There’s more open country and public land within driving distance of Ely, Nevada, than the naked eye can take in. From rolling hills and a sea of endless cedars to the vast horizons of sage flats, it’s perfect country for coyotes. It was also perfect for putting two of Remington’s newest firearms to the ultimate predator hunting test. On a two-day hunt, we’d be using two modern takes on Remington classics—the 870 DM Magpul & the Model 700 Magpul.

Remington has had some mild successes on the handgun front, and several debacles. I know all about those debacles, I came off the top rope over the RP9, and I stand by that decision. Big Green and I might’ve had a difference of opinion over that, but they didn’t hold a grudge. And I am glad, because this week we are taking a look at something that is an unmitigated success.

The company, headquartered in Madison, North Carolina, owes $950 million in near-term loans and bonds due in two years or less.

Remington is announcing a new Model 700 bolt-action rifle with a custom-style modular precision chassis chambered for .260 Remington, 6.5mm Creedmoor and .308 Winchester.

Remington is now shipping their newest double-stack 1911 to stores now. That’s not all as the company is working on a new series of magazine-fed shotguns.

It’s a banner day for pump shotguns.

We have waited a long time for this. Today, I am happy to report about the greatest leap forward in pump shotguns I have seen in my lifetime. This miracle of engineering is named the Remington 870 DM (Detachable Magazine). This has been a long time coming, and I am beyond excited to see it come from Big Green.

Why do I want a sawed-off shotgun, a tiger skin run, and a moonshine still? Mostly because the government tells me I can’t have them. At least not without some serious hoop jumping. After all, anything is an option if the price is right. But for us mortals, we don’t have thousands of dollars and lawyers on call. Good news. Remington has solved one of those problems for us this week. At least in a new gauge, they did.

Remington’s leadership is getting a shuffle after two of the company’s top executives resigned during the course of this month.

The Big Five, or Dangerous Seven, or whatever you prefer to call the collective of African game animals that can easily end your life certainly gets the lion’s share (pun fully intended) of the spotlight, but the plains game, or more properly put, the antelope species, are much more abundant and affordable. Much has been written about the proper guns and cartridges for African hunting, but it seems there is still considerable confusion about what is needed to effectively hunt the lighter African game.
