The Model 66-8 Combat Magnum lives up to the K-frame’s reputation. In my opinion, a .357 magnum is a good choice for self-defense, and I’d prefer to carry the .357 Magnum in a revolver like the S&W Model 66 Combat Magnum.

These guns might not be the best option compared to a custom, built-for-you rifle, but they give you a great place to start and make easing into competition easy. 

What’s still out there on the surplus market that won’t instantly drain your wallet? The definition of affordable is certainly broad, depending on who is speaking.

The LS Edge is the latest in a long line 509s and brings the gun to the world of long slide firearms. It joins the ranks of the Glock 34, the VP9L, and SIG X-Five series. Besides being a long slide variant, the LS Edge packs a number of desirable features that move it to the world of premium guns.

Used guns are a great way to shop for a bargain-priced self-defense pistol. As we accept more modern guns with modern features, like rails, optics, and ambidextrous controls, we can find guns that lack those features for a relatively fair price.

The PDP 4.5”, like all of the PD series, is a 9mm striker-fire, recoil-operated pistol with a polymer frame. The PDP checks a lot of boxes for a 9mm striker fire.

I love the P320. It’s become my favorite striker-fired, polymer-frame 9mm handgun. Part of that love is the fact I can instantly swap the grip out. I can use the stock P320 grip module, or I can get something fancy, like the subject of today’s article, the Mirzon grip module.

I really enjoyed shooting this pistol and I can’t wait for my 22suppressor to come in so I can complete the build.

While there have been multiple conversion systems out for varying pistols over the years, the B&T USW-G feels more durable and minimalistic than some of these other options.
