The race is over! And the National Rifle Association congratulated Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. Wednesday for winning a Democratic primary race against his challenger, Chris Moews, a Milwaukee police lieutenant.
“On behalf of the NRA’s five million members, we would like to congratulate Sheriff David A. Clarke on his hard fought victory in yesterday’s Primary election for Milwaukee County Sheriff,” said Chris W. Cox, the NRA-ILA’s executive director.
All precincts have reported, showing that the sheriff has received 52 percent of the vote compared to Moews 48 percent.
The NRA was perhaps eager to celebrate the victory because it’s a stick in the eye to former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to unseat Clarke, a vocal supporter of one’s right to keep and bear arms.
“Sheriff Clarke’s outspoken commitment to the Second Amendment earned him the admiration of NRA members and gun owners nationwide,” said Cox. “His dedication to freedom and the Constitution also earned him the wrath of gun control elitist Michael Bloomberg and his allies, who spent over half a million dollars (more money than both candidates in this race combined) trying to defeat Sheriff Clarke.”
“But in the end, Bloomberg’s money could not buy the hearts and minds of the voters,” the NRA’s chief lobbyist concluded.
Sheriff Clarke brought the house down at the NRA annual Show and Exhibit in downtown Indianapolis last spring.
