Congress recently passed U.S. Rep. Mike Bost’s (IL-12) amendment, H.R. 705: The Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act. This amendment prevents the Veterans Affairs Department from forwarding veterans’ names to the Department of Justice for background checks associated with financial assistance.
The current law required the VA to pass on veterans’ information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System without any judicial review or due process when a fiduciary is assigned to aid with their finances.
The term “mental defective” was previously applied to veterans needing financial aid under the VA Fiduciary Rule.
Bost criticized this term as an insult to those who served the country and opposed the violation of their rights. He expressed his pleasure over the House’s approval of his amendment, stopping this unconstitutional practice.
Bureaucrats should not be disarming veterans!

Thanks to @RepBost the House voted to pass the Veterans' 2nd Amendment Protection Act to help secure the 2A rights of those who served. 👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/Y81DU3Tfz9
“The VA Fiduciary Rule says that, if you’re a veteran who needs help with your finances, you’re a ‘mental defective’ who needs to be screened by the government to own a firearm. What an insult to the men and women who have served,” said Bost in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.

“No veteran should be considered ‘defective’ simply because they need help managing their finances; and they certainly shouldn’t be forwarded to DOJ for additional screening because of it,” he continued.
“I can think of no American I’d trust more to responsibly own a firearm than a veteran. I’m pleased the House passed my amendment to stop this unconstitutional assault on the rights of our veterans,” Bost concluded.
Bost’s amendment was part of the annual military construction and veterans’ programs funding bill.
It received support from top Second Amendment organizations such as the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and the National Association for Gun Rights. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion also backed Bost’s endeavor.
Hopefully, it clears the Senate in the coming weeks.

As a combat veteran, I am appalled by our government. I served with Pride and now I I have no pride for government that I served.
Mentally defective because a veteran is in need of financial assistance? This is a reprehensible idea, especially when the veterans turn to the one institution that is supposed to be all about helping us! Now, we can’t trust that! It is absolutely no wonder that veterans turn away from the VA, from the government and the ideas that they are here for us!
The reason we have to go in and fight for another country in the first place is because their government took the guns away from it’s citizens. The first thing that happens when a conflict arises is that the CIA goes in and gives all the rebels guns to start an uprising. Don’t let that happen in our country.
vets with financial difficulties are considered mentally deficient……makes you wonder about the PTSD claims…..
Why the Sam-Hell do we need a bill/law to make this stop happening.
Just DEMAND that they stop doing it the cabinet level.
Oh, wait, this is Brandon’s cabinet.
Why is it ok for a man or woman to be an elected representative of the United States an be “mentally defective” ?
Ther are adequate numbers in our government making the headlines daily to prove my point.
Is not the power of the pen more powerful than the sword/gun?
Yeah cause. Demsheviks are so good at handling their and the US financial affairs.
Rep. Bobby Rush wages were garnished, should he be determined as “mental defective” on this financial circumstance alone?
It’a good thing the Vets were not “mentally defective” when the volunteered to serve this country to ensure that we have all the freedoms that we enjoy. Only a bunch of liberty hating d-bags would consider it appropriate to deny Vets their 2nd A rights. Are they afraid of our Vets ? My thanks to all who served .
I am glad this passed the House but I see no chance it will pass the senate. The Demo-Satinists there want only to enslave, not free… And if it did pass I can not imagine the “President” signing it… if he could find a pen, if he could find his desk, if Obama told him too…
man couldn’t find his ass with both hands (hint, joe look for your vp your ass will be close) so someone will veto it for him
It is not alright for a Veteran that fought for this country in a far away land, for something he or she may not have a personal interest in for the benefit of his / her country. To own a firearm because he / she may no longer be able to manage finances, but can still field strip a service weapon blindfolded in their sleep. And hit a target a thousand yards away. But it is alright for the Presidents Junkie Son to own a handgun? Why is that? Double Standards have to stop in this country. If they don’t, we are no better than the countries that Vets just got done fighting in.
Excellent!
That’s great that the House passed it, but it still has to be ratified by the senate… Good luck…
The goal of this current government is to make this a communist country, and they can’t have people having them that are not afraid to use them.
all democraps are mentally defective so prevent them from owning guns! I guess they are afraid ex-military will uphold and defend the constitution something they don’t want to happen!!!
That’s hitting the nail on the head my friend.
Go Army!
