SIG Sauer Changes Their Warranty: Is This Good or Bad? (Video)

in Authors, True Pearce

Watch the video to learn about SIG Sauer’s newest policy change regarding their warranty. This unprecedented change should be the talk of the industry. Will others follow? How will this affect you and your purchases? Also, this covers thermal scopes, a serious directional change from the rest of the industry. SIG announced a new Thermal Clip-on scope that I have played with and that is the first consumer-grade thermal clip-on that is collimated (doesn’t have to be zeroed or rezeroed when switching between guns). This Warranty change is a big deal since the industry standard has been 4-5 years for thermals. Let us know in the comments what you think.

Burris (electronic) optics have had lifetime warranty for many years now. They were sold with a written warranty of 2, 3 or 4 years. I had two battery covers strip out several years into ownership. Burris said send them in, we cover all of them for life! I did send them in (their shipper, I believe) and they sent me new red dot sights. Years ago too.
I’m glad Sig is now doing this also.

This is great news from SIG! I now have a warm and fuzzy feeling that I haven’t had in many years.
    Thanks guys!

FWIW, My 365 is my favorite defensive carry gun, and I can carry anything. It is the best little handful of doom ever. This is coming from a die hard 1911 guy. Yes, I still have my 1911s, but they now spend way more time in the safe and less time getting aired out and shot than ever in my career.
My daughter Heather is a pro shooter and certified instructor. She turned me on to the 365, and boy was she right. Now that SIG has come out with the Legion version, she has one of those in her sights too.

Since I live in Texas and there are hogs aplenty, I have been interested in Thermals for quite a while… but the sketchy to non-existent warrantees from the manufacturers were cringeworthy. Especially after watching some buddies buy units from (non-Sig) mfgs and watching them go TU in one season, only to find out that they had little if any warranty support. Talk about buyers remorse!
Looks like there will be more SIG products in my stable soon.

    Thanks for stepping up,
    Kevin “Mad Dog” McClung
    Knifemaker/Gunsmith

PS: Any chance of a thermal that I can mount on my 365? 😉

Notice he said it does not warranty counterfeit product. I ended up with four counterfeit red dots a couple of years ago. Sig support helped me out a great deal with that problem. Apparently at the time it happened to me there was a lot of that stuff on the market. I don’t know if this continues to be an issue but the the fact he mentioned it insinuates it may be. Take care who you buy their stuff from and be careful when the price looks too good to be true. They make great products and have a fantastic staff that can help if you have questions about something that seems off about a Sig item.

Why not just tell us about the warranty changes ? I am not interested in watching the video .

  • JG July 15, 2024, 11:56 am

You’ll need it because their guns (and everything else) are COMPLETE garbage!

I tend to agree. My last four consecutive purchases of Sig pistols, all had MIM parts breakage in less than 500 rd. One arrived with a broken MIM part. Another only lasted just under 50 rd…my P226 Legion SAO. That was many years ago. All four pistols were at or above the $1000 mark. Bought all four over a 6 month period. Sig fixed them all of course, but for me, no new (approx last 10+ years) Sig products. I have several older Sig pistols, some W. German guns. All of the older Sig guns are excellent for me. But, no more new Sig guns for me.

Doesn’t matter to me cause I’d never buy a Sig

The key will be how fast they make good on the repair/replacement. If it takes weeks or months to get a remedy, then it’s not as valuable as say 5 days.

You couldn’t get yourself to explain the warranty changes? The link provided just takes me to their website, and the only warranty information I could find requires registration of a firearm to get the details. This is no help, and makes your non info a waste of time.

  • Eugene Lempert July 15, 2024, 9:02 am

they have not updated their own terms and conditions to reflect their updated warranty on the website. For the lifetime of the original purchaser, SIG SAUER agrees to correct any defect in the firearm for the original purchaser by repair, adjustment, or replacement, at SIG SAUER’s option, with the same or comparable quality components (or by replacing the firearm at SIG SAUER’s option)
in the video above it talked how Sig products are warrantied even if you got them from someone else.

Finally found a company that sells thermal and will warranty for life of product. I’m 68 and change my various gathering of guns and attachment for modern improvements so I can hand down.

  • Jim July 15, 2024, 8:59 am

Terrible article. Just state what the change is!

Considering Sig optics is 20 minutes down the road from Leupold and most of their employees were previously at Leupold, it makes sense that they copy their warranty.

  • Mike22-250 July 15, 2024, 8:11 am

Great move, you just sold a lot more scopes in the future

  • Cory Kittrell July 15, 2024, 8:06 am

One reason I’ve been purchasing Sig over Glock recently. Great products and service.
