Washington Post Fact Checks Obama’s ‘Easier to Buy Guns Than Books’ Lie

At the memorial service for the slain Dallas police officers on July 12, President Obama outright lied about the relative ease of purchasing firearms in the United States.

During his speech, Obama said the following to those in attendance, “We flood communities with so many guns that it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than get his hands on a computer or even a book.”

Now, I know I don’t need to tell you that that is absurd, but I figured I’d share a bit about what The Washington Post had to say on the matter.

This is a catchy talking point that people obviously paid attention to, but it doesn’t make much sense. Literally speaking, not all states allow people under 21 years old to buy a handgun. And as far as we know, there’s no minimum age or a background check required to get a book or use the computer for free at a public library.

The White House noted that in the context of the speech, Obama was speaking about the lack of opportunity and ready access to guns in many communities, particularly lower-income areas. It’s accurate to say there are communities that lack education, employment and health-care resources. And it’s fair to say that in some communities, there is ready access to illegally obtained guns for teens who can get them easily from a fellow gang member, friend or a family member — perhaps without even having to leave their home or their street.

But the president can make that point without resorting to such an exaggerated claim based in no real statistics, and which does nothing but distract the public.

Consequently, The Post awarded Obama’s statement with “three Pinocchios,” which means, in part, that it contains “significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions.”

While it’s great that The Post called him out for his B.S., the reality is that the damage is already done.  Enough unwitting folks have already heard that phrase and thought to themselves, “Wow, Obama’s right, we need to do something about this gun problem!”

You’ll recall that Obama’s lies have worked for him in the past.  Probably the most notorious example, “If you like your [healthcare] plan, you can keep your plan,” a pitch he used, probably, hundreds of times when selling Obamacare to the American public.  Well, many people took the man at his word — as many as 4 million Americans received cancellation notices from their health care providers following the enactment of Obamacare — only to be gravely disappointed.

For the record, Politifact, a Pulitzer-Prize winning fact-check operation by The Tampa Bay Times, named “If you Like your plan, you can keep your plan,” the biggest lie of the year for 2013.

As it pertains to the gun community, arguably the biggest lie he told us was that he doesn’t want to take our guns away.  While it’s true he hasn’t actually taken them away, it’s not for lack of effort.  By supporting Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013,” the most recent federal legislation to ban black rifles, Obama’s shown his true colors on the matter.  As Feinstein stated, the purpose of the law is to “dry up the supply” of these weapons over time.

Nevertheless, Obama had the temerity to say the following at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Chicago last fall.

“First of all, the notion that I or Hillary or Democrats or whoever you want to choose are hell-bent on taking away folks’ guns is just not true,” said Obama.

“And I don’t care how many times the NRA says it. I’m about to leave office. There have been more guns sold since I have been president than just about any time in U.S. history. There are enough guns for every man, woman and child in this country,” he continued.

“And at no point have I ever, ever proposed confiscating guns from responsible gun owners. So it’s just not true,” said the president.

That’s such a bald-faced lie.  Obama’s whole refrain about “weapons of war not belonging on our streets” is just another way of saying you or I shouldn’t own black rifles.  If Obama could take our guns away, he would.  Same with Hillary.  In fact, Hillary’s endorsed an Australian-style mandatory buyback scheme while on the campaign trail last year.  So yeah, Obama is lying yet again.  Both he and Hillary are hell-bent on taking away our guns.  Don’t be fooled by their false rhetoric.

When we go “gunless” you can expect Antifa and others to have their unlawful share and able to call in a crowd burning shops and stores, next your neighbors house. Next you’re in the street-they have-your house living in it.

We are inching toward Anarchy. The government is hell-bent on maligning the President, ignoring the threat that the invaders pose. THOUSANDS A MONTH-NOT ALL HISPANICS ARE invading our country, ARE AWARDED BENEFITS I, AS A CITIZEN DON’T HAVE. The “children” are gang members, under 18-setting up drug distribution centers nationwide. So called families rent children to get asylum and free rent, food stamps.Once here these “families are subject to MS 13 and dozens of other unlawful enterprises. They send people here and have “relatives” for them to stay with once across the border. Once across they disappear with false documents that flow off Mac computers at cut-rate prices. We are becoming Mexico-these immigrants bring the same mental concepts that made their life allegedly so miserable somewhere else.

All politicians on both sides have said stupid things. Bush the senior said “Read my lips, no new taxes” Obama “If you like your doctor and health plan, you can keep it”.
Pelosi “We have to pass it, so we know what’s in it”. Clinton “I did not relations with that woman”. Before these morons get entrenched as career politicians we need term limits to prevent these types of stupidity and corruption. Politicians are some of the most dumbest and crooked people on the planet.

Here’s the thing – Obama didn’t actually lie here. Not only does he think you and I are too stupid to know what’s best for us and our freedom, he is also a very skilled manipulator-in-chief, and is counting on the good-nature of the US Citizen to enable him to disarm everyone except his own jackboots (like the ones that descended on the ranchers out in the mid-west over a Land-Management dispute.) In that case, an armed response by a group of citizens who were willing and able to stand their ground scared the piss out of these goons. Now they see the disarmament of America as paramount in their progress and plans. And again, he never actually lied. See – Obama just said that it was easier to “get a gun than a book,” but didn’t qualify that with anything in context – so he isn’t really lying, and he figures you’re too stupid to see the difference. You inferred that he meant a legal purchase, because that’s the only logical meaning – which is what he wanted you to do so you would support his “common-sense” gun confiscation. Because a disarmed America is better for him and his thugs and cohorts called the Democratic Party. I really do believe that many Democrats are well-meaning, and either horribly misinformed or just plain evil people, but they are still killing this country and hurting America and her very soul. 8 Years of Obama and Hillary dominating the news, and I have never been more embarrassed by my own country’s leadership, let alone how Women are being represented in Hillary. If this is our very best, we are doomed.

In the immortal words of that FLAMING LIBERAL OBAMA & HILLARY FINANCIALLY SUPPORTING MAROON: Tom Hanks who I believe is really FOREST GUMP in real life, regarding Obama’s statement: “STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!”

  • Mike July 22, 2016, 10:06 am

Sheeple will say “Wow, Obama’s right, we need to do something about this gun problem!”. Rational people will say “Wow, Obama’s right, we need to do something about this education problem”.

Crickets Chirping…. Funny, whenever I mention the Democrat’s true intentions on gun control, someone posts back that I’m being a fear monger, and that no one is after our guns. The facts don’t lie. Where are you now?
