Springfield Armory XD-E in .45 ACP: The Dark Horse of the Springfield Family – SHOT Show 2018

First up was the XD-E in 45 ACP. I have written a lot about the XD-E since it was first introduced in 9mm last year.

I affectionately call it the dark horse of the Springfield family because it is definitely not the first pistol that pops into mind when talking about S.A.   For those that dig the XD-E, they’ll argue that it’s the best pistol in the lineup.

Is there some sort of 12-step program for holster addiction? If so, I may need it. As I prepared to write this, I took a quick look my holster collection and would guess I own at least 100 different holsters.

Part of it’s just hoarding. But, in my defense, I do need a lot of them. I’m a bit of a gun slut, and a lot of my guns need different holsters based on the situation. I’ve been told admitting your problem is the first step.

But, what if I could buy one last holster for all my pistols?

Field to Table: Prepping Wild Game In the Off Season- Canned Antelope

Talk to a hunter about eating antelope and you’ll get a wide range of responses, from complaining that it’s foul and tastes of sage to praising it with the highest of compliments. It’s one of the few cuts of wild game that inspires such debate.

Personally, I love antelope, and have a hard time understanding the complaints from those who don’t.

It’s incredibly lean, with fewer calories than a wild turkey and less fat than a whitetail. This is a common criticism from hunters, but it should be noted that other ungulates like elk and moose are even leaner than a speed goat. Sure, it’s no slab of grass-fed beef, but it’s no vegetable, either.

Mechanical systems evolve over time. The earliest German Messerschmitt Bf 109 A fighter plane first flew in 1937. That remarkable aircraft sported a Jumo 210A 600-horsepower engine driving a fixed-pitch two-bladed propeller. Seven years later the Bf 109 G-6 carried a Daimler-Benz DB 605A-1 powerplant producing 1,455 hp turning a constant-speed variable-pitch paddle-geometry three-bladed prop. The G-6 was easily twice as capable as the earlier A model. The Nazis ultimately produced 33, 984 copies of the plane. Operational pressures exerted by full-bore combat on three fronts drove the Bf 109 to evolve over time.

There’s no real way to know what you or your firearm are capable of without adequate training. As Jim Mora so famously quipped after his football team suffered a blowout loss, “You think you know, but you have no idea.” And that’s exactly what you find as you start to train with others more competent than yourself — you were never aware of just how much you didn’t know.

Remember our coverage of the P210 last year? Me too. Followed immediately by Sig not shipping them. Catching up with SIG this year, they promised me they are both 1) real and 2) shipping right now. The new P210 is 100% American made, and sure to get you hot and bothered if you like target pistols. I still feel about it now exactly like I did at SHOT 2017.

New Israeli .308 Bullpup: IWI Tavor 7 — SHOT Show 2018

IWI is famous the world over for bullpup designs, and this year stepped out with Tavor 7, a feature-rich addition to the lineup. The Tavor 7 is chambered in 7.62×51, a first for IWI. The gun is obviously larger than the 5.56 Tavor series, going to a big boy caliber requires some additional materials. For the bulk though, you get a lot. The new Tavor 7 is only 3/4ths of an inch longer than the original model.
