Avid hunter Ted Nugent and former U.S. Rep. Allen West visited the scene of Thursday’s shooting in Lafayette over the weekend, reports the local media.
The two men, both strong supporters of the Second Amendment were in town for the Louisiana Outdoor Expo at the Cajundome.
Given their position on gun rights, Nugent and West were asked about whether or not gun control would have played a factor in mitigating or preventing the incident that left two dead and nine others injured.
“What could have been different is if the person who obviously displayed some mental illness (shooter John Russell Houser) was not able to freely travel across our country,” said West. “I don’t think that a gun just jumped up by itself and did what it did. I think there was an individual and that person is responsible for his actions.”
Nugent, meanwhile, said it was too soon to jump into the debate over restrictions on firearms.
“I think it’s inappropriate to even approach that subject,” Nugent said. “I think it’s all about prayers for victims and their families and showing respect for the community. I don’t think we should be getting in to hardware. I think we should talk about heart-ware.”
However, not everyone reacted well to Nugent’s remarks. Ladd Everitt, from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, had this to say about the motor city madman.
“What does is say about the National Rifle Association leadership–and their rank and file–that this virulent racist is still sitting on their Board of Directors after 20 years with no movement whatsoever to remove him?”

Why does Ladd Everitt call Nugent a racist? Oh, yeah, when a liberal has nothing to argue with, or no other facts, they always try to paint someone as a racist. That ignorant fool probably doesn\’t even know what a racist is.
