In a surprising turn of events at this year’s Shot Show, Benelli has taken the spotlight with their latest breakthrough – the Advanced Impact Barrel System. Brett, a representative from Benelli, provided a sneak peek into this novel shotgun barrel technology during our interview.
According to Brett, the development team in Italy spent years applying principles from outside the firearms industry to bring about a revolution in shotgun barrel tech. The result?
A barrel system that not only increases velocity but also delivers a significant impact. Brett explained, “It’s a game-changer in a way we’ve never seen before.”
The Advanced Impact Barrel System boasts a wider diameter than standard 12-gauge barrels. It is showcased on models such as the ETHOS SuperSport, ETHOS Sport, and ETHOS Cordoba in Performance Shop variants. The key to its success lies in a complete transformation of the interior contours, creating a unique hourglass shape.

Brett compared it to having an “extra-long forcing cone that slingshots the shot out.” This design, while seemingly thicker, contributes to the barrel’s ability to generate more velocity and energy on impact.
The result is a shot stream that is more compact and uniform, promising 50% deeper penetration compared to standard models. Additionally, the chokes are longer for allowing better pattern adjustment depending on the situation.
Despite its seemingly complex technology, the new barrel system doesn’t add significant weight to the shotgun. Brett emphasized that the weight difference is negligible, while the recoil remains surprisingly manageable.
The performance boost includes a 21% increase in velocity at 30 yards, a 42% increase at 60 yards, and a staggering 77% increase in energy on target. For those who need the extra power to put down targets at distance, the new Benelli Advanced Impact Barrel System has got you covered.
These innovative shotguns are expected to hit the shelves in the first quarter of the year, with prices ranging from $3,000 to $3,500 depending on the model.
This new Advanced Impact Barrel System from Benelli is being touted as one of the most significant revolutions in semi-auto shotguns since the inertia bolt introduced in 1967.

I’m curious and asking to know if anyone has knowledge of this yet. I’m speculating this would increase chamber pressure in correlation with the increase push of the shot in the barrel to achieve the velocity and energy retention. In my opinion this could be a very good thing for those of us who have opted for gas cycled semi-autos over inertia because of the dilemma of light loads not consistently being effective to cycle an inertia bolt. Could it be if the increase in pressure increases recoil (even if perceived recoil is negligible) this potentially mitigates this issue and is another major win in this design? I am not at all concerned about perceived recoil. Shoot an over under for clay competition and it will cure you of that aching shoulder behind a semi-auto.
Interesting, I wonder if upgrade barrels for their other guns like my 1014 will eventually be made.
