Oh, those crafty Finns. Apparently not content to just mop the floor with the competition in centerfire rifles, this year have introduced a rimfire called the T1x. How can I be so sure this is a winner since I haven’t shot it yet? It’s simple. The features are insane.
Impressions
Last year, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a T3X TAC A1, a centerfire rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. It took less than a week to become my favorite bolt action of all time. The accuracy and smoothness, complete with an absolutely outstanding trigger, were absolutely amazing. So much so that I kept the rifle, not something I normally do. What does that have to do with the new T1x rimfire? Turns out, a lot.

So the T1x is chambered in both 22 LR and 17 HMR. Nothing amazing there, though I remain a fan of .17HMR. It is the near perfect training round, and cheap enough to shoot every day if you have the time. What is different here, the T1x was built for a grown man. It features stock spacers that adjust the fit for children as well, but out of the box, a full sized adult is ready to rock and roll. But that isn’t the best part.

The best part is that the T1x shares the same action footprint as the T3X. Any stock or chassis that works for the T3X, will bolt right in the new 17HMR gun. So for short range or winter training, you are in for the price of a chassis. The trigger is also identical to the T3x, meaning user adjustable with a simple Allen key. The T3x trigger is my favorite all time, and it is going to be a winner in the rimfire world as well.
If you shoot PRS or any other bolt action rifle game, Tikka just dominated the field. The rifles should be available in coming months and will run you a little less than $500.

I have had one for a couple of weeks now. I have fired five five shot groups twice with two kinds of inexpensive ammo. Federal Automatch and Aquila SV.
Out of the ten groups of Aquila sv none have been larger than .60″ at 50 yards half of the ten can be completely covered with a dime and two of those five are cloverleafed at.18″
The Automatch didn’t fare as well holding four shots into decent groups but losing at least one shot and groups averaging .75″ Most a little bigger some smaller.
The weather has turned and as soon as I can get a decent day I look forward to getting out to the 50 yard line at 67 gun club with this rifle and a little better ammo.
I highly recommend this rifle.
Clay< like your reviews & articles ! I'm about to order a tac a1 in 6.5 . what do you see as the down side of swapping tikka chassis with t1x & will chassis accept a t3 270 win ? On another issue a good rifle shooting course out here on the left coast . I'm currently in Seattle , soon to retire back to upper Michigan Thanks Tim
I own 2 other Tikkas in .243 & 6.5 creedmore that are the most accurate rifles I’ve ever shot. Do a lot of rimfire silhouette shooting with a CZ 455 w/Lilja barrel and can’t wait to try a Tikka T1x. Most 22lr shoot well at 100 yds, but the real test is 200 and more. My expectations are that the Tikka will shoot as well as the CZ Lilja combination and the Lilja barrel alone costs almost as much as the Tikka rifle. We’ll see.
Having shot tikka center fires, their accuracy is amazing for any rifle let alone at their price point . If this rimfire is like the center fire there won’t be many rifles that will shoot with it. I will have to find one to see if it’ll shoot with my anschutz and cooper . At 499.00 it’s a steal.
Seems like every time you publish a new article, there is a new crown winner. Guess you have to be a rich man to own so many crowns. I agree that many new rifles today will shoot sub moa as build processes have improvement much like engines in autos to the point where anybody can make a winner, but to be the best of the best it’s far more about what it can do today than what it will be doing in 20 years
Only way to take the rimfire crown is to make it in .22 WMR.
All I can day is WOW – who needs to actually shoot this baby to know that it takes the rimfire crown – real workd accuracy testing is sooooo over rated. And Clay is absolutely right when he states that one of the biggest problems in finding a good rimfire is getting one that fits an adult
(other than the Ruger American, Savage, CZ and the rest of those “has beens”). Does anyone else feel like they just read an article on Yahoo News?????
My thoughts exactly, I don’t think I’ll turn my Ruger into scrap metal and kindling just yet……
Nice video Clay. I can only hope you worked your a** of at Shot Show and I can see everything. Most of the other blogs and sites where under whelming last week.
