Savage is adding a new style of Rascal to their catalog that shows American pride in addition to teaching new shooters the skills they need. The Rascal Red, White & Blue is star-spangled with patriotic American flag “camo” that’s sure to stand out at any range.
“It is our responsibility to help teach firearm safety to the next generation of American hunters and marksmen,” said Savage Arms Director Beth Shimanski. “But that doesn’t mean the tools we use to teach can’t be fun.”
“We’re proud of our American heritage and we’re showing that pride with these diminutive guns that are built to the same demanding standards as every other Savage,” she added.
The Savage Rascal is a single-shot bolt-action rifle chambered for .22 Long Rifle, and for shooters across the country, is a popular “first gun” to own. It doesn’t hurt that it’s an affordable design and even with the upscale finish the Red, White & Blue has a suggested price of just $223.
With real-world typically less than MSRP these should be available in stores and online for less than $200. The price includes the rifle with its camo-print synthetic stock with an 11.5-inch length of pull, adjustable peep sights and class-leading adjustable Savage AccuTrigger system.
Like all Rascals, the Red, White & Blue uses a cock-on-open design with a manual safety. Users can unload the rifle without pulling the trigger.

The Red, White & Blue weighs just 2.7 pounds, comes with sling swivels installed and it uses a 16-inch carbon steel sporter-profile barrel. Savage will start shipping these in August.
For 2020 Savage has announced pretty wide expansions of their popular product lines from top to bottom. Many of these include some pretty high-end products like their Renugauge family of semi-automatic hunting shotguns but also include their entry-level rifles and shotguns including their Axis II series, A22 series and B series rifles.
The Red, White & Blue is a fun surprise that will be sure to put smiles on faces of all ages. For more information about the Rascal line-up and the rest of Savage Arms’ products, head over to the company website.
I’ve got 2 of these. One for each of my daughters. The 12 year old has moved on to handguns, my 9 year old still loves the single shot Savage.
This gun is the best kids gun you can buy. It can’t even be compared to the piece of garbage Cricket. This cocks on opening like a real rifle. The sights are excellent. The trigger is excellent. And it weighs 2.8 lbs. So a child can practice shooting offhand with it.

Excellent!
A single shot .22 with great sights at a decent price. What’s not to love?
The only thing I see missing is a simple open rear sight as well – to fully round-out the teaching experience as on my old Stevens 66’s.
I see too many people handing kids detachable magazine, semi-auto .22s as their first rifle as well as introducing optics too soon.

Also – didn’t notice the sling-swivels.
Nice that a Dad doesn’t have to add those for his kid.
