Why do I need a safe? This is a question that many gun owners ask. In my opinion, the answer is easy. Bad things happen to good people (and guns).

Having been a first responder, I tell folks I can count on one hand the violent crimes I’ve stopped in progress. I was, for lack of a better word, a historian.

You’re an adult, or at least you’re supposed to be, and act like one, as a functioning member of civil society.

Let’s say you go with the option to draw your weapon and try to stop the crime in progress. Now the crook has a decision to make — comply or fight his way out.

Not an hour into the shift, I had my weapon pointed at a car full of gangbangers in a stolen car. It was the first of many adrenalin rushes.

Like chain restaurants do with specialty burgers and house-made sandwiches, I’ve tried typecasting gun owners based on what gun they carry.
