SIG Issues Safety Warning, Recall Notice for Certain Rifles

SIG Sauer issued a mandatory recall notice and safety warning Friday for certain rifles from the SIG716 DMR, SIG516 Carbon Fiber and SIGM400 Predator lineup.

The problem appears to be with the two-stage trigger that may have an “improperly heat-treated hammer” that could result in a “trigger malfunction creating a significant safety hazard,” according to the New Hampshire-based manufacturer.

SIG will replace the hammer and trigger assembly free of charge.  To see if your rifle is included in the recall, click on this link.

This recall does not affect any military or law enforcement rifles or any SIG MCX/SIG MPX products.

SIG warns that if you are affected by this recall, stop using the firearm immediately and follow the instructions on the website or call SIG Sauer Customer Service at 603-610-3000, option 1.  Make sure to have the serial number of the firearm available.

My son-in-law bought an M400 Hunter 20″ a few years back. I put a Geissele SSA-E in it for him. It has a metal receiver so probably no issues there.
Seems to be trouble with the polymer stuff lately. I have been shooting the heck out of some HK P9S polymers for over 35 years, 9mm and .45 so polymer isn’t the problem. Perhaps too much computer design and CAD programming etc? Old John Browning would start with a block of steel and grind and file prototypes. There has to be a sweet spot between the two methods which had been overtaken with excess computer designing.
Those who claim CAD saves time need to realize Browning could design and begin production in 60-90 days doing it his way. over 100 years ago. Just my musings.

I’ve owned Sig for over 30 years with no issues. Ones I’ve purchased in the last seven have had multiple issues and many returns to factory. The worst offender was the most expensive: P210 Legend. It went back three times. Now I don’t want to shoot it. From the slogan: “To hell and back reliability” to “To hell with reliability” Don’t make them pretty, make them work.

When you try to beat your competitors without extensive testing ,you most often get junk. It does not beat the others it only diminishes the proven products that you already have on the market. Most people will not see the good as clearly as they see the bad products.

Looks like Sig is falling apart. MPX problems, MCX recall, P320 recall, now this recall.

The hammer they sent me for my recalled MCX stated that it was made in India.

Remember when Sig was capable of making good guns. I do not remember Sig recalls….ever. Now they are all the time.

Back in the 80s Sig only made a couple of handguns and the Sig the Sig 550 rifle was still being imported. The handguns especially the 226 was second to none as far as quality. Same for the Sig 550. The 229 came out and also had a excellent reputation. Now days it appears SIG makes too many different types of guns where too many are ended up on the discontinued list or being recalled. Some are just plain dumb. Remember the diamond plated SIG 239? Then there is the advertising of a rifles that are suppose to be more modular then a set of lego blocks but no modular parts ever show up. Currently there is the p320 problem in addition to the latest recall mentioned in the article. Mabe they need to focus on making a few good quality gun models and not come out with a new model every month. I am not buying any more SIG firearms until they clean up their act.

Dang thats two recalls now in short order for Sig! Is it cause they are slacking now days and still charging premium prices? Or because they are being more honest than other companies and trying to preserve their good quality? I cant say because I cant afford their stuff. LoL I do like their designs though.
