NRA exec. vice president Wayne LaPierre delivered one heck of a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, MD, this week.
Now, Wayne isn’t known for being a great speaker. For good reason. He’s not. He’s awkward, he stumbles over words, he looks really intense all the time — even when he’s trying to be sarcastic. Overall, he just doesn’t have a great stage presence.
But that’s okay, because what LaPierre lacks in style or flow, he more than makes up in substance. That’s right. His 2016 CPAC speech — aided by the occasional video interlude — made some very substantive and persuasive points on a range of gun-related issues. Below are some of the highlights.
On Hillary Clinton’s ability to pick a Supreme Court Justice:
“Hillary Rodham Clinton couldn’t pass a polygraph, but she’s already got a litmus test [for picking the next Supreme Court justice]. And she flunks both!”
On Trump-style rhetoric in the debates:
“This election year proves the rage of the American people to be real and powerful. Candidates, strategists and pundits are learning that telling it like it is brings success. Straight talk brings reward. Heck, I learned that in kindergarten. Truth counts. Truth matters. Truth endures.”
On the NRA’s call to have armed security at schools following Sandy Hook:
“As a result, millions of our children go to school today, no longer the sitting ducks of the worst and most dangerous of all lies — gun-free zones. The news media, protected by their own armed security, will never admit it but, today, millions of children are safer for one reason — the NRA.”
On the tried and true way to stop evildoers:
“The overwhelming majority of Americans agree with the simple truth that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, the politicians and the media be damned!”
On a woman’s right to choose (self-defense):
“Mr. President, no woman should be left to face evil with empty hands! To all of America’s women — you aren’t free if you aren’t free to defend yourself. If the president, Hillary Clinton or anyone else denies you that right, then they don’t care about you at all.”
On Obama’s failure to prosecute gun crimes:
“The truth that during his presidency, federal prosecutions of gun crimes have dropped dramatically. The truth that in his own hometown, over 400 Chicagoans have been shot already this year. Compared to this time a year ago, the homicide rate in Chicago has risen 100 percent … 100 percent!”
On the outstanding challenge to debate Obama:
“President Obama will never debate me on guns. His knowledge of that issue couldn’t fill a thimble and he knows it. I would clean his clock and he knows it.”
On Hillary’s antipathy for the Second Amendment:
“Then there’s Hillary Rodham Clinton. She’s been clear about one thing: She hates the Second Amendment. She hates us and is coming after every bit of our freedom.”
On the battle that’s to come:
“Mrs. Clinton, if you want to come after the NRA — if you want a fight over the God-given rights of America’s 100 million gun owners —if you want to turn this election into a bare-knuckled brawl for the survival of our constitutional freedom … bring it on. We aren’t going anywhere and we aren’t hard to find. Mrs. Clinton, we are the millions of honest, decent citizens all over this country.”

Please, Wayne’s boast is so bravely spoken, since he knows darn well he has NO chance of actually debating The President on the issue of gun control. And, um, by the way, former constitutional professor Obama is about 5 times smarter than the average smart person (Wayne is not in that category) and would most likely clean Wayne’s clock!

Oh, I almost forgot. Heck no Obama wouldn’t debate you. It would be pretty boring, waiting for Obama’s rebuttal to be debated, by Puppet Masters, backstage, then typed out for him to read. Would take for EVER!!!
Need to think of a smarter way to raise money. This campaign to raise lifetime membership dues, just made ppl angry. The money for legal fees will start pouring in, as we get closer to the election. I for one am planning on sending in what I can afford, PDQ. If Bernie, or Billary commit voter fraud, which is 100% a given, but if they win, you’ll have to hire more ppl just to count donations. We (Members) won’t let you down, that’s for sure. We’d be letting ourselves, Family and Future Generations down. Keep up the good work!
