Zenith Roller-Delayed ZF56 Debuted — SHOT Show 2024

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

One of the more interesting rifles to be announced at SHOT Show 2024 was the Zenith Firearms ZF56. Set to hit the market in April, this roller-delayed ZF56 is generating some buzz for its unique attributes while maintaining familiar AR controls.

The standout features of the ZF56 is its roller-delayed blowback operation within the bolt assembly, designed to deliver a softer recoil and heightened reliability.

Users often liken the firearm’s recoil to the renowned MP5, delivering a familiar and comfortable shooting experience. After trying it out at the range day, I can confirm. The recoil impulse is longer and softer than typical ARs.

The ZF56 uses AR-style magazines, pistol grips, and stocks.

Notable for the roller-delayed ZF56 is addition of a last-round bolt hold-open function, a feature not common among other firearms utilizing this operating system. This rifle also featuring a side charger so users can give it the classic MP5 slap to charge it.

However, the ZF56 requires an upward slap to release the catch. While this doesn’t seem as familiar, from a speed standpoint it makes sense. It is designed to be slapped in one motion after reloading a new magazine.

The ZF56 boasts compatibility with AR-style magazines and furniture, offering users the option to customize their firearms with widely available stocks and grips.

Zenith has also introduced a proprietary lower, contributing to the firearm’s distinctive design. The barrel undergoes cold hammer forging, fluting, and features a 6-groove 1/7” right-hand twist. Barrel length options include 12”, 14.5”, and 16”.

The ZF56 initially unveiled a few months ago will become available in April with an MSRP of $2,500. Additionally, Zenith has exciting plans for the future, with the promise of 308, 9mm, and 10mm versions slated for release sometime next year.

I looked at that rifle at SHOT, what a POS. Looked like an idiot cobbled ot together with a hammer. Rougher than a cob. Also, the salesman knew nothing, as in not a damn thing about the rifle. The engineer almost wet his pants when I asked to break the rifle down. A complete disappointment!
