When it comes to the subject of lasers for handguns, you would be amiss in not mentioning Crimson Trace. One of the pioneers of the industry, the company has spent more than two decades refining and downsizing the technology of aiming lasers for firearms until they have become small enough for even pocket-sized pistols.

One of the benchmarks of this effort was the Laserguard introduced by the company in 2007. Designed specifically for compact and subcompact handguns, the design clamped around the triggerguard area and offered the Crimson Trace “Instinctive Activation” button under the rear of the triggerguard. Now, the company has taken this design to the next level with the Laserguard Pro.

The Laserguard Pro is new for 2016 and currently available for the Smith & Wesson Shield series of pistols. Available in either red or green laser variants, the compact system features a 150-lumen LED white light and features the same Instinctive Activation button system for simplified use. The Laserguard Pro features four modes of operation, (laser plus light; laser plus light, strobe; laser only; or light only) a master on/off switch, user-adjustable windage and elevation, and two hours of battery life.

While the Laserguard is currently available for the Smith & Wesson Shield, Crimson Trace plans to offer variants for the Springfield Armory XD-S  and the Glock 42  and Glock 43 pistols.
