it’s never an “Army Sergeant” or an “NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer)” making these statements, it’s always an officer. With a decade and a half of military service, I can honestly state that the vast majority of commissioned officers (not all) that I have encountered were idiots. Sure, they had a college degree, but most had little to no common sense or practical knowledge. And every one above the rank of Major was more of a politician who was bucking for a star than they were a boots-on-the-ground soldier. I’m not saying that is universally true, it’s just my personal experience.
I have a college degree and chose to enlist. I could have gotten an officer commission. I chose not to. I am a retired MSG and took the oath several times in my 21 years and I guarantee that I will continue to protect the Constitution from both foreign and domestic enemies. As a concerned citizen, I sometimes have to sit and wonder if we are being lead by morons. If you beat somone to death with a hammer, nobody blames Stanley, for making the hammer, or the hammer itself, they blame the perpetrator who used the hammer. The rifle, pistol, hammer, knife, or brick for that matter, did not walk there on its own and decide to start killing. We lose sight of basic realities, that the killer is a human, that made a decision to kill. The tool or method is not the issue, but that human. The lack of focus on mental health, is a bigger problem than the AR-15. If all guns were gone from the world, may i remind you of the saying, that A running man with a knife, can cut a hundred throats in a night. Would it be a knife problem or a people problem then? You are correct about fully automatic weapons NOT being used. There was a single case of a full auto rifle that was used and that was by a police officer in the 1960s.
Army Officers like Naval Officers have a bad habit about speaking when they should keep their mouths shut. They are trained to believe they are all-knowing and all caring even though they are neither. I spent 20 years in the Navy, and to be honest there may have been a hand full of officers that I truly trusted and respected. So just because an Army Officer makes those claims that he made, doesn’t make him right or all-knowing on the subject matter. In fact it would be nice to see his actual service jacket just to verify what his expertise was. It would also be nice to see his Fitness Reports just to get an idea of what his seniors thought about him and his experience. What I am saying is just because he is ex-army, that in and of itself does not make him an expert on firearms. Hell many officers never see an actual firearm other than maybe basic firearms training. I know during my 20 year career, I never had to actually use a firearm, however, I did chose to go to the range and qualify with with both M-14 and 1911. Earning scores high enough to earn the title of Pistol and Rifle Expert.

I am not a law enforcement officer, I was not in any military service, but even I know that a semi-automatic gun is NOT an automatic (AR-15).
