Accuracy

The game of shooting is mostly mental, but what we practice the most are the physical elements, hoping that our mind goes along for the ride.

For years, MOA was the more popular of the two in the US, but now 80-90% of competition shooters are using mRad and (finally) more hunters are using mRad than MOA with 55% of Leupold’s sales being mRad.

I’ve done a number of my own gel tests with self-defense and hunting handgun rounds and watched ammunition company staff do many more of these tests.

The goal is perfection, but perfection in this game is unattainable. However, there is a way to ensure more grip-and-grins and fewer sob stories. 

Absolutely nothing else matters if we can’t hold the rifle steady.

This is how I set up a scope so it can receive the maximum reasonable amount of damage and maintain its zero.

“Inherent accuracy” is to the ammunition world what bigfoot is to the natural sciences: elusive, controversial, and possibly (probably) a myth.

Sometimes, to get a gun to function well or to shoot precise groups, a factory load can be found that yields better results than a different factory load. Fortunately, these days there are many factory choices for most cartridges.

There are many factors in any gun that have an effect on precision, and two guns leaving the assembly line, one right after the other, made with the same batch of components and assembled by the same people, can have drastically different precision characteristics.
