Texas homeowner shoots intruder

Harris County, Texas, resident Quinton Wood heard a strange noise at his front door around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Wood, a postal worker on medical leave, was at his home resting when he heard his doorbell ring several times, followed by pounding.

“Then I heard a strong knock and I knew something was going on,” Wood told Click2Houston.com.

Alarmed by the noise, Wood grabbed his gun and called 911. However, during that time the suspect had entered through the front door and disappeared into the home.

“It was quiet, but I heard something and I knew he was in my house,” Wood said.

Suddenly, the would-be burglar confronted the armed homeowner.

“I asked him why he’s doing this and he said ‘I’m a thief, I’m a thief’,” recalled Wood.

The suspect approached Wood, ignoring his commands to stay put leaving him with no other option than to engage the intruder.

“I kept telling him to stop and get down,” Wood said. “Then everything went bad.”

Wood shot the man in the chest, said police. The suspect was airlifted to a local hospital where he is expected to recover from his gunshot wound.

Wood was not injured. But he was clearly distraught, as the incident brought back to mind an earlier occasion four years ago when his home was burglarized.

“Four years go by and I thought I was getting my peace of mind back,” Wood said. “Then today happens.”
