PTR’s new 9SDM integrates a removable suppressor, ported barrel, and MP5-style roller-delayed system into a modernized SD rifle. That combination defines PTR’s latest two models.
It blends the company’s legacy 9mm platforms with newer suppressor technology. PTR showed the rifles at SHOT Show with production already underway.

A Modern Take on the SD Concept
PTR calls the platform the 9SDM, with the “M” standing for modernization. Unlike traditional SD firearms, the 9SDM is not permanently locked to one suppressor. The system uses a serialized pre-suppressor blast chamber, called the USDA (Universal SD Adapter), paired with a removable suppressor. Both components are legally suppressors, making the rifle a true three–tax stamp setup.
The USDA sits flush with the barrel and strips gas before it enters the main suppressor. PTR threads the adapter to accept either HUB Alpha or HUB Bravo suppressor patterns, depending on the model. That design lets users run compatible suppressors they already own. It also gives the freedom to use the secondary suppressor on other platforms.

Ported Barrel Built for Supersonic Ammo
At the center of the system is a 6-inch ported barrel with a very specific twist. PTR cut gas ports directly into the rifling grooves and timed them precisely with the barrel’s rifling pattern. This approach avoids jacket damage and reduces fouling, two long-standing issues with older SD designs.

The ports bleed velocity from standard 115- and 124-grain 9mm ammunition. By the time the bullet reaches the suppressor, it drops below roughly 950 feet per second. Shooters can run common supersonic range ammo and still get subsonic performance.
Alpha vs. Bravo Models
The PTR 9SDM-B ships with the new VENT SDM suppressor threaded in HUB-Bravo. PTR designed it specifically for the 9SDM. It uses 3D-printed titanium, PIP technology, and a DLC coating to manage sound and back pressure.

The 9SDM-A comes configured as a factory SBR. It includes the CS1 collapsible stock and the VENT 2 suppressor in HUB-Alpha. While not originally designed for the SDM, PTR says it performs well on the platform.

Features, Pricing, and Availability
Both models include a full-length Picatinny rail, removable M-LOK forend, metal Magpul backup sights, and an extended charging handle. They both offer the pre-suppressor blast chamber that is legally classified as a suppressor.
MSRP ranges from roughly $3,800 to $4,000. PTR plans to ship during SHOT Show, not months later. Great timing for those who want a triple tax stamp firearm when tax stamps are now free.
