Blackhawk announced today that it has expanded its popular line of T-Series holsters with the introduction of its first Level 2 Compact (L2C) Light Bearing Holster compatible with the Glock 17 and Streamlight TLR-7 and TLR-8 pistol light.

Carrying your handgun every day sounds like a great plan when you’re a new gun owner. But once you get going you realize it isn’t as easy as you expected to find the right holster and belt to make carry comfortable and effective.

There are a ton of different holster materials to choose from ranging from leather to Kydex to hybrids to nylon. I have a love-love relationship with paddle holsters. Simply put, paddle holsters make it easy to carry and deploy a handgun. You can install a paddle holster easily, carry with stability and comfort, and draw and reholster with virtually no fuss. Granted, those attributes come at the cost of concealability, but that’s a pretty good trade-off.

My holster came with a retention strap, though a full cover flap is also an option if you’re really worried about protecting the pistol from the elements. For a backcountry gun, the extra security of the retentions strap is worth the slight penalty in speed. And if you need to get ready for the O.K. Corral, it is easy to move it out of the way.
