Wealthy Church Moves to Stop Cabela’s from Selling ‘High-Cap’ Guns, Mags

in Authors, Current Events, Industry News, S.H. Blannelberry, This Week

A wealthy New York church with a small stake in Cabela’s, which specializes in hunting, fishing, shooting, camping merchandise, wants to stop the outfitter from selling “high-capacity” magazines and firearms.

New York’s historic Trinity Wall Street church owns 4,600 shares in Cabela’s and is hellbent on forcing the retailer to stop selling many widely popular and commonly owned firearms and magazines.

“High-capacity weapons are especially dangerous,” wrote the Trinity leadership in a proposal calling for a shareholder vote on the matter at the annual meeting next year. “They are used in mass killings and are ‘crime guns’ because they can kill many people quickly and without reloading. They reduce opportunities for people to flee or overwhelm a shooter.”

“Cabela’s shareholders, the owners of the Company, should easily conclude that Cabela’s sale of high-capacity handguns and rifles worsens public safety and poses a clear danger to Cabela’s reputation as a family destination store,” the proposal continued.

Specifically, the church wants Cabela’s to stop selling any firearm or magazine that can fire more than eight rounds without reloading.

If you remember, this isn’t the first time Trinity has used its stakeholder position to foist an anti-gun agenda on a business that sells firearms. Retail giant Walmart has also seen the gun-grabbing wrath of Trinity.

However, Walmart’s decision to stop selling AR-15s and other tactical looking rifles was based on “market conditions” — not politics or pressure from the church, according to company executives. Hmm, that still sounds a bit fishy to me. You can read more about that here.

In any event, we’ll see how Cabela’s responds. So far, management has not issued a statement.

It should be noted that there is no legal definition for “high capacity.” For many gun owners, “high capacity” firearms and magazines is a relative term. It really depends on the platform. For example, one could argue that a 30-round magazine for an AR-15 is standard capacity. Likewise, a 17-round magazine for a Glock 17 is standard capacity. A high-capacity magazine for an AR-15 would be 100-round drum and for a Glock 17, well, heck you can get a 100 round magazine for that as well.

More importantly, gun owners see both the pros and cons of having larger mags. Obviously, in a gunfight, the more rounds the better. But it can get reductive after a certain point. An extra-large, unwieldy magazine can slow one down, effect one’s accuracy and impair concealment. Plus, the really big drums are more prone to jamming, which is not something anyone wants to come across in the heat of the moment.

In terms of lethality, more rounds do indeed make one more lethal. But what the church leadership fails to consider is the other side of the coin. That is the law-abiding good guys with the guns who need them for self-defense and other traditionally lawful purposes. I want my GF to have her optimal tool for self-defense within the home and in the public square, be that an AR-15 with a 30-round magazine and/or a Glock 17 with an extended mag. The Second Amendment protects her ability to choose what firearm and what magazine is best for her in-home and carry needs. To restrict that right, to limit her options only puts her in greater danger. Put another way, one wouldn’t expect a lumberjack to show up to work with a pocket knife when it’s clear he needs a chainsaw.

Instead of focusing on the psychos and sociopaths who are going to break the law and gun-up with any firearm they want regardless of what sales prohibition is in place, church leaders ought to be mindful of the self-defense and home protection needs of everyday citizens.

Democrats and there idiot polices are killing hundreds of thousands every year.
If the checks cant be paid there ready to kill hundreds of millions.

billions of rounds Obama purchased to maintain order was that a run up for hillary I think not.
The establishment – the govwrnment in place will not be throttled.
there still telling a lie we all know is a lie.

4600 shares? That’s hilarious considering there are nearly 69 million shares outstanding according to Bloomberg. It gives them the right to make a little noise at a stockholder’ s meeting but that adds up to about a thousand of a percent. Even with religious power and public outrage it’s not going to carry much weight with majority stockholder Bass Pro or most if the other serious stockholders. Makes a great sensationalist headline. The $280,000 thi s church spent would have been more useful on homeless programs.

These guys would want to ban revolvers (they do anyway) if more people saw Jerry Miculek fire and reload with his amazing skill and speed.

  • Rg Gal October 20, 2017, 3:58 pm

Bass Pro, which also owns boat maker White River Marine Group and outdoor-themed resorts, has said it will continue to run Cabela’s as a standalone brand. That said, I wonder if the parent company will step in if restrictions on mags and other firearms are implemented.

Sell your stock. This will save you from being an offender! Buy shares in plows. When the enemy comes for you, they will have a great instrument to use to PLOW YOU UNDER. IDIOT! Study history, WW2, See what the Germans did to the people that did not have any means to defend their lives. Being a member of a religious group does not mean you must be stupid! This group appears to follow that thinking.

  • Norm Fishler July 22, 2017, 11:35 pm

Suggestion to Trinity: sell your shares in Cabelas & buy Target or Home Depot. I’m sure you’ll feel much more at home there.

  • James Summers July 21, 2017, 12:00 pm

If the church insist on doing political work then take away their tax free status.
Let them pay as any other lobby group.
If going to play then must pay.

If a Church is tax exempt are they not supposed to be not for profit??? I’m sure Cabelas probably makes a profit and pays dividends to shareholders!!!

  • Mahatma Muhjesbude January 4, 2016, 11:29 am

Now you know why the visionary Framers made a point about preventing theocracies with the 1st Amendment ‘s ‘separation clause’.

The historic facts are that churches never traditionally supported weapons and then guns for anybody else but their own ‘holy warriors’. And of course they had the best stuff. Sound familiar?!

You can search Papal Bulls that specifically support more gun control in America. Yet the Pope’s personal bodyguards all carry either the 92FS full auto pistol w/30 round mags, or their current military sub gun under their coats.

The modus operandi of churches are to control everyone from sperm to the dirt berm. There’s no need for the ‘flock’ to have guns.

When the American Revolution happened it was also against the formal Church of England, which had been ‘in bed’ with the King at the time. Unfortunately the Catholic church was well entrenched by that time in the nascent colonies as the main source of formal ‘education’ aka, indoctrination, and dominated this form of social control until the old rapscallion genius himself, Ben Franklin, started the first Secular Public University in Philadelphia around 1760’s, which was the first one in the country to teach the Sciences.

    • Phil Hess January 4, 2016, 1:32 pm

Would you mind quoting that “separation clause”? My Constitution doesn’t seem to have it nor does any other copy that I have ever seen.

    • Betty Butterfield January 4, 2016, 3:22 pm

There was one out of the thirteen colonies that had Catholic dominance. Catholics were reluctantly tolerated at best, and unapologetically ostracized, or worse in the twelve Protestant colonies. Your bizarre claim of Catholicism being “well entrenched by that time” is historically dishonest (or maybe just another lesson in government-run public school history). When the Church did establish its influences on American society, through mass immigration from Ireland, Italy and Germany, it was geographically limited to the Northeast– never the South (one exception perhaps: New Orleans).
Not to worry though. Your feared “Catholic” indoctrination institutions (like Georgetown, Notre Dame, Fordham, Loyola…) are as squirrelly leftist as any state-run education business. Your current Pope will also get high scores from the “settled science” crowd with his global warming opinions. Looks like your concerns are well behind you, way back in “by that time”.

  • Christopher G January 3, 2016, 2:28 pm

God is concerned about our eternal soul, not what type of guns we own. If they actually read the bible they would see the condition of a mans heart is to blame, not whether they own a gun that can fire more than 8 rounds. This is ridiculous, they should have their tax exempt status revoked. Liberal ideology is contrary to true Christianity, read the bible without taking it out of context and you find this to be true. A church more concerned with politics and not spreading the gospel is not in line with Jesus.

    • Phil Chase January 3, 2016, 11:41 pm

      Amen brother.

    • Jake October 21, 2017, 1:15 pm

The NRA had the 11th Commandment removed. Thou shalt not carry more than eight arrows at a time. Progtard states are full of Progtard churches I guess.

  • rickinmich January 3, 2016, 10:45 am

obviously a church full of the typical “New York style” liberal cunts that have found a new manor in which to push their socialist anti American agendas.
The only way you could get these limp dick liberals to be pro gun would be to show them how to use a firearms for abortions!

  • Nam January 3, 2016, 2:00 am

Keep church and state seperate. Continue to control your flock, particularly the ones who cannot control their own lives. In truth church is nothing more than a business and should be taxed accordingly. All churches! End of national debt. Stick with your fiction.

    • Mahatma Muhjesbude January 4, 2016, 11:44 am

With people finally realizing just how much of the ‘Old West’ the Government owns with this latest anti guv land grab Peaceful Patriot protest in Oregon, a lot of people would be very surprised at how much land the church owns in this country…TAX FREE! Oh, by the way, this is where the Catholic Charities are ‘housing’ the undocumented, un-vetted Syrian refugees without anybody officially knowing for sure who they are or exactly where they are. Just ask Gov. Christie.

But nothing new. The church had an ‘interesting’ underground railroad going from Germany to South America during WWII.
Amazing how many escaping Nazis used it. And how much Art Treasures and gold wound up at the Vatican.

      • Matt Helm October 21, 2017, 11:26 pm

The stand this church is making is social not biblical.

  • Chris Baker January 2, 2016, 7:27 pm

I want to know, as a Christian myself, what is ANY church doing, owning any part of a business other than spreading the Gospel? I hope they aren’t being afforded tax free status on any income they get from their business holdings.
Luke 22:36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
Would this church take away my God given right to own my own “sword”?
Think about this: Swords are arms just as firearms are arms. Yet from what I have read and been told, swords are illegal to carry most places. How else has your right to keep and bear arms been infringed? Knives? Carry a flail and see if you don’t get a trip to the police station.

  • Mike January 2, 2016, 3:30 pm

What a good idea. Get the liberals, environmental whackos and other anti American nuts to invest in stocks and bonds of American industry, bring up their agenda at stockholder meetings and discover how far out of touch they are. Meanwhile the American economy gets a boost from their investment and they have less money to spend on advertising their agenda.

  • Mike American January 2, 2016, 1:08 pm

Who cares what the Trinity church thinks or does. In the end they will be judged, not by God but by the fighters and winners of the civil war that is coming soon, very soon. When the deaf, dumb and blind hypnotized idiots of this country voted to allow the government to take someone and make them disappear and kill them without any legal process (Patriot Act), that was the end of the United States. Since then America has become more and more totalitarian and is now a police state. To worry about what some Godless church like Trinity, who’s only motivation is money and power, the tools of satan, is doing is a waste of time. Those that support the church’s proposal are fools and will realize it some day. All gun free or restricted zones are just happy hunting grounds for criminals and psychotic killers. Let them have it. Keep your eyes on what’s really going on instead of the brainwashing, Most TV, sports fanaticism, college indoctrination to socialism, or what some pathetic church does. They will get theirs in the end.
Wow, I’m on a roll today. bda, bda, bda, that’s all folks!

    • Chris Baker January 2, 2016, 7:30 pm

Oh but they WILL be judged by God. Everyone will be judged on that day.
Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

  • Gman January 2, 2016, 12:51 pm

Yep, Episcopal, openly gay Bishops and all. They gotta get PR somehow, the episcopal church is dying in America. Just ignore them they will eventually vanish. Nothing to see here folks.

STAY OUT OF MY 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS – TRY TO PREACH THE GOSPEL IF YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT IT SAYS?

  • O.A. G January 2, 2016, 11:01 am

It is interesting that Trinity says and does nothing about the thousands of children who are killed via abortion. So much for following their First Principles as described in “What We Believe” found on their web site.

  • BobR January 2, 2016, 5:20 am

Maybe they should just sell their stock and butt out.

    • Charles Kimberl January 2, 2016, 10:31 am

That is what would be done by normal conservative folks.

    • maxindriggs January 6, 2016, 8:35 am

Nah, They won’t sell Cabella’s stock now that Osama Obama has declared his newest fight against guns. Guns sales are up, up, up. Cabella’s is selling he crap out of guns and ammo, which is making these Trinity turkeys money, which means more to them than preaching and teaching the gospel.

  • Buddhabman January 2, 2016, 1:28 am

Better get used to this. It’s likely to be successful. Also for the record the Catholic Church has stated political interests (Birth Control, Anti-Abortion) as well. However on the Liberal side, Church leadership is not a big fan of guns.

    • Gerald January 2, 2016, 10:29 am

Abortion is murder of the innocent. The Catholic Church has been whimpy on this issue.

      • Jesus Christ January 2, 2016, 12:37 pm

That is your opinion. Other people have a different opinion about abortion and birth control.

        • Chris Baker January 2, 2016, 7:33 pm

Other people are wrong. Just because a lot of people believe something doesn’t make it true or alright. A lot of people seem to think it’s ok to take away our rights to self defense. A lot of others seem to think it’s ok to just kill us all because we don’t worship Allah. There’s more of them, Muslims, than there are people in the U.S. Does that make them right? NO.

  • Nick January 1, 2016, 11:01 pm

That’s sad to me. They are sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong and using financial leverage to directly influence (threaten) a company to do their bidding is just plain wrong. They need to leave that to the for-profit sector. They are treading thin ice as well. Hmmm. WalMart stopped selling MSR’s because of “market conditions?” Then they stopped selling ammo for the same reason I guess…

  • Larry January 1, 2016, 11:00 pm

That’s why Jesus did not like the religious & turned over their tables in the temple. They were all nutty leftists!

    • Mike January 1, 2016, 9:06 pm

My guess is, the patrons of this New York church will most certainly vote for Hillary Clinton. Now am I the stupid one or are they. Nuff said.

  • michael petersen January 1, 2016, 10:21 pm

The gun control issue is clearly a political issue . Any church involved in political issues , lose their tax exempt status .So all we have to do is revoke that status and they will keep their noses out of issues they have no business being involved in . Pretty simple .MBP

    • Doug January 1, 2016, 4:19 pm

Amen, They need to get all the thugs in church and us Law abiding Americans would not have to use guns to protect ourselves from human dirt?

      • Methane251 January 2, 2016, 2:51 am

And don’t forget: “Human dirt” also includes the thugs in D.C. After all, this is the purpose of the Second Amendment.

    • Buddhabman January 2, 2016, 1:30 am

Catholic Church and numerous “Christian” churches have stated political interests.

    • Glenn Smith January 2, 2016, 3:30 am

If you are a Christian…..You had better get involved in politics because your government it removing ALL of you rights! A TRUE Bible Believing church and it’s people render to Caesar what is caesar’s and to GOD, what is Gods! WAKE UP AMERICA!

    • Mark N. January 2, 2016, 6:12 pm

Yes it is an issue in the political realm, but an issue as well in the private realm. Last I checked, Cabelas is not a public entity; hence shareholder activism does not constitute political activism that could potentially threaten its tax exempt status. Try again.

  • krinkov5.45 January 1, 2016, 10:15 pm

  • Rick Hood January 1, 2016, 7:53 pm

  • derek smalls January 1, 2016, 7:18 pm

4600 shares? Really? Ignore them. And make sure they are taxed on any gains just as I would be.

  • D.Tros January 1, 2016, 6:28 pm

Churches lose their tax exempt status when they become a political activist organizations, unless it supports the govts position. Then it’s fine. The truth is most churches today do not even teach the bible, so this should not surprise anyone. Christians should be the first to defend the 2nd amendment, but often don’t, because they do not see that as soon as the 2nd amendment is gone, so is the 1st.

  • AK January 1, 2016, 6:14 pm

This is just one more example of just why old-line mainstream Protestant denominations are dying out.

  • David Huffman January 1, 2016, 4:44 pm

Could someone explain to me what is the definition of a high capacity magazine is? If the gun or weapon has a capacity of 5 rounds, 15 rounds, 25 rounds, 30 rounds. Is that not the manufacture to determine? So a semi-auto pistol has a capacity of 15 rounds as determined by the Manufacture so what makes this gun a high capacity magazine, what rule of law or Federal statue says this is a high capacity magazine? So using the reasoning of the liberal media and liberal politicians, every car should only have a three cylinder engine and then speed would longer be a hazard to other people on the road? Or every vehicle sold in the US should have a breathalyzer installed no more DUI’s. That’s just stupid.

    • Chris Baker January 2, 2016, 7:41 pm

Actually the government has more right to regulate what kind of capabilities your car has than they do to regulate what kind of arms you have. There is no right to own or drive a car in the constitution. You have a right to travel, but you are free to walk. You have a right to self defense given by God and spelled out in the second amendment; “the right of the people, to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. All those restrictions on magazine capacity, caliber, where you can carry, how you can carry, having to ask permission to carry or even buy whatever type of arm you choose, is an infringement on that right.

      • Ed in Ohio January 3, 2016, 2:58 am

Well, there was a time when the general public could purchase full auto BAR and Thompson machine guns. Now it’s what? A special Federal License? Couldn’t higher magazine capacity and rate of fire also be made out of reach to the general populace just as easily? More likely they will go after ammo availability. Can’t shoot a gun you can’t buy ammo for….
What really bothers me is how the Gun is blamed when nut bags go off….and there seem to be more and more nut bags…..and that just feeds the fire for those that want guns removed from our persons permanently. Scary. We need to stop nutjobs and criminals from access….not law abiding enthusiasts who like to kill paper.
I worry that not relenting on some issues like mag capacity or whether the average Joe really needs an AR or an UZI may eventually lead to emboldening those that want confiscation of everything with maybe exceptions for revolvers, bolt action rifles and shotguns. They could argue that you still have gun rights….so what’s the big deal?

        • Chris Baker January 9, 2016, 10:11 am

Hey don’t forget killing bowling pins. Woo HOO That is way fun! On the serious side, the big deal is that all those restrictions are infringments. If they enforced the first amendment the way the do the second amendment we wouldn’t be having any discussion. There wouldn’t be any talk radio or free press. You wouldn’t be allowed to go to the church of your choice if it that choice was not to go to church. Out of all the gun laws the ONLY ones that are actually legal are the ones against using them in a criminal endeavor. I dare ANYONE to show me a law about registration or prohibition of a gun and explain how it doesn’t infringe on my right to keep and bear arms.

    • Liberals are stupid !! January 26, 2018, 9:50 am

I’ve been reading this whole thing and as it flows back and forth, the common denominator is the people behind whatever weapon they choose to use. The lefties continue to blame the weapons but the real problem is the scrwed up people behind the weapon weather it be a gun sword bow and arrow knife or a rocck. These things have been around almost forever and now more with all the pressures of life they seem to think the answer is to kill people for no real reason. We will never stop this because there really is no cut and dry answer. That is where God comes in and will take care of the whole thing in the end. Peace . By the way NOBOBY is getting my guns !! period !

  • Edward Rambo January 1, 2016, 3:28 pm

I think that I should have access to the same Firearms, and Mags. as the Criminals, and Terrorists, other wise they would be able to over come me in a Fire Fight if I have to change Mags. every few shots, besides Terrorists usually have Full Auto Firearms which we don’t have access to, and we have the rite to have access to best Firearm that we can afford for Hunting, and self-defense.. Stop punishing us Law-Abiding Citizens for the Actions of Criminals, and Terrorists, do something about them for a change..

  • BRASS January 1, 2016, 2:41 pm

There is no such thing as a “high capacity gun”. More meaningless terminology from the know nothings who dominate the anti-gun debate.

  • Hockeyboy January 1, 2016, 2:20 pm

    “Separation of church and state”.

A concept all liberal progressives like to shout from the roof top, when they spew the “Pro Choice” agenda.

Check the numbers of “murder by scalpel” and then we can have a conversation.

Or maybe they should just shut their pie holes and go into their prayer closets and do what God commanded his true followers to do.

  • Blankovich January 1, 2016, 1:48 pm

4600 shares owned by the church. As of now (per macroaxis.com) there are 69,320,000 outstanding (publically owned) shares. This means that the church has a huge 0.000066% of the company. While any shareholder can attend the annual shareholder meeting, a shareholder with less than 0.001% (one, one thousandth) of the company has no real say in the operation of the company. To force any real change in a company a corporate raider type needs at least 5% to 9%. If someone wants to take over a company they need at least 10% of the outstanding shares to force a vote and have to register with the SEC. This church is simply grandstanding; nothing more. Liberal, Marxists all dressed up in religion. The Bible DOES NOT teach us to be defenseless or to go around telling independent entities what they can or cannot do.

    • Rich January 1, 2016, 7:46 pm

AMEN, to Blankovich for his statement.

    • Chris Baker January 9, 2016, 10:20 am

The bible teaches Christians to avoid business dealings with non Christians if at all possible.

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

What are they doing owning stock in a company that they consider sinful? Hypocrites.

    • Chris Baker January 9, 2016, 10:37 am

I sent a nice polite email to the church about their business dealings and how I believed they were violating God’s word. I suggested they divest themselves of any company shares that they believed were being run in a sinful manner. If we all did that, they might actually do something different. But politeness is the key. You don’t convince anyone they are wrong by being nasty and calling them names etc. Logic can sometimes sway the illogical if it is presented in terms they understand.

IF YOU are a DEMON-rat YOU ARE the PROBLEM!!! Even Trump is SUPERIOR to the “Queen” (READ the book by that name). THAT Church is of the DEVIL. Rev. Dr. Lawrence E Henson

  • Bryan January 1, 2016, 1:32 pm

Maybe the church should sell its shares, if they are so convicted it seems hypocritical to profit off the selling of such merchandise.

  • john olson January 1, 2016, 12:43 pm

It seems to me that this so called “church” needs to spend a little more time reading the “Bible” and less time meddling in politics. I believe that Jesus told his flock that if they didn’t own a sword (the self-defence tool of the day) then they should sell something and buy one. I don’t remember reading anything about Him restricting the length of the sword either.

  • Chief January 1, 2016, 12:14 pm

I can say with certainty Jesus didn’t intend on Churches being in business and growing their stock portfolios .This is a poor example of what a Church should be and hurts the true ministry of those doing Gods work and not seeking financial gain.

    • JOHN T. FOX January 1, 2016, 2:45 pm

      WELL SAID!

    • JimT January 1, 2016, 9:07 pm

      Amen to that.

  • Al Friend January 1, 2016, 12:10 pm

Here is a new and very unique idea. If you don’t agree with someone’s business LEGAL business practices, then do not patronize them or buy into their stock. WOW!

Better yet, any church who provides a gun free zones shall lose their tax free status, not allowed to have gatherings of more than 3 people and generally be banned from the earth. Sounds just as fair and reasonable as their request.

Be very careful with the SS and Nazis telling you what to do and how they think the world should be. That didn’t work real well for the Germans, did it?

  • jerry January 1, 2016, 11:22 am

Stick to Prayers and not politics .. I guess too much money and too much time on your hands leads you to Trinity Wall Street church

  • Bulldog January 1, 2016, 10:29 am

It is obvious that tax-free laws need to be changed. Tax-free does not mean non-profit, which any church should strive to be (profits going back into the ministry of the church). If a church is indeed making a profit then that profit needs to be taxed. The implication from this church is that high capacity magazines are immoral, so why are they invested in an immoral company? [Love the sinner hate the sin doesn`t seem to apply here.]. They don`t seem to mind making money.

    • Bayou Boys January 1, 2016, 12:11 pm

I pay taxes on any stocks gains or profit you said a mouth full about non profit need to form a group lets see if there non profit lic. can be pulled

    • Fake Presbyterian January 1, 2016, 6:47 pm

I think this is the reason why they hold on to minuscule amounts of stock in companies like Cabelas. The church thinks they can blackmail them. You know, we might not own much stock, but we have the right to bitch because we do. And some idiots will think the church’s statements represent ALL the members of the church–upright, moral, reasonable–and if they don’t agree, then they are “violating God’s Will” or some other such nonsense.

“8 round magazines”? Could they please show us ONE popularly manufactured handgun or rifle that holds only 8 rounds in the magazine? NY’s SAFE act lost out on their “maximum capacity 7” as it became readily apparent, no one makes 7 round capacity magazines. I doubt that anybody makes 8 round capacity mags, either.

This whole thing is just BS.

  • Just1Spark January 1, 2016, 10:23 am

Why the f**k does a church own stock?

Anyways, Trinity is part of the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Im curious what the rest of their denomination across this country thinks about gun rights?

Also, this is the same church used in the movie National Treasure……… from Hollywood…… the antigun left.

In this instance, id use the word “church” as loosely as possible.

This is pure rubbish as Hi Caps being the main driver of gun crimes. Liberals are hellbent, they are hellbent as Hillary Clinton said she wants an Australian or England style ban on firearms, spoken like a true Liberal.

This church and its flock sheep should concentrate more on resolving ways to take the guns away from criminals instead of attempting to erode the 2ND Amendment. These sheep should sell their 4600 shares in Cabelas and apply the proceeds to an Anti-American Crusade Organization like Everytown or Brady.

Liberals are the lowest form of snake there is out there …. the best we gun owners can do is vote GOP at the Local, State, and Federal level.

    • deanbob January 1, 2016, 6:51 pm

Liberals don’t own many guns (compared to the rest of the populace, especially conservatives); but, as with some many areas of our lives, they think they know what’s best for all of us. Besides, as with Australia and the UK, outright banishment is their ultimate goal, which they all lie about.

No wonder so many New Yorkers are leaving that clap-trap. In fact, New York has the highest rate of people leaving the state versus new arrivals, who by the way, are mostly legal and illegal immigrants.

To be fair, stupid high taxes, and just stupid liberal policies also play a role. Bill DeBlasio has almost completely reversed the gains made in reducing crime and street people by his predecessors. A recent front page picture of a bum taking a piss in the street tells the tale. So while California and New York release and/or import violent thugs, they blame the law-abiding for violence.

Interesting how many of them end up in Florida: a state constantly derided by the New York press for its self-defense laws.

    • Chris Baker January 9, 2016, 10:45 am

Those are the exact reasons Rush Limbaugh lives and works out of Florida now and why Glenn Beck lives and works out of Texas. They are also the same reasons I moved out of California and now live in Arizona. Taxes aren’t a lot better but it’s refreshing to be walking around where no one frowns at you if you’re peacefully doing your daily shopping or going to the bank or wherever with a gun on your hip. Don’t try that in CA or NY or DC or any number of other places where crime is rampant. My opinion is that the lack of visible firearms is a main reason why crime is so high in those areas.

  • G Lester Thompson January 1, 2016, 8:45 am

Well, there it is, the franchised church of America, an investor with a political agenda, not considering the right of every person to protect themselves. One comment already suggested that their investment would be more scripturally founded, morally supported and on target with those funds invested in an anti-abortion movement. I wholeheartedly agree!

  • 357 Mag January 1, 2016, 8:36 am

Moderator didn’t allow my post my, why not boychick? I smell a Hasbara troll, but don’t fret, the upcoming revolution will fix a lot of wrongs in this country bubbie!

  • 357 Mag January 1, 2016, 8:18 am

I am sick and tired of these treasonous ZioNazi bastards and their EVILgelical kowtowing minions trying repeatedly to dis-arm the goys based on repeated false-flag events perpetrated by our Talmudic ZioNazi controlled government! Revolution needed to neuter these psychopathic parasites, pronto just saying!

    • A martin January 1, 2016, 6:50 pm

At least one of us is aware of the true problems, neoCons and commi-Democrats are nothing less than two sides to the same coin, totally controlled by the AIPAC thugs.

  • Rocky January 1, 2016, 7:51 am

Anytime anything comes out of New York screaming anti-gun, I get this eerie feeling Bloomberg is somehow behind it. I doubt seriously Cabela’s wasn’t sellling ARs and 30 round mags when the Church invested, and if the Church doesn’t like what Cabela’s sells, they shouldn’t have invested period. One can only hope that the remainder of the stockholders have a brain and tell the church to go invest their anti-gun money into an anti-abortion program somewhere.

  • Brian January 1, 2016, 7:33 am

Being a church in NY says it all… liberal! Fundamental Christians know what scripture says about humans and their propensity to sin and the “sin nature” everyone has. Not a desire to do wrong all the time but to act independent of our Creator and put our will before His. The typical liberal believes just the opposite; that we are basically good (specially them) and any wrong doing is the fault of our environment. Take us out of that environment and we as humans will be good and moral. That is just not true and our nation has basically sanctioned, legalized and legislated sin and it is crumbling from within because of it. Rather than blame the real problem, liberal anti-god thinking and lifestyles, it’s much easier to blame inanimate objects like guns than to look at themselves and their ideology as the source of evil. Our founders knew that man must be managed morally and hoped that Christianity would do that managing from within by changing the heart. They also knew that when Christianity and God are abandoned, the government cannot pass enough laws or legislation to make man moral by external mean. Governments cannot legislate morality, it can only put more and more limitation on man. American was built to provide the most liberty and freedom for the INDIVIDUAL but for that to happen, its citizens must be virtuous. As virtue declines, so does liberty. That is where we are today.

When a church needs/has a Board of Directors, then it is too big and becomes a business…not a religious organization. Let’s go back to the Constitution and the separation of church and State. A church should be allowed the main structure, a parsonage, and a meeting hall…after those they have no “need” and should be paying taxes on the property and any income it generates. The Catholic Church is the largest shoe factory owner/ shoe manufacturer in the U.S., and the Trinity Church of the article owns about half of Wall Street! Let’s band together and stop all of this tax-free insanity. By best estimates churches of America owe their various governments slightly more than 410 million dollars for fiscal year 2014. The last full year for which figures are available. Church leaders live like kings on our tax dollars! STOP IT!!!

  • superweinerschnitzel January 1, 2016, 5:33 am

Aren’t magazines over 10 rounds banned in New York anyway? My first thought was that this was a publicity stunt to boost the tithing community of the church. If they want any say in anything, they should pay taxes.

    • Gman January 2, 2016, 1:06 pm

Agreed. They are an episcopal church, they gotta get PR somehow. The episcopal church is dying in America, just ignore them they will eventually vanish. Nothing to see there folks but the opinion of the insignificant.

  • Drew January 1, 2016, 5:19 am

Can someone explain to me why a tax free organization is allowed to also allowed to purchase stocks? That also tax free? Always coming from New York first with this anti-gun agenda crap.

  • AK December 30, 2015, 2:25 pm

Yes, Maybe instead of becoming political and trying to advertise (as well as buy public entities), maybe they should focus their money on the poor and mentally ill. I wonder if anyone has done a study on how many sensational shootings have occurred since churches spend more time in politics and not in helping their congregations.

    • leon January 1, 2016, 7:15 am

      Dead on!!!!

    • Larry C. January 1, 2016, 7:46 am

AK, you are “right-on”. If the Catholic Church started to make statements on how M. Obama is wasting our money on her extavagant holidays, the IRS would start taxing them ummediately. These people have gone from theology to politics and should be taxed. As they support Obama’s views, that will never happen.
The church would more effective in reducing killings, if they started to emphasize, “Thou shalt not murder (the original Hebrew word), and Thou shalt not steal”.
