A quiet DeSoto cul-de-sac turned chaotic Friday night in Dallas when a woman shot an armed intruder who had followed her home from a nearby Taco Bell.

Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots just before 8:00 p.m., and police quickly responded to the scene near South Polk Street and Beltline Road.

According to DeSoto Police, the woman noticed a truck trailing her vehicle and pulling into her driveway when she arrived home.

Moments later, the driver, identified as 35-year-old Octavio Flores Mondragon, attempted to force his way into her house through the garage door while armed with a pistol. Dispatchers reportedly heard the woman screaming as Mondragon tried to break in.

The woman acted decisively, calling 911 before retrieving a handgun. Police say she shot Mondragon as he attempted to enter her home.

Officers arrived minutes later and found Mondragon in the garage with gunshot wounds and a loaded pistol lying next to him. He was transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Mondragon now faces felony burglary charges.

Neighbors expressed shock at the incident. “We just don’t have this kind of activity here,” one resident, DJ James, who called 911 after hearing the shots, told FOX4 Dallas Fort-Worth.

Surveillance footage captured police responding to the scene, adding to the tension in the usually peaceful neighborhood.

One neighbor, reflecting on the event, said, “Luckily, she had safety and protection and a blessing over here. It could have gone a lot worse.”

The suspect lives less than a mile from the woman’s home, police confirmed. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the incident.
