Trust your gut. If something looks wrong, get out and reevaluate.

One of my old partners had a saying: “The fastest way to turn a human being into a complete idiot is to put him behind the wheel of a car.”

What if the above happened and you weren’t armed because you decided to take a day off from concealed carry? The bad guys don’t take a day off and neither should you.

We all should have a line in the sand, so to speak, as to when we will get involved. I plan to make you think about all kinds of “what if?” situations and discuss plans and your individual line placement.

Amidst news of a murder-suicide plot in California the story of a concealed-carrier, a Boy Scout and a handful of survivors in Texas was largely overlooked.

Having been a first responder, I tell folks I can count on one hand the violent crimes I’ve stopped in progress. I was, for lack of a better word, a historian.

Compliance is usually the best strategy for surviving an armed robbery. Material possessions aren’t worth the loss of human life, and you’re unlikely to draw and fire if you’re already looking down the barrel of a loaded gun.

Let’s say you go with the option to draw your weapon and try to stop the crime in progress. Now the crook has a decision to make — comply or fight his way out.

Not an hour into the shift, I had my weapon pointed at a car full of gangbangers in a stolen car. It was the first of many adrenalin rushes.
