Catholic Cardinal Calls for Americans to Voluntarily Surrender 2A Rights

Last month, Cardinal Joseph Tobin, the Archbishop of Newark, wrote a letter that asked Americans to toss our Second Amendment rights aside and rally for peace.

He wrote, in part:

Let’s voluntarily set aside our rights in order to witness the truth that only peace, and never violence, is the way to build a free society that is lived concretely in our homes, our neighborhoods, our communities, our nation and our world.

But, is becoming less dangerous, less capable of defending ourselves, the right path to societal peace?

The Cardinal’s viewpoint is clear: peace can only be achieved through a united commitment to nonviolence. To build a society without violence, we must voluntarily disarm, respect each other’s differences, and listen with open hearts.

It’s a beautiful idea, but in practice, does it strip us of necessary safeguards against oppression and tyranny? And beyond that, could it leave us defenseless in the face of everyday violence, unable to protect ourselves and our loved ones from truly violent offenders?

Enter Dr. Jordan Peterson’s interpretation of “the meek shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). Peterson flips the script on the typical interpretation of “meek.”

SEE ALSO: Gov. Newsom Comes Clean with 28th Amendment Suggestion

Meek doesn’t mean weak or passive, according to Peterson. Rather, it describes those who are capable of force but choose to keep their weapons sheathed.

Watch this brief Youtube video to hear Peterson explain it:

So, the question becomes: Are we preserving peace by removing the capacity to wield force, or are we eroding our ability to protect ourselves and those we love?

The debate isn’t just about gun rights; it’s about balancing personal freedom with collective safety. It’s about maintaining the ability to protect ourselves while still fostering a society that’s safe and respectful of all its members.

Peterson’s stance implies a certain degree of responsibility and self-control: to be dangerous but not harmful.

Cardinal Tobin’s proposal is one of non-violence, urging us to be kind, understanding siblings of one human family.

In my opinion, I’m sure the Cardinal’s disarmament plea sounds noble to some. But in a world where people like Dahmer or Hitler exist, it’s not practical. Prayers won’t stop such villains. Good folks with the ability to fight back? That’s a different story.

What say you?

Thankfully I am Baptist and don’t have to listen to guys who run around in dresses and kiss rings and would rather be around men than women. Look up Luke 23 sell your cloak and buy a sword.

He should probably focus on getting the pedophiles out of the church before he wants weigh in on taking my rights away. Stay with what you know padre.

I think the Cardinal needs to keep his focus on important things like little boy’s asses. He clearly knows nothing of rights or peace.

  • Mark Adamski June 18, 2023, 1:41 pm

Drop dead fat boy. It’s idiots like you that caused me to turn my back on the Catholic Church.

    • Yamaholic June 19, 2023, 10:17 am

I’m with you there…I grew up Catholic and went to a Catholic private school (until I was old enough to make my own decisions at least) and although there’s so many good people associated with the church their insistence on trying to involve themselves in aspects of our lives where they have no business (among many other reasons) caused me to walk away as well…

    • Armed K of C June 19, 2023, 4:04 pm

Remember, my fellow Catholics, it’s not about the guy in the white or red suit, or the guy behind the pulpit, or the guy at the Vatican, heretical priests like Pfleger, or anyone else. Except that it is about the guy in the tabernacle: Jesus.
One should not loose sight of what is really important due to all of the noise. Jesus has had bumbling, incompetent, and even evil bishops, priests and other officials for the entire life of the Church, but that doesn’t diminish the central core of the Church, which is Jesus himself.

  • Jay stonebriar June 17, 2023, 10:42 pm

I mean, Catholic Cardinals have had really good judgement when dealing with controversial issues within the Church, so we should probably let them influence other issues of society.

I am a Roman Catholic, the Cardinal should check our Lords statement in case he missed it. It goes” render to Caesar the things that are Caesar,s and to God the things that are Gods” unquote .It,s none of the Cardinals business to even comment on the anything not related to religion. Comment on the blacks killing blacks at a record number. Or the senseless rioting and looting. Second right amendment our right,as is freedom of religion. Where would our country be if not for men taking up fire arms to ensure our liberty.
My last comment. Does the Cardinal have armed security,or the Pope.

  • WyoShooter June 17, 2023, 11:38 am

If the self-righteous Cardinal wants to give up the most effective way to protect himself from violence and continue to be a urine-soaked bullet sponge, then so be it. It is none of his business or concern how I defend myself.

  • C. Pate June 17, 2023, 11:04 am

  • al capone June 17, 2023, 12:29 am

  • Robert Jones June 16, 2023, 11:15 pm

Yes! We’ll give them up, when the Catholic Church punishes all the pedophiles that currently and previously held positions of trust and authority. And have not been punished yet. So in other words, on about the 5th of NEVER.

  • Gus June 16, 2023, 9:05 pm

I think the Cardinal has two parts of his anatomy connected. Get real Padre. If no 2A rights it will be total chaos!!

  • Ralph June 16, 2023, 7:26 pm

The good cardinal would better use his time molesting little boys.

  • Jonah Hamilton June 16, 2023, 6:34 pm

So this cardinal believes we should all ‘turn the other cheek’ and become endless victims? I don’t think so! I wonder what all those abused little boys think about the wisdom of the catholic priests?

  • Fubar June 16, 2023, 4:41 pm

To Cardinal Tobin: “Democrat Gun control is defined as: A Liberal belief that people who are willing to ignore laws against rape, torture, kidnapping, theft, and murder will MAGICALLY obey a law which prohibits them from owning a firearm.” Please keep in mind Our US Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment, very clearly for the purpose of arming the citizenry as a means to confront and halt the usurpation of power by corrupt government that has become weaponized against the People. For those that say that’ll never happen:
    Gun Control Hall of Fame!

Stalin: Took guns away from his citizens in 1929 then murdered 20 million of them once defenseless.
Mao: Took guns away from his citizens in 1935 then murdered 20 million of them once defenseless.
Hitler: Took guns away from his citizens in 1938 then murdered 13 million of them once defenseless.
Pot: Took guns away from his citizens in 1956 then murdered 2 million of them once defenseless.
Note: The government during Mao’s rule was responsible for vast numbers of deaths with estimates ranging from 40 to 80 million victims through starvation & persecution from his failed Agricultural /Industrialization Plan. In my post I am referring to direct murders as a result of Political non-conformity!

Historic Fact: Governments in total have disarmed and executed over 262 million of their own people in the 20th Century. So, please tell me again why Governments should be the only ones with guns?

  • inhs June 16, 2023, 4:39 pm

The founding fathers and others that drafted the Constitution and wrote about self defense knew very well what religion could do when it became part of the government. King James II disarmed all Protestants and the Protestants did the same do Catholics after the power shifted to Protestants.

  • Oldwestman June 16, 2023, 3:50 pm

Hey Padre you don’t live on the streets and in the homes in dangerous neighborhoods, and we don’t have 24 hour guards for protection like you do, so when some one breaks into my house or confronts me on the street with a weapon and I fear for my life I want the means to defend myself and my family at hand, because you can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which gets filled the first if you take my meaning.

  • David A Welsh June 16, 2023, 3:47 pm

This Catholic says his nose needs to be rubbed in Stalin’s Soviet Union, Mao’s China, Hitler’s Germany. He needs to worry about saving souls and to stay in his lane.

  • geoff miller June 16, 2023, 3:16 pm

When they stop molesting children !!! ” Remove the sty from thine own eye.” first….The church has paid out more money in child molestation cases than any other organization has ever paid out to compensate for guilt in all of recorded history !!!!!

  • BE Davis Brown June 16, 2023, 2:56 pm

He fears for his associates and maybe himself from those sexualy abused alter boys from the past that have decided on some payback. What other reasonable explanation could there be?

  • Albert Laudel June 16, 2023, 2:53 pm

I’m Catholic. I know of Catholics and Jews for guns. They do not think like the good Cardinal!

  • Nick June 16, 2023, 2:51 pm

A cardinal that must not have heard about the crusades.
The only reason that we are still citizens is the 2nd Amendment. There are between 450 and 500 million firearms in the US. Last year there was around 26 thousand homicides. Of those 26k, 71% or around 18.5k are criminal on criminal deaths, gangs killing off each other. That means that if a separate firearm was used in the deaths of innocent people that accounts for around .0000018% of firearms. That’s about 10k less than the number of priests didling kids.
More people are beat to death with bare fists each year then killed with a firearm.

    • AK June 16, 2023, 4:56 pm

Which is about 1/10th the number of Reformtard parsters diddling kids.

And the Crusades, with the exception of the bad end of the 4th, were about liberating the Holy Land from radical Islam. Y’know….your and Joe Biden’s buddies, the Taliban.

      Otherwise we agree.

  • Shrugger June 16, 2023, 2:44 pm

  • Lee Jones June 16, 2023, 2:34 pm

Disarm the Swiss Guard at the Vatican and see how that works first.

  • edgy June 16, 2023, 2:22 pm

That Fat priest’s comments should not even printed. Some his followers think he has a point .
When he is the one who forgives criminals for their crimes by the wave of his hand ! Then the Criminals go back on the street and do the crimes all over again! Mafia is a good example of this! Criminals don’t care what the law is ,that’s why they are called CRIMINALS!
WHEN Cain killed Able with a rock ,God did not confiscate all the rocks .God blamed Cain!

  • Kbc.kurt June 16, 2023, 2:19 pm

Lol. Trust in God. Not the Pharisees of today.
It’s not amazing that a person which does not create its own income, hunts, forages, or even goes to market, which belongs to the second oldest profession, a socialist profession at that, asks you to do something he has never understood or needed to survive. AMAZING. (Ref; oldest profession is Prostitution, I think it’s a neck and neck contest for number one)

  • JJ Karn June 16, 2023, 2:13 pm

Somehow, the requests of an organization whose history of oppression has been exceeded only by Nazi Germany and by Communism, and who, in more recent history, protects the pedophiles within its own ranks rings hollow with me.

  • jackkade June 16, 2023, 2:12 pm

After looking at this sleeze-ball, my first thought is just how many children has he molested.

  • Robert Floyd June 16, 2023, 2:09 pm

Screw that asshole. Next thing they (catholic church) will want is your gold fillings out of your dead mouth.

    • AK June 16, 2023, 4:57 pm

The level of sanitizing that would require for yours exceeds the Sun’s core temp.

  • JJ Karn June 16, 2023, 2:07 pm

According to the author, ” it’s about balancing personal freedom with collective safety. ”
No, it is not. The United States is not a collectivist society like China or North Korea. Rights are not subject to popularity, the will of the majority, or the needs of society. As William Pitt, the Younger, said, “Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.”

  • PJMIGALE June 16, 2023, 1:46 pm

The fascistic and communistic “priests” that have infiltrated the Catholic Church all the way up to Pope Francis, they sit on their thrones, in their robes, surrounded by Swiss Guard mercenaries, armed to protect them but they want their parishioners to give up their inalienable right to protect their families and themselves form the out of control evil doing criminals. This guy should be excommunicated from the church.

    • edgy June 16, 2023, 2:23 pm

      Correct!

    • inhs June 16, 2023, 4:26 pm

Very similar to the Pharisees 2000+ years ago.

  • Dave June 16, 2023, 1:44 pm

Sorry Cardinal , Not happening. Why don’t you call the Pope and tell him to get rid of all Vatican security forces. After all, we are all loving creature and the Vatican should lead by example. Let me know how that plays out for you.

  • C.Pate June 16, 2023, 1:41 pm

    • Rouge1 June 16, 2023, 1:51 pm

Where is this separation of church and state in the constitution that you are talking about?

  • C.Pate June 16, 2023, 1:35 pm

I believe even less in any thing the Catholic church has to say and I want to tell you there wasn’t much there anyway.I think all those child molesting Mormons of the pope should publicly confess and just go away .Merry met

  • J R G June 16, 2023, 1:31 pm

I’ m catholic I have no use for the hierarchy of the church. We have useless president glorifies abortions. Pushes that typeof agenda. He should be excommunicated from the Catholic church from receiving the sacraments if they have the guts. My answerer to that cardinal FU u can send it to him if you like The pope is included

  • Chuck June 16, 2023, 1:22 pm

Peaceful like when the Spaniards destroy the Aztec, Mayan and Inca civilization and raped, pillaged and plundered and sent shiploads of stolen gold back to Spain and Rome? The cardinal lives behind a wall and is protected. No thanks.

    • AK June 16, 2023, 4:59 pm

  • Al Escobar June 16, 2023, 1:20 pm

I got two 9mm pistols, plenty of ammo and am buying more guns and bullets. I do not want to talk to violent blacks, nor homosexuals nor transgenders…

  • Andy June 16, 2023, 12:32 pm

As a faithful Catholic I completely disagree with Multiple points of this. First a Cardinal has no duty to involve himself in politics of any kind so commenting on anything involving the constitution or policies decided by politicians and the people is not within his perview. Secondly CCC 2263-2265 specifically talk about self defense, even mentioning defense of oneself or others not only being a right but also a grave duty for those who are responsible for the lives of others (CCC 2265).
I understand the call for peace but peace does not require the relinquishment of one’s right to defend themselves if anything peace requires it because as long as there is evil there can be no peace.

  • l1254 June 16, 2023, 12:32 pm

One mortal mans opinion just because he is a cardinal his opinion carry’s no more weight than anyone else! And How does he plan on getting criminals to disarm ? Im sure the next thing that will come out of his mouth is how we should all accept LGBTQQIP2SA as normal?

  • Fred Csiky June 16, 2023, 12:23 pm

  • Walleye June 16, 2023, 12:08 pm

Perhaps Cardinal Tobin should demand the Vatican give up it’s armed Swiss guards, and report back how well it worked.

  • Tommy Barrios June 16, 2023, 12:00 pm

Being a Catholic whose uncle was a Monsignor in the Catholic Church and having been in the seminary myself, I wanted to respond to the Cardinal in the most vile, vicious way I could think of to express my displeasure with his asinine ignorance and stupidity! Maybe he should look back to the Papal States and remiss about how many were murdered under the authority and orders of a Pope!
That said, I am also greatly distressed at the number of idiots and morons who are calling out the church as a group for child abuse! This shows the ignorance and stupidity of those that listen to the Communist Progressive Liberal Moron Media whenever it suits them, knowing full well that they exaggerate and outright lie! The majority of the priests in the Catholic Church or not abusing children, so shut up with that garbage!! Every religion or religious persuasion has its share of pedophiles and homosexual, but the moron media loves to focus mostly on the Catholic Church! As Jesus said, Satan will endeavor to sift you like wheat!

  • wizkid June 16, 2023, 11:55 am

  • bob h June 16, 2023, 11:49 am

Great idea, Cardinal. Lets also give up our right to practice the religion of our choice too. After all, violence is committed everyday by people in the name of religion whether they are Christian anti-abortion fanatics or radical Islamists and what about giving up our right to assemble? If groups larger than three persons could be disbanded by the authorities surely that would put an end to any mob violence. Lets give up freedom of speech too because words can make people angry enough to do terrible things.

  • N6JSX June 16, 2023, 11:43 am

Here is typical ‘splashier’, he wants notoriety for the next conclave. He has little understanding of the real world and less insight into the criminal mind. But HARK, peace will concur all a faux euphoria.

Or he is a Kool-Aid drinker of the communist manifesto and is willing to lead his flock into servitude to a benevolent dictatorship (that is NOT catholic nor religious). BTW, just how did the Vatican survive Italy’s Duce/NAZI’s? Who got sold out?

Here is another reason the catholic church membership is in serious decline there leaders are pompous, arrogant, idiots that do not know their few minions but willing to jeopardize their safety. Vietnam killed my religion.

  • Steve Richards June 16, 2023, 11:41 am

  • michael jaral June 16, 2023, 10:58 am

What I think is that the Cardinal should STAY out of American politics. It is not the adult legal American citizen causing all these shooting. He should concentrate on the family and how the use of a youth can get his hands on a gun. Family and family teachings are lacking. Let him direct his attentions to that problem.

  • John sekulich June 16, 2023, 10:53 am

  • Dutch June 16, 2023, 10:48 am

The cardinal lives in his own little secluded, protected world and doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about. How would he like it if I infringed on his right to address the masses, or to pray, or to live off the people through the church? He needs to keep his mouth shut when he knows not what he’s saying, but I haven’t met a priest yet that could do that. They love to hear the sound of their own voice.

  • Jim June 16, 2023, 10:23 am

The 2A gave us the best tool to defend ourselves. Without it, we have picks, shovels, and frying pans.

There is not now, nor has there ever been, any nation that did not experience violence.
I realize the Cardinal wants peace. However, there has never been a time in history when total peace was achieved. Violence is a critical part of nature. It is, unfortunately, a critical part of humankind. Even the defense of oneself is violent. If I have to partake in violence, I want the best tool available for my defense.

    • James Guthrie June 16, 2023, 10:57 am

I think Catholic Churches need to clean up their own act and bring justice for the child abused children and the victims.

No Freedom to worship. It may be amended if our 2d Amendment is changed or lost completely.

  • Let's go Brandon, FJB June 16, 2023, 10:19 am

Maybe that cardinal should stop worrying about law abiding citizens and worry more about the child diddling that goes on in the Catholic churches.

  • Shawn June 16, 2023, 10:12 am

Hey Cardinal Tobin, you have some nerve, why don’t you and your ilk stick to stopping pedophiles in your church leadership, like you, before you tell other people how to live. The Catholic Church has murdered more humans throughout history than all the gun owners in America put together!!!!!! You are a truly evil, terrifying, demon that needs to disarm the world so you can dictate how everyone else must live. Please return to hell from whence you came!!!!!

  • K. R. V. June 16, 2023, 10:00 am

Sure cardinal , why don’t you go down to Venezuela and help them find peace!!
Hate to point it out but religion and churches have been the cause/excuse for countless wars and atrocities for millennia so sorry cardinal you don’t have anything to back you up when it comes to churches/religion and peace, actually seems to be the opposite.

  • Rocky Balboa Jr June 16, 2023, 9:46 am

The Cardinal should have requested that evil doers repent and stop obtaining firearms illegally and then using them in felonious acts. Then his message would have been appropriate.

Telling Americans to give up their Constitutional right to bear arms is totally inappropriate and also out of the Cardinal’s swim lane. But what can we expect with a NWO Pope who told us to take the Covid Jab regardless of its aborted fetal tissue contents. Sad state of affairs when a leading representative of “Christianity” takes these kinds of actions.

  • ejharbet June 16, 2023, 9:41 am

this coming from a church who tortured and burned people who didn’t worship them and their religion. no torquemada I don’t think I’ll give up my weapons today.

Do you think criminals will give up their guns???

Do you think giving up our guns will deter another country from invading us?

  • jake June 16, 2023, 9:24 am

I think that’s real hypocritical. The pope and the cardinals have armed security. Christ and his apostles carried swords, they weren’t defenseless. When they came for Jesus, Peter drew his sword and cut off the ear of one person.
My gun is my sword, I’m not giving it up for a clergyman or a politician, get over it. I don’t intend to be defenseless, ever.
People who give up security for peace will have neither.

  • Armed K of C June 16, 2023, 9:10 am

What say I? As a practicing and (hopefully) devout Roman Catholic, I say no.
Our 2A is simply a recognition of humans’ natural rights, which are given by God, and acknowledged in the Bill of Rights, which does not grant these pre-existing rights, but binds the government from infringing upon them.
So 2A: God given, absolute, non-negotiable. Period. Don’t like it? Tough shit.
Besides, Cardinal Tobin should withhold his recommendation until the Vatican sends the Swiss Guard home, and all government officials shed their paid armed security forces. Then, and only then, can he speak without hypocrisy.

    Luke 22:36

I listen to Jesus; not some appointed cardinal! As a human being he is fallible; Jesus is not!

  • mikethewookiee77 June 16, 2023, 8:50 am

Just ask Jews in in Germany in the late 1930s if it’s ok to give up your rights for the sake of peace. Now ask the survivors in the 1940s if it was still ok? Why should anyone give up their higher ideals of civility to appease the uncivilized barbarians? Right to bare arms is not a right to irresponsible use of a weapon. A civilized society understands that firearms, like knives, bows, and dynamite are all tools and need to be used correctly and responsibly.

Ya, how’d that go for all those “Non-Catholic” Christians called by various names but were Protestants back in the “Dark Ages”? The Roman Catholic Church hounded them to slaughter them – millions of them. That was the reason for settling America, or have you forgotten?…

    • Armed K of C June 16, 2023, 9:13 am

Um, there was equal opportunity persecution for religious and other reasons that drove emigration to America. Maryland was predominantly populated by Catholics, and Irish immigrants were driven by the persecution of the protestant English government/king, just to cite a few examples

      • AK June 16, 2023, 10:45 am

People accused of capital offenses by civil courts in Catholic Countries, would often blaspheme to get themselves in front of ecclesiastical courts, which were much more lenient. Lots of Reformistas here who bought into the Limey-invented “Black Legend.”
Y’know, those Limeys who like to slap people in jail for noting radical Muslims commit crimes at a far greater clip then native Brits, or Facebook posts not glowingly positive about the Vax, or (my fave) 2 years in prison for a father and son who had a Smith and Wesson #2 .22 short revolver dating from the 1860’s, rusting in a barn.
Whose state religion was founded by a guy who wanted to doink women other than his wife, and murdered two of them.

The bible is full of the righteous doing battle will evil leaders and oppressors. The message to live in a meek manner is one thing but to stand by while evil overruns the meek is quite another. I reject the Cardinal’s notion for peace. President had the right formula for peace through strength. We get there through proper leadership; which is absent today.

  • richard sutton June 16, 2023, 8:35 am

the phrase ‘the meek shall inherit the earth”, had it not been for the white americans going ashore at d day, this cardinal would have gotten part of his wish, no 2A, slavery and genocide would fill the gap.

    I’m all for equality.

    • D.J. June 16, 2023, 10:03 am

I’ve added to the end of the saying , though informally ,
“ God created man , Sam Colt made them equal .
With the aid of John Browning , some became superior . “

  • R June 16, 2023, 8:14 am

Would be nice if Cardinal Tobin would address all the violence against unborn children conducted in America, and around the world.

  • W. Kotila June 16, 2023, 8:12 am

After the Pope took it upon himself to decide that Jesus errored when He gave us the Lord’s Prayer and change it, it’s little surprise that some Catholic Cardinal would feel justified in proposing to change our Bill of Rights. Another reason for the separation of church and state.

  • Thomas McGill June 16, 2023, 8:09 am

I think that the cardinal and anyone else that thinks this way need to take a course on world history since creation!! Luckily for the people of the United States, we have a God given right to protect ourselves! Shall not be infringed!!!

  • Pat Harmon June 16, 2023, 7:39 am

How about he police his own people from molesting young kids first. He needs to address issues they have before judging others. No wonder the churches are losing participants..

  • packrat June 16, 2023, 7:29 am

The Cardinal needs to be reminded that Christ’s disciples carried swords for protection. Israel of that time was a dangerous place. (IE Parable of the Good Samaritan) Peter did not cut off the servant’s ear with a butter knife, to be sure.

  • Kent San June 16, 2023, 7:14 am

I would think he’d wish to address the rampant molestation of children by priests first.

  • Jeremy Wray June 16, 2023, 7:14 am

So the Cardinal wants use to give up our guns. Why doesn’t he give up idolatry worshipping statues of Mary and the eucharist that they take at communion. Before you try to take the splinter out of your brothers eye, first you must take the log out of your own.

    • Armed K of C June 16, 2023, 9:20 am

Catholics do not worship Mary or any other saint depicted in sculpture or other art. The heresy of iconoclasm was settled more than 1000 years ago, and it is recognized that art is simply scripture rendered in means other than writing. Catholics do, however believe that the Holy Eucharist (communion) is the literal body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. Why? Because Jesus said so.

    • Kane June 16, 2023, 10:30 am

Get this cardinal removed. He doesn’t understand America and is naive. NEVER give up your 2A rights. How did we win against the tyranny of Axis nations in WW2? Was it through violence?…. yes. The new enemies of America are mostly within our borders. But pray for America to become America again.

A most dangerous cabale lead the US today. Who in the Catholic Church has spoken out? Many Catholics believe that reconcilliation between the Orthodox Churches and the Catholic Church was essential to the future of mankind. That all seems lost now.

Retired US Army General Flynn (former highly respected National Security Advisor), Manifort and others were trying to reverse the death tango that the Barry Soetoro Administration has ignited. Soetoro called Flynn the most dangerous man in the US. Soetoro lied again and the deep state set out to destroy this patriotic and highly decoraed American.

So what has the Pope done? He fell for an old trick. The Pope met with the fake Ukrainian, Volo Zelenskyyy, shook the hand of a man who persecutes the Orthodox Church in The Ukraine. The photo op goes out on the wires and it looks like the Pope approves of Zelenskyyys war crimes against the Orthodox Church.

The cabal of Soros, Zelenskyyy, Blinken, Soetoro et cetera are the real danger and the Cardinal and the Pope are so easily duped.

He says he wants us to “rally for peace”. Sure! I’m all for that. But it will be done WITH my firearms firmly in my possession. Once a society gives up their means to protect themselves and then decides to rally for peace, that rally is usually crushed by the oppressive and tyrannical government that they surrendered their guns to…

  • Lee Enfield June 14, 2023, 11:02 pm

This guy’s reality check has bounced. In a perfect world he may be right, but we do not live in a perfect world. The best way to prevent violence is to be prepared to inflict violence on those who would do you harm. A wise man once said “We sleep peacefully in our beds at night because rough men stand ready in the dark to inflict violence on those who would do us harm.” We have seen the results of defunding the police and prosecutors who refuse to pursue violent criminals. Enough is enough. It is time to take back our safety and our freedom.

  • Jons_On June 14, 2023, 10:48 pm

This cardinal is either a complete total moron or a communist. If the citizens of this country put down their guns the government would swoop in and crush us. All of us. Freedom would then be a thing of the past. So cardinal you can go f#$% yourself, idiot.

  • J Lucas June 14, 2023, 6:41 pm

The catholic church has a long history of violence. Murdering people who have a different viewpoint or faith. Fomenting wars. Let them give up their vast wealth hidden away in the vatican to the poor and hungry. That would solve many much human suffering. Hey cardinal, how about you lead by example? Go on a diet. You look morbidly obese. Share your food with the hungry in newark.

    • AK June 16, 2023, 10:52 am

I’m sure you keep slim on a diet of Sam’s Club pinto beans and unfiltered river water.

  • MARC MILLER June 14, 2023, 4:36 pm

The Cardinal doesn’t have it quite right. Evil is Evil. The word Jesus actually used was means “a man who owns a sword, knows how to use it, and keeps it in its sheath”. The meek will inherit bondage. But the peaceful warrior will win the day.

  • Richard Burton Jr June 14, 2023, 4:29 pm

    Hey Cardinal,
Why don’t you start with the Catholic Cardinals and preacher’s that were murdered by the Naxi’s and all the other Biblical folks including the Nun’s which were raped by the Nazi’s (YES, My grandfahter met a few during the war) and more recently Socialist government type’s AND WHEN YOU HAVE CONVERTED THEM to act like a human, you come back and talk to me.
THEN AGAIN, Start by having The Pope’s personal bodyguards give up thier gun’s first !
Respectfully, A person who heard all the stories never told about the churches preachers and nun’s of the atrocities carried out by not only the Nazi’s but those who sympathised with them.

  • Jimmy Hamilton June 14, 2023, 3:59 pm

The cardinal needs to worry about the Pope and we’ll continue to keep our rights

  • Bruce Stanton June 14, 2023, 3:17 pm

Does this mean the Pope will disband and/or disarm his Swiss Guard?

  • Mike. S June 14, 2023, 12:48 pm

I don’t care if he’s a Cardinal, the Pope or any other anti-2A nut. It’s the weak, near sighted people, that can’t or won’t see the truth about the world of crime and totalitarian governments. The criminals and governments will never give up any weapons or control they have, crimes and deaths will grow exponentially ! Which in turn, will cut back on their church donations in the same amount, meaning their religious cartel bank roll will shrink, along with their followers that use to donate, because they’ll be afraid to go to church, have no money or be dead. But what the hell, the church approves abortions, so why shouldn’t they approve killing everyone else that is innocent, by asking them to give up their 2A rights. Not me, I’m keeping mine !

P.S. I am catholic, by birth. I’m not a hater, just my opinion and the way I see things.

  • William Jones June 14, 2023, 12:38 pm

The blood of someone that dies because they surrender their firearm, will be on this cardinal’s hands. I truly hope he’s ready for the repercussions for such a Stupid suggestion. The Bible does say the meek shall inherit the earth, but a dead meek person will only inherit the earth where they are buried. Like I heard all my life “Educated, but No Common Sense!!!” My uncle served in WWII and was a sniper he was Catholic but had no qualms about protecting himself and his fellow soldiers, and he was one of meekest men I have ever known. God rest his soul ✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸

  • GomeznSA June 14, 2023, 12:23 pm

Ya gotta wonder just what the ‘good’ cardinal would do if he encountered someone raping one of the nuns under his regime? As many times as the catholic hierarchy has turned a blind eye to ‘excesses’ on the part of their priests, I wouldn’t count on him to save her. Harry Callahan had the proper solution.

  • Ron Mitchell June 14, 2023, 11:53 am

Every family in the Old Testament was armed – plus, during New Testament times, every family in the bronze age that wanted to survive long enough to reproduce and prosper – and not be fed to the Roman lions. And how about that sling shot of David’s? It’s a long-standing, historical, natural, God-given human right / instinct to bear arms and be ever prepared for defense. Anything less was and is totally irresponsible.

  • Jim Haws June 14, 2023, 11:44 am

This coming from a person surrounded by armed guards
( if he lives in the Vatican).
I don’t think criminals and those possessing illegal guns are going to line up to turn them in. What kind of fantasy land is he living in?

    • GomeznSA June 14, 2023, 12:26 pm

Jim – since he apparently lives in jersey he likely doesn’t have Swiss guards but most likely has a personal protective detail.

      • Joe schmoe June 14, 2023, 1:22 pm

I know the Cardinal from his time in Indianapolis. He is a good man and I understand his plea. However, I don’t agree with it.
He doesn’t have a “protective detail”, nor does he want one. He is quite formidable at 6’3″, 300lbs and routinely works out. (I saw him bench 300lbs in 2015.) I’m sure he made quite the lineman in his day.
Regardless, we all want peace in our neighborhoods… “Si vis pacem, para bellum.”

        • Kane June 14, 2023, 1:48 pm

So in the time you knew him in Indianapolis, what worth while stands did he support?

I am Catholic, attend Church regularly and people like me want to see the Clergy take worthwhile stands. So many of the Clergy have hurt the most vunerable of the flock in the worst way.

It seems that all the Clergy that can be seen now are the ones who support left-wing stands and strut around like Cock Robin. Scarce funds have been sent to poor causes and the tax exempt status put at risk. It’s embarassing.

The Cardinal forgets that GOD gave us inalienable rights; life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and the right to defend ourselves. I highlight and underscore defend ourselves and our families. Our founders understood this and even in the first skirmish of our independence an order was given to not fire first.

  • LMB June 14, 2023, 10:59 am

Ben Franklin said it best! It goes something like this: Those who are willing to give up a little liberty for safety deserves neither!!!
And just a sidebar to the Bishop’s health. He should probably go on a diet and share more of the quantity of food he’s consuming with his flock! And keep his pie hole shut about our GOD GIVEN RIGHTS!!
