The FBI just dropped its 2024 Active Shooter Report, and here’s the surprising headline: active shooter incidents fell by 50% last year.

Yeah, you read that right. The number of attacks classified as active shooter events dropped from 48 in 2023 to just 24 in 2024. It’s the kind of statistic we like to see—but don’t get too comfortable. The feds still recorded shootings in 19 different states, ranging from open spaces to schools, government buildings, places of worship, and commercial zones.

So what happened?

According to the Bureau, the drop is real but still part of a larger trend that’s been brewing for decades. From 2020 to 2024, the FBI logged 223 active shooter events—up 70% from the previous five-year stretch (2015–2019).

While 2024 saw a dip, the long-term trajectory suggests these events are becoming more frequent, more complex, and more deadly over time.

That’s why the FBI continues to push training and preparedness through its Active Shooter Attack Prevention and Preparedness (ASAPP) program. Whether you’re law enforcement, a business owner, or a private citizen, they want you ready to move when seconds count.

But let’s be real—preparedness doesn’t just mean a training course. For law-abiding citizens, it means being armed, trained, and situationally aware. It means knowing your rights, knowing your weapon, and being ready to defend your life and the lives of others.

Because as much as the government wants to track data, the responsibility for staying alive often lands squarely on you.

Bottom line: we’ll take the drop in incidents—but we’re not dropping our guard. Stay armed, stay trained, and stay ready.
