A lumen has a technical definition, but generally speaking, it’s about as bright as a single candle. More importantly for this discussion, a lumen measures the total energy output of a light without regard for beam angle.

The rifle optics game has been changing a lot as of late, one might even say turning on its head.

Vortex Optics just announced their all-new Defender-CCW™ red dot pistol sight. This optic is designed to be sturdy and portable for everyday use while boasting incredible functionability.

Unlike other rechargeable lights with built-in batteries, I am still able to swap batteries if I want. With a width of just under 1.25 inches. of course I wanted to give this a try.

The Swampfox Trihawk is perfect for a variety of tasks. It can be a tactical optic, a hunting optic, or something that helps you show off to your in-laws. Swampfox built it to last with an IPX7 rating and the ability to resist 800Gs of recoil.

For this test and evaluation, I mounted the TH50C to my Sig Cross bolt action rifle.

The 34mm tube and 50mm objective provide great light transmission which makes the most of available light at dusk or dawn.

Thankfully for all the buddies on a budget, the AGM Rattler has a bit more of an affordable price than your average thermal scope.

While available in both MOA and MRAD variants, I opted to test the MRAD version of the Strike Eagle 3-18. I think Vortex has another hit on its hands.
