SPRINGFIELD, MA., (7/11/2023) – Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select: SWBI), a leader in firearm manufacturing and design, today announces the release of the new M&P22 MAGNUM pistol, chambered in 22 WMR.
This latest addition to the M&P series is all about bringing more. More capacity, more reliability, and more features. Its internal hammer-fired design, paired with the TEMPO gas-operated barrel system, keeps components locked in place until the bullet passes the gas port, increasing performance.
With a staggering 30-round capacity, the full-size polymer frame M&P22 MAGNUM ships with two magazines so you can spend less time reloading and more time training. It comes with a fiber optic front sight, black notched rear sight, and is optics-ready, allowing you to direct-mount most of the popular micro red dots available today.

It’s still a rimfire– hard to make it a reliable defense firearm, but target and game might be OK.
I watch a video on Youtube of this sweet .22 mag. The guy demonstrating used three different ammos. This gun hit the target from 110 yards without fail. I was impressed with the shooter and this S&W. It did have some hiccups with feeding, just not enough to stop me from wanting one. If I didn’t live in CA I would already be waiting to pick mine up. Unfortunately this gun does not meet the ridicules CA laws. At least for now. If the lawsuits are won by us the pro gunners, I will be first in line to buy one of these.
Auto mag had a 22 mag pistol over 30 years ago but it was all stainless steel, not alotta plastic. Plastic pistols are 50 + years old (hk vp70). Many people complained about the faults of the keltec and its cousin, so if s&w has figgert how to Make It Work, Every Time, its not a clone
It appears S&W reinvented the Keltec PMR30 and raised the price a couple hundred dollars.
No threaded barrel? That will hurt sales.
I wonder if these will be able to accept a suppressor unlike the Keltec.
Smith and Wesson copies Kel-Tec
If by copy you mean vastly improves the aesthetics and makes things not easily confused for toys, then yes.
There are a couple of reasons I never purchased the Kel-Tec; first – when I contacted Kel-Tec about a threaded barrel they informed me it could NOT be used with a suppressor. Second – when I actually looked at one it appeared flimsy and poorly made to me.
I’m still not interested if you can’t use a suppressor, but I have no doubt this .22 mag will be better made than the Kel-Tec.
My friend had one and it was a piece of crap. The frame cracked when it was being fired.
