CZ-USA is expanding two of their popular product lines with a new optics-ready Shadow 2 pistol and 16- and 20-gauge additions to their Redhead family of over-under shotguns.
The optics-ready Shadow 2 is the second new Shadow pistol for 2020. The Shadow 2 OR is a full-size, steel-framed double-action, single-action pistol with a removable rear sight plate that users can take off in order to mount a mini red dot optic.
The Shadow series is built for competition so it has a full-length single-slot accessory rail, an oversized and undercut trigger guard, a generous beavertail and slim machined aluminum grips. The pistol has aggressive checkering all around and a large extended magazine release.
One interesting touch is that the slide only has forward serrations. With the Shadow 2 OR CZ expects users to simply grab the slide by the optic or adjustable rear sight. The target rear sight is paired with a red fiber optic front sight.
Like other Shadow pistols the OR model is chambered for 9mm Luger and has a standard capacity of 19+1 rounds. The OR also comes with ambidextrous safety levers.
The Shadow 2 OR is a semi-custom pistol with a tuned action and Custom Shop hammer and the price reflects that. The MSRP is $1,549 putting it the same league as other similarly-featured factory competition handguns.
CZ is also adding two new shotguns to the Redhead series, a 16-gauge utility gun and a 20-gauge Redhead for shooting clays. Both are part of the Redhead Premier line-up using CZ’s one-piece CNC machined receivers.
With relatively few companies making 16-gauge shotguns this will be a welcome expansion to the Redhead series. By taking a utilitarian approach this shotgun is sure to appeal to a wide range of 16-gauge shooters.
The 16-gauge Redhead Premier has a 28-inch barrel chambered for 2-3/4-inch shot shells and comes with one fixed improved cylinder choke barrel and one fixed modified choke barrel. It comes withh a flat 8mm rib on top and basic front sight.
Like all Premier shotguns, it has Turkish walnut stocks, automatic ejectors, and a manual safety and barrel selector.
The 20-gauge Redhead Premier Target is geared for shooting sports and comes with five extended chokes ranging from cylinder bore through full. It is chambered for 3-inch shells and has a 30-inch barrel.

The 20-gauge Premier Target has a fancier Monte Carlo stock, target forend and a 10mm stepped mid rib sight setup.
Both find a middle ground between light and pointable but not too light to shoot comfortably for long stretches. The 20-gauge comes in at 7 pounds and the 16- at 8.
The 16-gauge Redhead is a little more basic and has a very approachable suggested price of $988. The 20-gauge Target is more expensive at $1,430 but both will be sold in stores and online for less.
