“I’m actually a vegetarian,” she admitted. “Studying wildlife ecology, though, I gained a better understanding of how we’re managing wildlife, and hunting is an effective way to do that.”

Decline in Hunting Poses Serious Threat to Conservation Efforts
BY Jordan Michaels Published: March 26, 2018 { 15 comments }Sabatti Rover Tactical – A .308 Powerhouse w/ Unique Multi-Radial Rifling — Full Review
BY Clay Martin Published: February 23, 2018 { 21 comments }Sabatti is a new brand to me, though it is far from new to firearms. They have been in the gun business for 400 years, an unbroken line of smiths from father to son, with no interruptions. That is a pretty big deal considering most of us, me included, couldn’t tell you how exactly our ancestors arrived on the continent.

Nikon’s New LaserForce Range-Finding Binocular: Quality rangefinding Binos for under $1,000
BY Aram Von Benedikt Published: February 21, 2018 { 4 comments }I still remember the moment. A package arrived at my remote home amidst the rough, high-elevation mule deer and elk habitat of my youth, dropped casually on the porch by the United Parcel Service driver. We lifted it, my brother and I, to a place of honor on the kitchen table, and carefully removed the contents from the packaging. Dashing to the back porch we pointed the new marvel at a distant hillside and exclaimed with glee at the result. It was the first laser rangefinder we owned, and it changed our hunting and shooting lives.
Riton Optics — A Season Afield of Use & Abuse
BY Phil Massaro Published: February 21, 2018 { 0 comments }I love new toys. While in the hunting and shooting world there are many tried and true brands and models, I’m always eager to give new stuff a try. Riton Optics is most definitely the new-kid-at-school in the optics world, but that’s not always a bad thing. Founded by a team of veterans – of [...]
Field to Table: 3 Unique Ways to Make Venison Chili
BY Spencer Neuharth Published: February 21, 2018 { 12 comments }By now, most hunters have their own “secret recipe” for venison chili. Sometimes, though, I think those secret recipes can be confused with boring – especially if it’s the same way you’ve been fixing chili for years.
Instead, look to trying one of these three unique dishes, which are probably unlike anything else in your cookbook. They’re sure to bring a different flavor, and maybe inspire you to change up that old secret formula.
Best Turkey Hunting Gear of 2018
BY Spencer Neuharth Published: February 21, 2018 { 0 comments }Turkey hunting gear can make or break a hunt. With gobblers having some of the best vision in the animal kingdom, and ears that can pick up details that humans can’t fathom, it’s imperative that hunters have the right equipment to get the job done.
Here is some of my favorite gear for 2018, which helped me harvest five turkeys just last season.
Best Entry-Level Rangefinder: Vortex Impact 850 — Full Review
BY Spencer Neuharth Published: February 18, 2018 { 1 comment }As Vortex’s entry level rangefinder, the Impact 850 outperforms its price point. As someone who does a variety of hunting, I look for diversity in my gear. I want equipment that’s going to function whether it’s spring or fall, archery season or gun season, and good conditions or poor. When it comes to a rangefinder, I’ll be looking for optics that can function for bowhunting deer, shotgun hunting turkey, and rifle hunting elk.

The Winchester Model 70 in .338 Winchester Magnum — A Classic Combination
BY Phil Massaro Published: February 18, 2018 { 19 comments }Winchester’s marketing slogan was quite a bold statement, but one that was not braggadocio. When the Model 70 was introduced – way back in 1936 – it represented what I consider to be the ultimate culmination of the American bolt-action hunting rifle. It had all of the necessary appointments: a strong action – closely related to the Mauser Gewehr 98 – with a reliable extractor, capable of handling the highest of cartridge pressures, a well-fitting stock, an excellent trigger and a three-position safety which would (eventually) work perfectly with a rifle scope.
