Vertx’s new Gamut 32L gives you fast, discreet CCW access, real laptop protection, and a cavernous, organized interior while staying invisible in public. It’s a stealth hauler that actually works hard.

Meet the Vertx Gamut 32L: Covert Carry With Room to Work

Earlier this week, Vertx announced a new lineup of backpacks called the Gamut series. The Vertx Gamut series are, for lack of a better word, covert tactical backpacks that are designed to blend in and not draw attention. I’ve been testing the largest version and think it’s a top contender for everyday carry, especially if you already live out of a backpack.

Top 9 Features I Actually Used

The Gamut 32 Liter is what I’ve been testing, and it has more features than I can even list here. For that reason, I’m going to just tell you about the features I like the best.

  1. The CCW compartment is completely discreet and features a huge Rapid Access Pull Tab that makes it easy for my giant hands to open the zipper and get inside the compartment quickly.
  2. I love the luggage passthroughs that allow you to place this backpack on your rolling luggage when traveling securely.
  3. The laptop compartment is well separated and protected from the CCW compartment. You never have to worry about opening a compartment and accidentally showing your weapon or tactical gear while doing normal civilian things.
  4. Concealed webbing on the back panel that gives a ton of carabiner or tie-down points without screaming “tactical”.
  5. Tons of pockets and organizer compartments mean everything can have its own place and not just get thrown in together. These compartments all feature mesh pockets, gear slots, elasticized loops, and loop panels for Tactigami or whatever else you run.
  6. All of the Gamut bags are stupid light. If you’re carrying a bag everywhere you go, the pounds add up fast. The biggest version, the one I tested, only weighs 1.62 lbs, and the smallest backpack in the line weighs in at just 1.3 lbs.
  7. The water bottle pockets actually fit my massive two-liter bottles. Something no other pack I own will handle.
  8. The CCW compartment comes set up with a large BAP strap that lets you lock your holster at the perfect height and angle for a fast, consistent draw.
  9. Inside the CCW compartment, there’s a hidden velcro-close sleeve at the bottom for a ballistic panel or plate. It doesn’t rob any space from the rest of the bag, and you can still use every other feature like nothing’s there. It’s really slick.

The Rapid Access Pull Tab is genius and can be moved to a different zipper, but makes opening the concealed carry compartment very fast!

The laptop compartment is quite large and well-protected.
Vertx Gamut 32L concealed webbing tie-down points on rear panel
The webbing isn’t very obvious, but it’s all over and gives some great attachment points.
Vertx Gamut 32L interior organizer with mesh pockets, elastic loops, and slots
Lots of small compartments and places for stowing first aid, knives, flashlights, extra mags, or anything else you might need to carry.

This is the only backpack I’ve seen that will handle my massive water bottle.

The bap strap allows you to stow your holstered weapon in whatever location and angle you’d like inside the compartment. Shown is the Archon Type B with C&H Precision optic and Blackpoint Tactical holster.

On the left of the image, there’s a hidden compartment that is designed to take a body armor insert or plate. Combined with your laptop, it should be pretty effective.

Final Take: Covert Outside, Capable Inside

The Gamut line includes two sling bags and three backpacks in different sizes. I can’t emphasize enough how well thought-out this whole thing is. Vertx has been doing this for a long time, and the new Gamut is hands-down the best bag they’ve ever made. It’s the perfect blend of covert tactical for the guy who wants to stay prepared without looking like he’s about to clear a room.
