Watch As Woman Tells A Father Not to Buy Son a Firearm at Texas Gun Store

in 2nd Amendment – R2KBA, Authors, S.H. Blannelberry, This Week

How would you respond if you were at a gun store and a father was going to buy a firearm for his son and a random woman interjects and says that it’s unsafe for the dad to give his son a gun?

That was the premise of a recent episode of ABC’s “What Would You Do?”

As you’ll see, patrons weren’t shy about telling the woman that she was out-of-line.

Even though I’m almost 60 years old, I distinctly remember taking a mandatory one hour gun safety class in elementary school taught by a police officer that showed the differences between revolvers and semi-autos and how to disarm them. It also included a short film on the hazards of improper use. It wasn’t one of these – “if you see a gun run and tell …” – kind of classes but a very informative hands-on experience. Basic stuff – finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot, know your target and whats behind it, never point at anything you don’t intend to shoot. The proper way to hand someone a gun.

I received a single shot .22 rifle at a very early age and was also taught by my father proper gun safety and those lessons have followed me through my life and I’ve passed them on to my daughters.

I think a mandatory gun safety class should be taught at ALL elementary schools nation wide. Whether or not someone chooses to get involved in the shooting sport later down the road they will definitely remember taking the class at the very least they’ll have the very basics on gun safety.

This is something I have been advocating for my whole life, only to fall on deaf ears!

Both my wife and I have carried for many years and we have taught our son fun safety from an early age. We tried many times to get our school district to use the Eddie Eagle program in the schools even as a voluntary program but were met with a lot of resistance. It really is sad to see the ignorance of people when they won’t even listen to reason, all we want is our kids to be safe.

  • badbob October 31, 2016, 2:41 am

When my 3 girls were young I taught them to shoot just as I taught them to cross the street. After all a nation with over 300 million firearms to not teach them should promote a call to CPS. Now I take my grandsons out to shoot and if they ever run across some yahoo’s firearm I have no worry of them shooting them self or others. The founders of our nation knew to teach our children the use and safety of firearms. The only difference is back then we didn’t have a bunch of cowardly idiots running around thinking a rifle with a pistol grip is used for only murder and the only thing saving them from a 600 grain, .50 caliber, BMG, hollow core, ceramic, Teflon coated, cop killing bullet coming out the end of a semi auto, plastic, Saturday night, assault weapon, special is Sarah Brady. But Sarah is a busy woman paying herself $900,000 a year off the top of her none profit organization so donate big and donate often.

What would that anti Gunner be doing any gun shop anyway if she hated guns? The scene is ridiculous though it brings a point but not in a gun shop

  • buddy gibbs June 19, 2016, 2:22 pm

If these savants truly believe we should be disarmed then publish a directory in every state of the homes that are armed and those that are gun free? That should make them and the rapists and murderers happy. See, problem solved! Happy hunting to all rapists and murderers.

I would tell her to go suck an exhaust pipe, I will buy my son his first weapon and he will be taught HOW and WHEN to use it and how to take care of it. If the gal with the large mouth protested have management throw her bum A%^ out the door.

I feel like doing this only in Texas and expecting anti-gun people to come out of the woodworks is misguided.

a more realistic area of the country to do it in would be New York or California where you\’re much more likely to run into anti-gun people

It is refreshing to see the MSM do a positive true real life story on the second amendment. I wonder if they thought it would turn out this way?
I taught my children about guns and gun safety at age 4 and took them out to fire my hand gun and 22 cal. rifle at age 7. I was not given that information about safety when I started shooting my fathers 22 cal. at age nine and I was fine. But it would have been better if I was given this information prior to going jack rabbit shooting. Back then in the 1960s it was a given you just got your parents rifle and went out shooting. Four years ago my son taught his 8 year old son about guns and now at the age of 12 he shoots all kinds of guns and he is a great shot and lives in California.
I live in California and your view of us in Californian is misguided as not all of us are socialists who have ruin our state. Most of those nut jobs live in the bay area of northern California, along the coast line and L.A.. I understand your views as our lawbreakers in Sacramento make up the most outrages socialist laws I have seen. We have gun laws that have made be ill. Gun registration in the most stringent in the country and they continue to make more. Just last year one of the most anti gunner politician in the state capital was arrested for…… importing guns ! Talk about a hypocrite piece of dung WOW.

As a New Yorker who doesn’t live in the disgusting city everyone assumes you’re from when you say you’re from NY, I have to agree with Mr. California here. Its not the part of the country you’re from, it’s the area you live in. For instance, I live in rural cow country an hour outside Albany (our states actual Capitol, not frigging NYC) Albany is a disgusting place too of course, after all it is a city. But about 10 minutes outside Albany in any direction is rural farm land like where I come from. And we all have Guns, Republicans, Democrats, and the people like me who know Republicans and Democrats are the same thing, overly opinionated people who can’t keep their noses out of everyone else’s business, like the woman in the video. Go into a gun store around here and you’ll get the same responses you see in this video. Because the people you find in a gun store in this country are more often than not, some of the most responsible, respectful, and logical people this country has to offer. And any one of them will tell you, owning a gun is not a right, it’s a responsibility……and yes also it is my right so keep your nose out of my business woman!!!!! ( not a misogynist by the way, just trying to be amusing;) ) and as for the video, the earlier you learn, the faster you’ll become a responsible gun owner, and that’s what this country needs, children raised to respect Guns, not Ipads, which should be restricted to children over 12 because they’re turning kids into morons. And I know from personal experience, I’ve got 6 nieces and nephews all addicted to those things and they’re going nowhere fast.

      • Dave M June 20, 2016, 11:32 am

I currently live in Sacramento, California. Most people here and towards the East have common sense. They realize that the law makers and most politicians want to remove the guns from everyone because they have not realized that gun free zones mean the criminals are free to do as they please. Politicians want you to give up your guns but they don’t want to give up theirs nor their body guards (Boxer). Who needs a 30 round clip? My son who has fun when we go to the range target shooting. Home protection, we have shotguns so we don’t have to aim during the stressful time. Just point and pull the trigger. Amazing what buckshot does to a target 15 yards away.
If you take away larger clips because they are meant to kill more people, then why not limit cars to only go 75mph and out law the high speed cars that are meant to go over 100mph. If the top speed in California is 75, then you don’t need a car that will do 150.
Terrorist at California University at Merced and at Boston Marathon did not use guns. Oh yeah and the ones that flew the planes on 9-11 did not use guns either. If people want to kill, they will find a way.

    • badbob October 31, 2016, 2:55 am

Anti-gun people? You are talking about the cowardly crazies right? Ones that would rather be shot with a bolt action 30/06 than a .22 with a pistol grip. Ones that outlaw bayonet lugs due to all those drive by bayonetings. People that think guns kill people and possess people changing them into mass killers of innocents.

So refreshing to see a national news program air the “TRUTH” about guns for a change. Like the man in one of the scenarios said, “We don’t blame a pencil for the words it writes!” Neither can the gun be blamed for the acts a criminal or deranged person commits with it. A gun is a tool , no more, no less! As to the “right” gun for a young person, some common sense MUST be displayed. Physical size and “emotional maturity” are paramount, along with adequate supervision and proper training.
Take a look at who is committing the heinous acts with firearms. Illegals, prior criminals, documented but not reported mentally incapacitated people and terrorists seem to be in the gun crime headlines I read and watch! Closely monitoring our borders (closing them to illegals), improving reporting of mentally unbalanced folks to law enforcement so they cannot purchase or possess firearms, stopping judges from giving light sentences to dangerous criminals(mandatory sentencing), arming our Military within the US, and around the world, allowing and promoting legal Concealed Carry and safety training in schools (NRA’s Eddie Eagle Program) would all go a long way in reducing these terrible tragedies! Making new laws that hamper legal gun ownership, call for smaller capacity magazines, limit gun or ammunition purchases, etc., etc., etc., and that hamper the defending of one’s family and property do absolutely nothing to decrease crime. Criminals by definition do not observe laws! Wake up America, legal gun owners, the Military and the NRA are NOT your enemies. The terrorists and criminals are! If you must make new laws, target these “enemies” and put them out of business!!!!!

  • Ricky Purcell July 27, 2015, 7:32 pm

It largely depends on the marurity not the age of a child and that’s regarding the guns type and intended us be it match shooting or hunting. It’s simply in my view that first a BB/Pellet Rifle is best regardless of age, young/old,then a Single Shot Bolt or Break Barrel .22cal. Rifle or .410ga Shotgun is the better choice as people tend get excited on their first hunting trip and children are no different. They learn Safe and Responsible handling as well as the importance of making each shot count. This is important as other hunters occupy the woods as well. Some are ready at 5yo though I tend see 11yo more practical for a true firearm. Some 17 year olds I wouldn’t hand a gun too were they irresponsible and radical. My 11yo daughter can and does hunt well after having successfully passed her Hunter Safety Course and Iis extremely mature and responsible for her age and takes safety and responsibility seriously. When not in use her .22 Single Shot remains in a Safe at her uncles Sporting Goods Shop. For Big Game, this is Brush Country and she hunts Deer with a Crossbow. Come Hunting Season her Rifle comes out and goes right back in at the end of mornings hunt. I see no reason to hand her a Semi Automatic and in a few years should she desire upgrade to a Bolt Action I see no problem with it at this time. My 8yo son I do not feel is ready and may not be at the same age she is if he even chooses hunt. Some kids are simply not interested in guns and hunting at all. He’s my fishing buddy for now. Regardless of age it is the parent of whom is responsible. The Hunter Safety Course is always a good idea and Free of Charge in my Home State as it should be. The Instructors are volunteers the children qualify at the Sheriffs Shooting Range and if a child is not ready they can readily spot it, deny the certificate and the child can return the following year.

  • Ricky Purcell July 27, 2015, 6:53 pm

My views regarding children though I am extremely Pro Gun differ when it comes to children in a sense and are based on my own personal experience, myself and my children ofwhich does not apply necessarily too all. After proper instruction the first gun I ever shot was at age 9yo, a .22 Colt SA Army Revolver but then I was a mature 9yo. The Colt required the hammer be cocked each time befor shooting and only when down range of which was clear and possessed a back stop.Nice but not exactly a gun for a 9yo, In My View. At age 11yo a .16ga. Bolt Action Shotgun, low brass, 1st hunting trip. Suitable. My 11yo daughter taught properly by myself, inactive Marine, spent 3 weeks at the Sheriffs Shooting Range where Hunter Safety Couses are taught before qualifying for her Safety Certificate. During that 3 weeks, she practiced over and over repeatedy unloaded and understood, one mistake, we go home for the day, no exception. The day finally came I felt comfortable and assured she was ready as I permit her loading the first round in her .22LR Single Shot Rossi Break Barrel Rifle and she’s been hunting with me since. She had a Single Shot .410ga. Rossi same operation and the plastic stocks do possess more recoil than most, she can tolerate it yet felt more secure shooting the .22 and of her own view felt the recoil at her age may also cause her to have an accident and we had the Sporting Goods Shop resell it for her thus buying a Crossbow for Big Game such as Whitetail Deer. She loves it. She hunts small game with the .22LR. The reason I chose the single shot rifle is due fact people at times get excited their first hunt and taking that into consideration chose the single shot lessening likelihood of accidents and the ability to improve ones skills and making the one shot count otherwise I’d have chosen a bolt action. Semi Automatic? Ruled it out at jump. There was no way I was willing chance her missing, getting excited trying to hit a running animal unloading on it and slinging led everywhere with other hunters in the woods. I’ve seen it happen before and fotunately nobody was hit as the young man got excited whoever he was. Now I do have an 8yo son of whom is old enough though in my view not ready, not responsible enough. Responsible parents know and like myself, could care less if a child is 16 or 17 years old, if irresponsible, not ready, they may never be handed a gun what so ever. That’s the way it is whether the child likes it or not, point being, factors do weigh in. If and when a child is ready being a large psrt of it and by all means Safety First. There is no room for accidents in the field nor especially when serious injury or loss of life are of concern. Children should learn at an early age. The parent knows their child best and upon taking the Hunter Safety Course if their not ready that instructor will readilly spot it, not issue the required certificate and tell the parent why and tell them bring the child back the following year.

  • LAH053 July 27, 2015, 2:15 pm

Whether or not to buy a gun for a son or daughter is entirely up to he parent. It is their responsibility if something goes wrong and their responsibility to properly instruct the child before letting them touch one. I was a career soldier and after that a Police Officer until line of duty injuries terminated my life long dream. I raised my children around guns and taught them early what can go wrong when children play with firearms without a parent around. They learned you cannot get that bullet back once it is fired and or undue the damage that it caused. Parents are also inherently responsible financially for damage and death caused by their child. My children grew up with a healthy respect for what damage a firearm no matter how small the caliber can do. I say buy away as the boy has been educated properly. It is no one’s business and responsibility but Mom and Dad’s.

  • mach37 July 27, 2015, 4:33 am

The video says it all, my comment not needed except to hopefully neutralize the comment by “Neutral Party” who is clearly NOT neutral. His hatred of conservatives and “gun-toting” is far from neutral – more lies by progressives.

  • Sherry July 26, 2015, 5:35 pm

I think the most important thing in this video is the father spending time with his son and the others that were parents saying they spend time with their children teaching them. If parents would spend more time with their children teaching them and being a parent, we wouldn’t have nearly as many issues as we have had. BTW, my father had me out in the country teaching me to shoot at a very young age also.

  • Daniel Hudson July 26, 2015, 3:05 am

While buying an automatic for a child is irresponsible on the parent, same with allowing them to attend Firearms Safety using an Automatic.

In the video the young boy was given a bolt action rifle, while he may lose his grip the round is already down range and there is no chance for a second to go off (Unless in a freak accident where the extra rounds explode in the magazine), so this parent is being completely responsible.

For the liberal douche bags out there, I learned at 8 on a bolt action bb gun who’s magnet was broken allowing me to load as many bb’s at the chamber could hold… And believe me, I got crazy, I would load 20-30 bb’s at a time just to see what could be done. But anyone watching me, was always behind protective surfaces, and I only shot at clay pigeons or paper targets on wood surfaces to absorb the bb’s. I was 10 when I fired my first .22, 13 when I fired my first 16 gauge 14 with my first 12. 16 with my first 30/30 and 17 with my first .44 Magnum.

So long as the parent is responsible and introduces firearms in levels, and always under PROFESSIONAL (I noted someone got shot by accident at a firing range) supervision… Than it is really none of your f-ing business. IF you choose to not raise your kids around fire arms that’s fine for you… I’m sure the burglars will say ‘Oh damn, this is a gun free house, I can’t rob it’ douche bags. Get your nose out of other peoples business.

    • Gryyphyn July 28, 2015, 2:50 pm

On the preview video regarding the range master who got shot it looked like he was trying to train a young girl how to shoot an Uzi or other compact machine pistol (using that term correctly as in press once fire many). She most likely lost control of the weapon due to finger lock surprise. I will say with absolute certainty that ~95% of people who are first introduced to automatic weapons fire at least 1 round more than they intended due to finger lock surprise.

With regard to the statement about automatic vs bolt action firearms I think you’re correct. I’ve been shooting since I was 4 and I started on a .22 bolt gun. I think it’s the best place to start. It is also imperative that the parent educate the child about proper gun safety. And, to be certain I’m not misunderstood, the correct age for a child to get their first gun handshake is as early as that child can demonstrate, with an unloaded weapon, all of the tenets of gun safety with no mistakes. Prior to that? I started getting an idea about recoil by bracing my hand on my dad’s shoulder when he shot his Parker-Hale 7mm Rem Mag. One trip from standing to on my back was enough for me to understand I wasn’t big enough to handle larger weapons and that I had damn well better respect them!

I don’t beleive peoples rights should be restricted. I love how liberals want EVERYTHING FOR EVERYONE except guns…. And conservatives want to RESTRICT EVERYTHING FOR EVERYONE except guns. There ideals are totally flipped on this subject. Misconceptions on both sides. Humanitarian efforts and fear are used to sway libs(such as ridiculous studies and statics, a lot like faked marijuana research in the 60s) while family value, occasionally christian values, n a retrogression back to a better America sway conservatives. Making drugs more restricted and illegal really helped out addiction in the country, right? When abortion was illegal before roe v wade NO ONE had clandestine abortions or anything. Duh! N same with pornogrphy, way back when. Ohh, prostitution is completely eradicated right? It’s not like alcohol prohibition spawned the biggest crime syndicate in recent history or anything. We all know restricting actions that don’t harm people is pointless. Less than %10 of crimes are committed with LEGAL guns, so why restrict LEGAL guns but not INCREASE penalties for illegal firearms? It’s not like any polatition has ever been caught in a gun scandal, or even drugs?!(Iran Contra) Conservs see it in gun control and Libs see it in social welfare. They are just too blind by HES RIGHT WING IM LEFT WING cry cry, bitch bitch, like a bunch of high school kids. Weather its a woman’s choice on abortion or a parent or person perchasing a firearm for himself or child, it is no ones business. I’ve been shooting handguns since I was 7, .22 lever actions before that. I only target shoot and collect, but I was taught to respect guns and practice gun safety from an early age, no matter the caliber or even if it was an air rifle. Respect goes along way. I believe immigration laws are dumb, this country was built on cheap labor from slaves to Far Eastern and Irish and Italian people. The government has still not paid the people forcefully relocated (Potawatomi Trail of Death, Choctaw Trail if Tears) to ‘reservations’, for their land, but insist on making laws about people entering ‘their’ country. My native heritage could play into my thoughts on the federal government, and living in IL hasn’t helped me trust my state, haha. I don’t support big government or war, from war on drugs to international policing. I support the sacrifice troops make for my country, but not the corrupt institute some seem to uphold higher than the oath they take to uphold the constitution. I do believe the 2nd amendment is there to protect us against foreign n domestic unconstitutional and inhumane treatment of citizens of this country. Militias were a huge part of the American Revelation, and those militias and our founding fathers would be considered a threat to the Crown, much like ‘national security’ threats today. I believe war is necessary, to fight against domestic tyranny, to stop genocides. But not to police countries, station and occupy said countries with imperialistic intentions(overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii by US Marines). I respect cops, but I don’t value cops lives more than citizens. Why should an officer put his life above those he swore to protect. To me it’s a disgrace seeing an officer killing or brutally beating citizens that our children die on the front lines to protect from. I believe unlawful arrest should be defended to the death (as seen in the Magna Carta, the cornerstone of the US Constitution). I believe people are so blind by a single thought or opinion they think by considering something else they completely disregard their own beliefs. Two Party systems are the death of democracy. So you guys can keep picking sides while the lobbyist and CEOs pick apart your country. They LOVE when you guys bicker and divide. Then you don’t notice the $100 billion CORPORATE welfare (twice the budget of social welfare), or how the last amendment to our constitution is constantly ignored by Congress who get full salary for life as retirement, or the UN sanctions on this countries drone program for killing civilians, some of them United States citizens.
