SIG’s new P210 Standard. An update of the P210 Legend, and made in the USA.

In 1949, SIG made the P210, a fine gun for the Swiss army (the army called it the P49). It has been called the most accurate gun in the world, and one of the latest iterations, the P210 Target, is a good choice for target shooters. Now, they’ve released the P210 Standard, which pays homage back to the original model and is an updated version of the P210 Legend. This one is worthy of its heritage.

The P210 is a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an 8-round magazine. It’s single action only, and this latest model is made in the USA.

The P210’s slide moves inside the frame rather than on the outside.

The P210 is all machined stainless steel, whereas the P210 Legend was carbon steel. One thing that sets it apart from many guns is that the slide rails are inside the frame, rather than on the outside of the frame. It’s machined to very tight tolerances and having the rails on the inside helps make it a very accurate firearm.

The ejection port is larger than on the Legend.

The beavertail has been improved and allows a high grip.

The lockup is tight and the ejection port has been updated to match what you’d expect from SIG. It’s still got beautiful walnut grips, and the beavertail has been improved. The front strap and trigger guard both now have checkering. The trigger guard is now more square.

Grips are checkered walnut and very classy with a satin finish.

The front strap is now checkered.

The trigger guard is checkered and now has a square profile, which really makes it look modern.

The trigger itself is the same crisp, precise trigger from the P210 Legend that was manufactured in Germany. The slide lock and safety lever from the Target version are included and are very easy to manipulate. The magazine release is updated from the original P49 and is on the grip instead of under the magazine well.

The trigger is crisp, and the mag release is on the grip instead of the bottom of the mag well as in 1949.

The slide lock and safety are carried over from the latest target model and are easy to manipulate. It’s single action only.

It ships with two 8-round mags.

The P210 Standard is made in New Hampshire.

It’s a good looking gun, and it feels great in your hand.

I handled the P210 Standard at the NRA show, and it feels really good. It’s a classic gun with updated styling and you feel the quality design and manufacturing. Of all the guns I saw at the show, it’s one that I’d most like to shoot (and own). MSRP will be under $1,300 and it comes with two magazines.

Please, produce the Sig P210 Super Target with 6” bull barrel in stainless. Bronze color or Cerokoke finish would be nice!

    Saw one on You Tube!

This is a modern version of the original. This version has a cast frame and cast internal parts. It has a nickle and dim chromed Phillips head screw holding in the fire control system rather than the original high quality tong and groove system. You can often find an “original” gun for less money than this cast steel hermaphrodite.

I got a little confused by the comments about striker fired and single stack. In regards to the P210, it is a single stack, hammer fired gun. I was fortunate enough to look at one earlier today, in fact. It has a great trigger and a good ergonomic feel. I would love to test fire one. Now, on the P365, those have a hybrid double stack mag that tapers into a single stack close to the top. It’s a genius design that gets more rounds in a small gun & they work. The 365s have great triggers too for striker fired guns. I did own a 365 for a time, but it was the most uncomfortable carry gun I think I’ve ever had. Now, before someone bites my head off, let me explain that gun didn’t fit me, nor did it accommodate the way I carry. It’s a great gun; it just didn’t fit ME. Perhaps if a better holster were available, I might have held onto it. Anyway, the 365 is probably a better carry gun for one who does not have love handles 😉 I’ve been a firearms enthusiast for over 25 years & I’ve always been a Sig fan. They’ve made great guns since their beginning & still do. By the way, I have seen one of those Browning High Power copies, and they seem solid, good slide to frame fit. The one I looked at needed a trigger job, but I just see that as a challenge 😉

What about the sights on the 210?

  • LG May 6, 2019, 10:05 am

Does SIG have any plans to manufacture and market this fine pistol with the conversion kit . A friend of mine owns said pistol that came in a nice wood box containing besides the 9mm, two conversion kits, in said box, one for 7.65×21 and one for 22LR.

So…any proof of this pistol’s accuracy? It seems to copy elements of the 1911A1….how accurate is the thing?

  • Michael May 6, 2019, 7:55 am

Question? Is this in any way a High Power clone? It seems to have some things in common. I would like to know from someone more knowledgeable than myself. I do like the looks of it……for a Single Stack.

    • MB May 6, 2019, 9:56 am

It’s not a single stack, and the only relationship to a Browning Hi Power is it uses the same ammo and same basic barrel mechanism designed by John Browning. This is a striker fired weapon, not hammer fired.

      • ks May 6, 2019, 10:31 am

It IS an 8 round, single stack magazine.

      • Patrick May 6, 2019, 6:21 pm

If you are talking about the 365, IT is a striker fired double stack. If talking about the P210, IT is a hammer fired single stack. I think some of us got cornfuzed with the double review. Just to keep things calm and smooth on here. Things can get heated on occasion.

There is a very accurate High Power clone called the Regent Br9. It has the classic style “round hammer” and is available in blue or stainless steel. I have handled one and they appear to have a high quality fit and finish, but I do not know how reliable they are. I believe that it is made in Turkey (but honestly the ones I examined look great). It cost about 1/2 what this gun or a nice “used” High Power would cost you.
