Radical Firearms PDW Chassis for SIG P320s - SHOT Show 2019

The X01 Personal Defense Weapon Platform by Radical Weapons.

One of the cooler things I saw at SHOT Show 2019 was an offering by Radical Firearms.  Awhile back when SIG Sauer introduced the P320 series of pistols, they brought something to market that it would take people some time to fully realize.  That was the serialized trigger package.  Rather than having a serialized frame, slide or receiver, the trigger package itself is the “firearm.”  This, in turn, has been capitalized on by Radical Firearms with the introduction of the X01 (Gen2) Personal Defense Weapon Platform.

The X01 is a conversion/chassis utilizing your SIG P320 (minus the grip module).

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 12” L x 3” W x 9” T
  • Weight: 12 oz (24 oz with arm brace)
  • Compatible with full size, carry or compact Sig P320 or P250 slides (9mm, .40, .357 SIG)
  • Milspec 1913 Optic Rail
  • Rear Vertical 1913 Rail for Arm Brace, Buttstock or Sling Mounts
  • Ambidextrous Slide-Lock Charging Handle
  • Rear Dual QD Sling Mounts
  • Glass Filled Nylon & Stainless Steel Construction
  • MSRP: $439 – $489

The X01 is ultimately a chassis for your SIG P320.  But unlike other similar products like the RONI Pistol Carbine Conversion, the X01 doesn’t use the pistols existing grip or frame.  You open the top of the X01, drop in your SIG P320 trigger package, install your factory SIG slide and barrel, close it up and you’re ready to rock.

While I haven’t had the opportunity to fire the X01 yet, there are some design features I immediately liked.  First and foremost the fact that you aren’t using the factory SIG frame.  Not that I don’t like the SIG grip module, it is just the stacking of tolerances that I think leads to issues.

The Sig P320 trigger package drops straight into the X01.

By not using the grip module you have a number of advantages.  On the one hand you don’t have to deal with tolerances between the grip frame and the chassis.  The slide goes directly onto the X01 chassis.  Additionally because it doesn’t have to house the grip module, the overall package and design of the X01 is much smaller and more streamlined.

The X01 is offered in 2 different styles.  One is made for full size, carry or compact P320 slides while the other is specifically made for compact P320 slides with full size threaded barrels.  The latter model allows for the use of pistol suppressors with the chassis.

Depending on your needs, the X01 can accommodate pistol suppressors.

And depending on your needs, the X01 can be used as a “traditional” pistol, or with a folding arm brace or you can attach a stock to it if you want to go down the NFA road.  I’m looking forward to putting in some time with one of these in the future and seeing how it does.

The addition of an arm brace or stock adds a lot of stability to the platform.

This is a real game changer in my opinion. As far as triggers, SIG has several triggers which are simply parts of the serialized package. The triggers are not the serialized part now considered the receiver.
Why worry about the SBR and NFA regs when you could simply make 16 inch barrels available?
This package and a 16″ barrel would still cost much less than the AR pistol caliber carbines proliferating all over the place.

Will there be a 45ACP version?

How does this beat/bypass the SBR and ATF form 1 requirements? Does not look much different than my adding a rifle stock support of some type to my S&W 500, except now I am in violation of the Short Barrel Rifle requirements.

It doesn’t beat sbr laws. If you put a full blown butt stock you have to fill out the forms and get it approved by the atf. If it has an arm brace it is not a rifle just like the ar-15 ordeal. Research and educate so we are prepared for the negative and uneducated.

With the brace in place it’s not a SBR ,it’s still a pistol. If you add a rifle stock you’d have to do the paperwork+fees for a SBR. Read the article again…slower this time.😁

Has nobody cared to extrapolate what Sig has done with their serialized trigger? Now the trigger IS THE firearm. Anybody see the antigunners here in some way using this concept to regulate triggers that allow for a better operating firearm?
Maybe I’m just not awake yet but I can.
    These people are sick.
