Stag Arms Piston AR-15 Model 8T + 3-Gun Model 3G

The new Stag Arms Model 8T comes with a 16-inch, chrome-lined barrel with a one-in-nine-inch rate
of twist. This is a side piston design, different from ARs with a standard buffer tube design. They tend to run cooler and cleaner, and most of the parts are still interchangeable. One of the most striking features about the carbine is the use of the Diamondhead VRS-T free-
floating handguard, which has a solid rail atop, but relatively smooth sides and bottom. So instead of
Stag Arms adding unwanted weight to the rifle, the company smartly decided shooters can decide if
any rails needed to be attached, and precisely where. Unlike most offerings from Stag, the 8T employs
a short-stroke piston system, but as is the case with all Stag firearms, it can be ordered in left- or right-
handed versions. Carrier tilt is minimized by the use of pads on the rear of the bolt and it comes with
Diamondhead flip-up sights, so it’s ready for the range right out of the box. Stag Arms has been a big
supporter of 3-Gun competitions and it continues that legacy with its new Model 3-G. It comes with an
18-inch, fluted barrel, free-floated handguard to maximize accuracy, six-position adjustable buttstock
and the company’s proprietary 3G Comp compensator to reduce muzzle rise and improve speed of
target reacquisition. You don’t need to worry about a gritty trigger, either, since it comes with a Geissele
Super 3 Gun trigger. MSRP is $1,459. And remember, Stag is the only manufacturer of lowers and uppers for left handed AR-15 shooters, and all of their models come in left hand. We hope to get an 8T in this year for a test and a field strip to understand how the thing works, but we already know the 3G and it rocks. If you are shooting 3-Gun or you are just looking for a tactical AR at an incredible value, these Stag complete guns are as good as many ARs twice the price.

It’s obvious to nayone with a brain that the government is buying up every piece of ammo being made and also doing the same with every “Tactical” looking weapon being made. It’s way past time that the manufacturers start selling to WE THE PEOPLE 1st ! I mean how much ammo does DHS, ATF, etc.. need anyway? Same goes for weapons! The government has warehoses full of both ammo and rifles/pistols just sitting there wasting away and the purpose of this is simple, to keep John Q. Citizen from getting his hands on the stuff! I challenge all manufacturers of rifles/pistols and ammo to STOP filling government orders 1st and, sell to WE THE PEOPLE 1ST AND THEN fill government orders with what is left over! Oh yeah, you can also go back to pre Obama BS prices as I know you have made more than enough $$$ off of the government sales. I guess what I’m saying is this, are you going to help your loyal fellow citizens or are you government lapdogs?

Just picked one up today. Walked into a small sporting goods store in Colorado looking for some 45 apc. Owner mentioned he just had come in on Friday. 1200.00 + tax out the door. Feels like I just won the lottery.

I just bought the 8t and so far I am happy with it. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet but it feels great in the hands. No price gouging where I got it, looks like Stag is putting more stuff out lately.

I wouldn’t even trust their estimates or what Stag says on their website. I ordered one of their products in early November when their website clearly stated wait time was “3 Weeks” and I still do not have it as of today. When it was 1 1/2 months past the order date I called them asking what the issue was and they said the lead time was if you ordered it directly from Stag and no through a distributor like RSR. I said my FFL dealer wasn’t aware of that nor does it state that on your website and of course no answer. Even sent a letter to the President (Mark Malkowski) and never even got a response or apology. Bad customer service!

Is it time to call the waaaaaaa-mbulance? What a bunch of petty bickering. All of you pissing and moaning that gunsamerica showcased Stag firearms, which is way backlogged with orders, so therefore what’s the point of reviewing them?

Cry me an effing river. What did you think was going to happen? Am I upset that there’s anywhere from 1-2 year wait (worse case scenario IMO) for some of Stag’s products? Yes I am, because I’m really wanting one of their 3G uppers. But guess what, I’m the one who decided to wait on buying one, and unfortunately the tragedy of Sandy Hood occurred. Like Obama getting re-elected wasn’t bad enough.

Here’s a thought: make a list of firearms each of us would like to try out that Gunsamerica has showcased, watch the vids of said guns they review, and keep an eye out at our local gunshops because you never know when one will show up. Don’t like the prices for guns and ammo currently? Then save your money, maybe sell some stuff that you don’t really want anymore, and wait for the time when prices become reasonable again. Will that happen “soon”? Doubtful, but whining about it isn’t going to change anything.

In response to all the previous & future malcontent commenters: Way, way, way back in the stone age before every one had personal computers with internet access, there were only printed firearms periodicals and catalogs to obtain information.

A new firearm, or new ammunition, or accessory, would be unveiled to a writer and usually 3 to 6 months would lapse by the time mention or review was in print. Here’s an example: The SHOT Show took place in January 1990 in Las Vegas, NV. In April 1990 the Guns & Ammo/May 1990 issue arrived with the article “SHOT SHOW REVIEW” by Kevin E. Steele, pages 12-20. On p. 12 the new “Glock .45 ACP Model 21 will be on dealer shelves by early summer.”

The summer, and the rest of the seasons, for 1990 came & went with FFL dealers ordering G21 and not receiving them. I had to wait, & wait, & do some more waiting until one day an FFL Dealer called about my request. I finally was able to obtain the new for then GLOCK 21 in mid-December 1993. That’s 3.75 years after first reading about it (April 1990) and just shy of 4 years when GLOCK first displayed at the 1990 SHOT Show (Jan. 1990).

Back then GLOCK faced fulfilling huge L.E. orders for the promising new .40 S&W in addition to the 9mm. The filling of L.E. firearm orders by manufactures, and meeting the demands of civilian market, became a daunting task. “Slick Willy” (former Pres. Clinton), his crony loonies, and the Leftist-Elitist news media only served to compound the publics demand for ALL firearm types & actions and ammunition.

Fast forward nearly 20 years later and what do we have now?
*A different POTUS that dusted off the ole Clinton “Divide an Conquer” playbook trying to pit gun owners of different factions against each other.
*A Xerox copy of same Clinton era crony loonies.
*Same U.S. Congress members who have become elderly & bitter and even more intransigent.
*A Leftist-Elitist news media that are not only even more despicable and biased, but reprehensible in cramming their agenda down our throats.

What’s different now is Mr. & Ms. America have decided “We won’t get fooled again”. That resulted in an exorbitant demand for modern sporting rifles, semi-auto pistols, magazines, & ammo, that it outpaced production capacity; even new bolt action .17 HMR rifles are on a 6-9 month back-order.

With everything that’s going on now calling/writing your legislators, patience, and faith helps in trying times like these.

      EAC – Very nicely put!

  • Russ January 22, 2013, 11:53 pm

Nice folks. It’s just my 2 cents but I hope that all you that took the time to type out your identical complaints at this writer that is doing his job, are spending equal time writing every politician you can find. In addition, your equal energy in attempts to educate the other side and especially those in the middle (and their kids) that can be taught to enjoy some part of our sport and culture is a huge step in securing our rights. This writer is reporting on new products at the worlds largest “new product” showcase held this week. SHOT show has been planned and manufacturers have invested huge amounts of money they can’t get back to keep putting the product out there, and writers have to keep writing. I would be willing to bet the manufacturers, the publications that report and the writers and other’s in their business are fighting and investing their money to fight the political attack we are under. I hope that each and every one you that took the time to complain on here is doing the same. It’s the only way we can survive intact to enjoy what we love. Don’t just complain, band together, join more organizations, and continue to spread the good (sensible) word. Then we will keep our rights, the supply will catch back up with demand and you will be able to get the new hot products we all crave.

  • Corey January 22, 2013, 1:13 pm

Yeah, nice review, sounds great, but what good does it do to review it if it’s not going to be available for over a year? Wasted my time…

  • Steve January 22, 2013, 1:06 pm

I never really understand the point behind piston AR-15s, it’s another piece of metal whacking back and forth. The thing that is good about the AR-15 is that the bolt is light so there is less disruption to your aim when you’re shooting it. It’s true direct gas impingement shoots more crap into the action, but there are two solutions to it – use clean burning powder (which you’re supposed to in an AR-15 anyway) or get a ZM weapons system upper or Para-Ordnance rifle (which uses the ZM system) which has a redesigned direct gas impingement system that stops carbon build-up in the upper, rather than using a piston.

For all of those arm dealers and manufacturers

Stag Arms Piston AR-15 Model 8T + 3-Gun Model 3G What a waist of everyones time to even post this Stag Arms . Should have started off saying this company can not get any guns made or sold for over a year left or right handed. Makes one think are they really even making guns any more Why post about something like this… We need current stories on guns we can buy today if we want. Please think of your readers before posting about a gun we want but then find out we can not buy.
    Sad Day

  • Dennis January 22, 2013, 10:16 am

I have to agree with many who posted before me. What the heck is the idea behind showing me something I won’t be able to get my hands on for over two years, by your own estimation (posted on Stags website).

It’s bad enough w are in a situation were we can’t get the rifles we want but now you are throwing this at us and telling us to just go to Stags site for more info. Oh, there’s more info there, it’s just not anything we want to see,

How about something that can help to maybe make your customer base feel a little better.

    • Administrator January 22, 2013, 10:19 am

Everyone had to go into SHOT with the plans we already had, as was explained in the email we sent last week. Nobody could have predicted that they would pick the two weeks before SHOT to launch an unprecedented attack on our 2nd Amendment freedoms.

    • Bob Crotti January 22, 2013, 10:43 am

Only thing to make you feel better at this point is that you can still get really old but very good S.A. firearms, e.g.- an SKS (AK-47’s predecessor) in very good condition for around $400.

Yeah, you have to go THAT far back in time (1950’s!!) to get a semi-auto rifle for under a grand!

Does anyone else wonder just how MANY guns are being made, imported to, and sold each day in the U.S.? I mean, think about it: EVERY manufacturer on planet earth that makes semi-auto’s is backordered for the next year! Multiply the number of gun manufacturers in the world (all presumably shipping to the hungry U.S. market) times how many each one can produce in a day, week, or month. Add to that the fact that every gun in stock – in stores and warehouses and ready to ship have ALL been sold in a matter of weeks too.

Taking it a step further, how many rounds of ammunition have been and are being made and sold?!! You can’t even get a box of cheapo .22 ammo any more, when just a month or so back you could buy all you wanted at Wal-Mart, Gander Mtn., online, etc. Imagine how many rounds of ammo can be manufactured worldwide in a day or week and that EVERY single one made for a S.A. weapon is being sold (again adding to it the warehouses and stores that were full of the stuff). Has to be in the BILLIONS.

      Mind boggling, isn’t it?

Never thought I would be so grateful for my little .22 plinker (and the few boxes of cheap ammo)!

  • kanoradodave January 22, 2013, 9:31 am

Stag isn’t the only maker of Left hand AR’s. It looks like Rock River has a pretty complete line up also in the 5.56 line.

  • Fred Wilmot January 22, 2013, 8:14 am

    Hello

What is the availability of the stag arms model 3g and the price and can the gun be shipped to Conn.

  • Greg January 22, 2013, 5:31 am

While I appreciate the review, like the Stag AR-15 style rifle, they are two years behind on orders.

WHAT I would like to see, from your reviews, is CURRENTLY IN STOCK rifles and manufacturers that are not so far behind, or how about a column on manufacturer back logs for orders and include it in your news letters.

It irritates me that I am working overseas at the moment and unable to get my hands on something… now that the worlds greatest salesman has caused a run on guns…. obama.

    Peace.

    • Bob Crotti January 22, 2013, 10:25 am

Sadly for the consumer and those who serve us (magazines, firearms dealers, etc.) – but happily for firearms manufacturers -there is nary a gun available to the public that isn’t either a shotgun or hunting rifle. ANYTHING even resembling “tactical”, or for that matter, anything having any capability whatsoever of dispensing more than 7 to 10 pieces of lead with one cocking is “backordered” and can only be had at a premium price via private sellers and online auctions.

Indeed, thank the Obama administration (and all your friends who voted them in) for the latest “bubble”. Once things settle down, maybe as with the .com and stock market and real estate bubbles, there will be more guns than buyers out there, but for now… If you’ve got ’em, hold ’em (or sell them at a ridiculous profit). If you don’t, pay a ridiculous price to get one or wait till those flooding the market now become “safe queens” and dust collectors and get yourself a good deal.

Meanwhile, tell your congressperson to support the 2nd amendment and acknowledge that guns, as a product, are more than sufficiently regulated already.

  • Weasel January 22, 2013, 5:10 am

They don’t have any rifles available, so WTF is the point of this?
    From their site:
CURRENTLY WE ARE OVER 1 YEAR BACK ORDERED ON RIFLES, UPPER HALVES, LOWERS. UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE NOT TAKING ORDERS FOR THIS ITEM AT THIS TIME, IT IS BEST TO ORDER THROUGH YOUR LOCAL DEALER WHO CAN ORDER THROUGH OUR DISTRIBUTORS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.

    • john January 22, 2013, 1:38 pm

pretty much , reviews are worthless without products available

  • John January 22, 2013, 4:57 am

Nice product.Good luck actually getting your hands on one.Per website Stag is backed up on orders for 2 years and not currently accepting new orders.
