Sabatti is a new brand to me, though it is far from new to firearms. They have been in the gun business for 400 years, an unbroken line of smiths from father to son, with no interruptions. That is a pretty big deal considering most of us, me included, couldn’t tell you how exactly our ancestors arrived on the continent.

Published: February 23, 2018 { 21 comments }MilSurp: British Infantry Weapons of World War II: The Tools Tommies Used to Beat Back the Bosche
Published: February 21, 2018 { 72 comments }On the night of June 5th, 1944, a force of 181 men commanded by Major John Howard lifted off from RAF Tarant Rushton aboard six Horsa gliders. Their force consisted of a reinforced company from the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry along with twenty sappers drawn from the Royal Engineers. Their objective was to seize the bridge over the Caen Canal and subsequently secure the eastern flank of the Allied landings at Sword beach. Theirs was arguably the most critical piece in the entire D-Day invasion.
Remington 870 DM Magpul & 700 Magpul v. Nevada Coyotes — Full Review
Published: February 21, 2018 { 0 comments }There’s more open country and public land within driving distance of Ely, Nevada, than the naked eye can take in. From rolling hills and a sea of endless cedars to the vast horizons of sage flats, it’s perfect country for coyotes. It was also perfect for putting two of Remington’s newest firearms to the ultimate predator hunting test. On a two-day hunt, we’d be using two modern takes on Remington classics—the 870 DM Magpul & the Model 700 Magpul.

Accurate, Modular, Lightweight Bolt-Action: The Q Fix — Full Review
Published: February 21, 2018 { 1 comment }I first saw the Q LLC “Fix” rifle at the 2017 SHOT show. It was a unique design that immediately grabbed my attention. A bolt action rifle that challenged the carbon fiber stocked mountain rifles in weight but also had characteristics of the chassis style precision guns that were taking the market by storm. Q [...]
Showdown: Pocket Rocket v. PMR30 — Full Review
Published: February 21, 2018 { 36 comments }Why do we die-hard gun nerds do what we do? Sure, we pontificate about self-defense applications, civil unrest, and the pending end of the world. But what really is it that drives this preoccupation we all seem to have with cool dangerous toys that are sleek, black, and oily? I would assert that despite our [...]
SIG Sibling Showdown: The MCX Rattler versus MPX Death Match — Full Review
Published: February 20, 2018 { 3 comments }I live half an hour outside of town on my modest rural farm. I count the local Sheriff and his deputies among my dearest friends, but even in a perfect world it will still take them at least a quarter hour to get to my place from a standing start. I know of three of my immediate neighbors who have been the victims of home invasions in the past five years, two of which occurred while the homes were occupied. In one case the oldest family member present at the time was twelve. Defending yourself against an armed threat in your home is no baseless exercise.
The Winchester Model 70 in .338 Winchester Magnum — A Classic Combination
Published: February 18, 2018 { 19 comments }Winchester’s marketing slogan was quite a bold statement, but one that was not braggadocio. When the Model 70 was introduced – way back in 1936 – it represented what I consider to be the ultimate culmination of the American bolt-action hunting rifle. It had all of the necessary appointments: a strong action – closely related to the Mauser Gewehr 98 – with a reliable extractor, capable of handling the highest of cartridge pressures, a well-fitting stock, an excellent trigger and a three-position safety which would (eventually) work perfectly with a rifle scope.

Going the Distance: Mossberg MVP Precision in .224 Valkyrie/6.5 CM — SHOT Show 2018
Published: February 13, 2018 { 6 comments }When we think of the name Mossberg, most of us instantly envision a shotgun. They have been the leader in American shotguns for decades, and recently have been crushing it out of the park with new products like the 590 magazine-fed and the Shockwave. But they are also a powerhouse in rifles. And this year they are stepping into the precision game, with the Mossberg MVP Precision.
