SIG Sauer is doing a limited run of carry-size single-action P220 pistols for the Legion series. This special edition Legion pistol will only be produced in a single run of 500 handguns, making it one of the most exclusive Legion series pistol to date.

Chambered for .45 ACP, the P220 Legion SAO pairs a compact 3.9-inch barrel and slide assembly with a full-size frame. A single-stack design, the P220 is relatively slender and light, has an 8+1-round standard capacity and comes with three 8-round magazines.

“The introduction of the P220 Legion Carry SAO is both a unique and exclusive opportunity and brings several firsts to the market for our Legion series pistols,” said SIG’s Tom Taylor. “Most notably this is the first … carry size pistol [in] .45 caliber for a Legion series pistol.”

The Legion series includes a smattering of full-size P220 pistols in .45 ACP and 10mm Auto, but they have 4.4- or 5-inch barrels better suited for the nightstand, the range, or the field.

Like the name implies, these are single-action only pistols with ambidextrous manual thumb safeties. As Legion series guns they have a grey Tungsten finish with black controls and other components for a dark two-tone appearance. They also sport Legion medallions on the grips and other small cosmetic changes setting them apart from standard SIG pistols.

Built for use day or night they come with SIG’s X-Ray3 green dot U-notch night sights. The pistols are built on enhanced-style frames with an enlarged beavertail and a full-length Picatinny accessory rail.

The frames also feature square trigger guards with a slight undercut and fine checkering on the frontstrap to match the pattern of the G10 composite grips. They also come standard with flat-faced triggers and full-length steel guide rods.

Overall they measure in at just over 7 inches long, 5.5 inches tall and just 1.5 inches wide at the controls. Unloaded but including the magazine they weigh a hair over 30 ounces, which is light enough for all-day carry but not so light that recoil will be an issue while shooting.

Like all Legion series handguns, the P220 Legion SAO grants owners membership to the Legion club, with special offers, merchandise options and other benefits and rewards.

Legion series handguns command a premium price over standard SIG firearms, starting around $1,200 dollars for many models. For more information about these and the rest of the SIG Sauer catalog visit the company website.

Gorgeous – but no optics option? Epic FAIL! Not buying a gun today without that choice. The 1980s are gone.
