The U.S. Marine Corps has rolled out a new initiative aimed at sharpening the marksmanship and combat readiness of its forces.

Ah, the classic EOTECH 512. It is perhaps especially fitting that we have one in for testing, since it was such a star during America’s longest war. EOTECH was an instant hit with the US Military and came to the attention of many of us when the GWOT started in 2001.

The USS John S. McCain’s commanding officer, Cmdr. Cameron Yaste, became a subject of online ridicule after a photograph showed him holding an rifle with its scope mounted backward.

“He was carrying a 1875 lever action British rifle,” Kennedy noted. This event led him to hang the rifle in his office, not as a war trophy, but as a reminder of the profound consequences of war.

“You have to [shoot] immediately because the wind changes constantly,” he said.

“The inventory of parts reads like a who’s who of the 1911 aftermarket business. In fact, the list is so diverse that it appears as if the Marines flipped through Brownells’ catalog and took one of everything,” according to an article about a new Marine Corps purchase of M1911 upgrade parts that American Handgunner published in 2002.

The initial delivery of 7,000 pistols is complete and soldier fielding of the C22 is in progress to replace the Browning 9mm adopted in 1944.

The military has expressed concerns for the future of recruitment following a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report stating the US is currently facing an epidemic of childhood obesity.
