Overview
Kel-Tec made a huge splash a few years ago with the SHOT Show introduction of the KSG, a bullpup shotgun with dual magazine tubes and an outstanding 13-round capacity. Its popularity lead to countless other bullpup-style shotguns.
Often imitated but never duplicated, I think we all wondered how Kel-Tec could possibly top that one. Well, now we have an answer. Enter the updated pump-action KSG-25.
The 25 in KSG-25 is due to the fact that it holds 25 rounds of 12 gauge. Full-size shells. An entire box. And if you load up with Augula Mini Shells, you get a capacity of 40+1. This is pretty insane to contemplate, no matter the size of the gun.
The KSG-25 achieves this capacity by matching its 30-inch barrel with its two full-length magazine tubes. Thanks to the bullpup action its still a relatively compact package overall. The whole thing measures in at only 38 inches long — an overall length within an inch of a Remington 870 with an 18-inch barrel.
Being a bullpup, the KSG-25 is about the same overall length as a standard defensive shotgun.
It comes with Magpul sights and forward pistol grip.

Impressions
It would be easy to dismiss this gun as novelty. I’m not even much of a shotgun guy, so I wanted to hate it. But when you pick it up and really consider the way it handles, it is a pretty badass piece of gear. Pretty much ends my argument against shotguns as being to slow to reload in a home defense gun.
If you can’t solve it with 41 rounds of buckshot, you probably need something belt fed and friends. This thing is like a hand held Claymore. The Kel-Tec fans are going to love it, the haters are going to tell us it’s impractical, and Kel-Tec’s competition in the shotgun industry is going to try and copy it as fast as they can. Another big innovation from Kel Tec, this one is sure to be a hit.
Pricing and Availability
As far as pump-action shotguns go the suggested retail price is above-average at $1,400. But that won’t stop anyone from buying this over-the-top bullpup shotgun.
Like the rest of Kel-Tec’s halo products pricing and availability is sure to be all over the map. If you want one and have the money, buy it before someone else does, even if it’s listing at full price. Because it will sell out and fast.

Very poor writing here, using the word “countless” to quantify something the can easily be counted. I’ve researched online, and found only 3 other manufacturers in addition to Keltec, offering a bullpup shotty. So where are these COUNTLESS bullpup shotguns?
Couple of problems with this article. First, the company who makes the 1-3/4″ shells is Aguila, Not whatever word that was you typed. Second, those shells pack an astounding 5/8 oz load, which is half way between a standard 3/4 oz 28 ga load and a 1/2 oz .410 bore load. And they suck, really badly. On top of that, they do NOT feed properly, because they over-run the mag catch and it releases two shells from the magazine because the shell stop can’t rebound quick enough to catch the base of the second shell.
Finally, is everyone ignoring that the KSG was an unadulterated P.O.S. for the first few years they made it? I owned one and sold these, and none of them worked correctly, and to add insult to injury, you couldn’t get them. A repair I sent in took OVER 1 year. I cannot imagine the feed problems this thing is going to have with a pair of 34″ magazine springs after a little compression from use. Finally, having that many shells hung forward of your front hand will make that gun balance and handle like crap. Finally…really? A WIN Choke? The shortest, crappiest old-school choke made? There are 20 different choke patterns you could have used including the Beretta/Benelli choke that are much superior. (anyone can use anyone else’s choke design–just ask Briley Mfg) If you are seeing this gun and have a woody, do yourself a favor and get yourself a Benelli with a 26 round X-Rail rotary magazine conversion…100% reliable and on a semi-auto gun.
Could not agree more! We “use” this gun in patrol cruisers……….never leaves the car. Every single time it has seen the range it has jammed and has twice simply broken. A total design-flawed P.O.S. suitable for nothing more than a boat anchor.

Why… Why… Why did you put a switch in your new KSG-25 pump that you
must actuate to fire the second half of the rounds. Why not just enable
the shotgun to fire all rounds that are in the gun in one go?

Cool concept, but KelTec needs to concentrate on PRODUCTION of the products they Already have!!! I’ve been waiting for a CMR 30 for two years, and they get sold out before they are out to the LGS!! And they are totally too expensive once they get to the public!!
Now they have another concept that nobody will be able to buy, and production of their other products will suffer even more!!!
Problems with Taurus. Free lifetime warranty ain’t exactly free. Thein semi- autos are mediocre at best. But my Raging Bull 44 mag has been a piece of art since I got it 7 years ago or so. Ruger, I sent a 10/22 in because every time it fired you had to pusy trigger forward for it to shoot again. Sent base gun to Ruger. They had it for over a month,sent it back ,no differencs. Had all this great stuff to add on like fast aquisition sights, swinging stock and many 30 rd mags. Now it just sits in safe.
Could be, and probably is…. that with the Ruger 10/22, if you’re using an aftermarket mag, it is hit and miss depending on the specific rifle. I own (5) 10/22 rifles, some mags work flawlessly in a certain setup, but will hardly function at all in others.

I think I’ve figured Kel-Tec out: the whole point is, George Kellgren is just having the time of his life rattling people’s’ cages!
He’s doing this stuff partly for the sake of innovation and partly because he just loves shaking things up. Can you imagine how Chuck Schumer starts having serious chest pains when he hears there’s now a 41 round shotgun? It’s a wonder to be some libidiot in the Senate hasn’t already introduced a bill to ban EVERYTHING Kel-Tec and deport Kellgren.
I don’t own a Kel-Tec product, but I’m thinking it’s time to change that!
Someone said RUGER…let me tell you, if they put out a lemon which it seems now many are, they will still not fix it. I sent in a Blackhawk, it took 3 weeks, got it and nothing not a thing was done to it, like they took it from one box and put in another, slapped a label one and off it went. Many people are bitching about their service. I switched, trying Taurus now, and have to say WOW, got a mico tcp and the warranty is with the gun, if I gave it to my kid, its warranty transfers, nobody beats that. Also got one of those SW SD40 VE, another WOW it has yet to jam, will handle +p and very light, even with 15rnds stacked in it!! Sorry Cali folks, 11 for you, maybe Trump will do something about the land of fruit and nut policies there! My money is with Taurus so far, that warranty cannot be beat! I like SW but the warranty is for just the owner. So I have to register it…geez…
Sorry about your bad luck with Ruger. I had an SR9C light striking, sent it in, several parts replaced and back within a week, no cost to me. Had well over a thousand rounds into it after the repair with no issues.
Always thought Ruger had good service, I’ve recommended them because of it.
No, sorry. I’m a big Ruger owner, 5 Blackhawks, 2 M-77’s, 22/45, mini 14’s and 3 10/22’s.
Sent a Blackhawk in, brand new with bore cutter chatter marks that leaded something fearful, and one cylinder throat WAY under spec (measured with precision slugs by a competent gunsmith) and all they did was to replace the barrel, and REMOVE my Trapper bullseye spring kit, replacing it with the crappy factory springs!!!!!
They didn’t touch the undersized throat, and it took 4 weeks .

Yes its good but i had a couple Taurus firearms that had problems and when i called them they made me pay the shipping and Told me when they received it they would check it out and if they found something wrong with it then they would fix it and make me pay again for shipping Back
True about Taurus. Shipping charge that I don’t remember years ago. Per my 10/22 I have a Walmart bag full of new and different mags and mag configurations. They all require me to push trigger forward for next shot. Including original ten round mag. I think they sell new lowers with much less trigger pull. May try that. Gun was $299 or so from Walmart. Put new swing away buttstock and 4x scope. Very accurate for short shots. Lived on 149 acre farm then. Now 1/3 acre platt house. Don’t shoot much anymore. Never paid to shoot or fish in my life. Maybe time to thin out collection.

EVERY TAURUS I HAVE EVER HAD JAMBED OVER AND OVER. SEND THEM BACK TO ORLANDO FORIDA, THEY WERE GREAT ABOUT FIXING THEM BUT I WOULD GET THEM BACK AND AFTER TWO ROUNDS, THEY JAMB AGAIN. I THINK THEY MAKE ONE OF THE WORST 357 MAGNUMS ON THE MARKET. I HAVE TWO RUGER SP101 357 MAGNUMS, NEVER A PROBLEM. GOT RIDE OF ALL TAURUS EXCEPT (1) JUDGE.

I had the same problem with Ruger, I have a 44 Magnum revolver that kept locking up I sent it in for repairs, they sent it back untouched, I went through this twice each time they returned it saying it was repaired even though it was not. Stay away from Ruger products they are unable or unwilling to repair them this is become a bad company, avoid them.
Through my years of dealing with firearms companies I have found no shortage of those reticent to fulfill their obligation to the customer base. Having never sent a gun back to Ruger (although there have been plenty that I had good cause to) I cannot specifically speak to them, but I will tell you my system that works equally well with any company. Before sending your gun in, clean it until it sparkles, inside & out. When it is returned back to you, check it over thoroughly. If still clean, call the service department and ask if they clean firearms before returning them. NOBODY does that; not even those test fired with black powder firearms. When they tell you that they do not, you’ve got them . . .
As an aside, I will tell you that of all the companies I’ve sent guns back to there was not a ruder, more uncooperative & arrogant bunch than Colt. Since I will not own a Taurus, I cannot speak to them either, but I have sent guns back to NAA, Glock, Armalite, Walther/S&W, among others, not a one of which conducted themselves in a manner I would consider conducive to better customer relations. Just another aggravation in the nasty now & now . . . YMMV.
The original KSG holds 15 rounds..14 in the magazine tubes and one in the chamber. Story says 13. I like the two KSGs I own a LOT..but I doubt I would trade either for one of these ultra-ultra capacity units and increase the OAL by 12″. Not a good trade.
The KSG holds 13 rounds of 3″ shells, or 15 rounds of 2 3/4″.
The point was a compact home defense or truck gun. That is no longer compact.

Once again, more “vaporware” from Keltec. When it can actually be found, (maybe in 3-4 years from now) it will sell for about double of MSRP, and they will only make 6 of these this year. None of those 6 that they build will ever make it out into the real world. Everyone thinks they are great but no one who you actually know has ever laid their hands upon one! Keltec should just start designing stuff and then contracting out other manufacturers to actually MAKE their stuff. You know, companies like RUGER, who can actually PRODUCE STUFF! Keltec is a JOKE.
Agreed. I’ve gotten tired of Kel-Tec’s shenanigans. They should be trying to produce what they already have instead of developing new products. They should be focusing on unique items like the PMR and CMR-30’s as well as Sub2k’s. They’ve been completely one-upped on their small 380’s and 9’s.
I would think that in the case of modified KSG, this new cousin will be manufactured much more quickly by Kel-Tec. It is just an elongated version of the KSG. All of the primary parts are the same, just lengthened tubes and barrel. I believe Kel-Tec may have a lot of KSG product lying around after the initial surge of interest and some smart person in their marketing department said, “Hey, I know how we can get rid of some of this excess KSG inventory…”. The interesting part will be how much the “Gotta have it now crowd” will be foolish enough to over pay for it. Wonder what the fully loaded thing weighs?
Kaltec is genius, not a joke. Build and staff a factory that can build 100k guns per month. economy goes in the crapper and you can only sell 1000 guns per month and your company crashes and burns.
Keltec has decided to stay small and produce a certain amount of guns per day/month/year. They make many millions per year profit and are pretty safe when the economy goes up… and down.
So what way would you go if you where a gun manufacturer, super huge or stay small and sell every gun you can make? I know what I’d do, same as Keltec is doing, stay small and build my guns as good as possible and efficiently as possible.
Here is one thing Keltec does that I might not have done, keep prices as low as possible. When every one online is complaining about not being able to find a keltec and with dealers shafting buyers with high prices, keltec still sells guns cheap. I’d probably have raised prices and tried to profit more, a little more any way.
How do I know Keltec sells cheap still? Because from time to time, some dealers can be found selling the super rare Keltec guns for CHEAP. When the KSG first came out some dealers were selling them for 1200 or more… because they could. Some dealers when they could get a few KSG guns in stock, let them go cheap.
Same thing for the Keltec PMR-30. If you read the forums every one wants one but no one can find one and when they do the price is 499.00+. My local gun store has them for 339.00. When I tell people online about this, they tell me they are going to drive across 2 states to buy one, or the beg me to buy one for them. WTF?
I know this FOR SURE, if I was a gun manufacturer I sure as hell would like it if my factory output was constantly backlogged and people were constantly complaining they wanted my guns but could not find them. But, according to you, Keltec is a joke right?
I know it sucks to hear about guns Keltec supposedly has but you can not find the gun anywhere. I bought a Keltec PF9 and it is a good shooting little gun and is reliable and it fits in my front pocket.
My local gun stores said who? when I said Keltec, so I just looked around waited for the right deal and bought online. Worked for me and the little Keltec PF9 also works just fine.
Better guns out there now? sure but as long as my PF9 continues to be reliable, I might as well keep it and spend my $$ on much better more expensive toys so that is what I do.
