Pope Francis: Firearms Manufacturers Can’t Call Themselves Christians

in Authors, Brent McCluskey, Rapid Fire, This Week

As it turns out, you can’t be a firearms manufacturer or investor and a Christian, at least according some politically charged comments made by Pope Francis Sunday.

Pope Francis addressed the young people during a speech about war, trust, and politics, explaining that Christians can’t claim to trust God with one hand, while building weapons with the other.

“If you trust only men you have lost,” Pope Francis told the young people “It makes me think of… people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit of distrust, doesn’t it?”

The Pope also touched on World War II and the failure of the world powers at the time, asking why they didn’t destroy the railroads leading to the concentration camps.

“The great powers had photographs of the railway routes that the trains took to the concentration camps, like Auschwitz, to kill the Jews, and also the Christians, and also the Roma, also the homosexuals,” said Pope Francis. “Tell me, why didn’t they bomb [those railroads]?”

Pope Francis did not reference any Scripture to back up his claims.

So, manufacturing bombs and using them is good, whereas simply manufacturing guns is bad?

  • gary December 16, 2016, 2:10 pm

I do not see how the Pope can call himself a Christian sitting on top of all that wealth with people starving in the world. Don’t call the kettle black, there when your just a pot in the same fire.

  • Gary May 2, 2016, 11:23 am

One last thing to think about, Religion is the cause either direct or indirect of 85-95% of all WARS on this PLANET.

  • Gary May 2, 2016, 11:19 am

The isn’t a Christian either sitting on all that wealth the Catholic church owns, when there are starving all around the world. The church needs put its wealth where its mouth is and start feeding the world, instead of asking everyone to pay for it. Tax free, why, it is a for profit organization, tax the heck out of them. they want to meddle in politics that should be the price.

  • miller July 2, 2015, 1:06 pm

A little money for judas and all your gun making or child molesting sins will go away.

  • Jerry Rivas June 30, 2015, 5:55 pm

And the leader of the largest organized group of child molesters in the world can?????

  • law dawg June 30, 2015, 12:34 pm

Pope Francis should stay out of politics and stick to the teachings of the bible and the Christian religion. Obviously the pope doesn’t have a clue of the U.S.A. constitution. He shouldnt make comments on things he’s not knowledgeable about. There are millions of Christians that have guns and manufacture them. Millions of christian people in the U.S. have guns and are God fearing. They don’t abuse the 2nd amendment and abide by the laws and God’s law……pope Francis comes from a country that has different laws and views. He needs to be striving to save this cess pool that has been created by the progressives, liberals, or what they call themselves.

  • Larry June 30, 2015, 12:20 pm

Can anyone even tell me what denomination Billy Graham is associated with? While Mr Graham has spent his entire long life doing nothing but bringing people to God thru Jesus Christ, what has any pope done besides bring people to the “Church” & all it’s man made doctrine & dogma?

  • Bbaptist June 30, 2015, 10:12 am

I wonder if the pope considers Peter….the first pope a christian? Peter carried a sword and used it in the presence of Jesus.

  • Jerry Hutchison June 30, 2015, 12:51 am

First the Pope says “hat Christians can’t claim to trust God with one hand, while building weapons with the other.” Then he goes on to talk about WII and that the Allies knew about the railroads that took people to the concentration camps, and went on to say “Tell me, why didn’t they bomb those railroads?”

SO you are not a Christian if you build weapons, but its OK to use them??? He can’t have it both ways! Once again this proves the Catholic Church lives in its insulated Vatican cocoon and is out of touch with the reality of the real world.

  • Michael Keim June 29, 2015, 10:28 pm

This from a guy that’s head of the largest group of child molesters in the world. Not only do they keep them on as priests, they protect them. The Catholic Church was also responsible for the Inquisition plus numerous other incidents of brutality and enslaving people all over the world throughout history. What a hypocritical asshole.

  • miles June 29, 2015, 9:34 pm

Everyone it’s ok to be a hypocrite and want one thing for the masses and another for themselves and the elite.honestly the dung that spews from Judas’ mouth is astonishing

  • John June 29, 2015, 8:05 pm

Could’ve swore that guy David needed a projectile weapon to defend against a giant looking to take his head off. I guess if you throw or sling it, its holier than something fired out of a barrel.

  • Ted June 29, 2015, 7:07 pm

The Pope is a dope and getting worse by the day.

  • Buzz June 29, 2015, 6:51 pm

Maybe the pope is not a Christian either. As a non-denominational Christian and former Catholic, I find the Catholic myths disturbing and cult-like. There is no reference in my Bible of a pope. Yes, Peter was told by Jesus he would be the Rock upon which the church would be built. Jesus was not, in my humble opinion, talking about a man made, self righteous, off-shoot of Christianity. If you have read the Bible you know there are many examples from Jesus about rituals that He spoke against. Many of those are part of the Catholic ceremony. Oops, I forgot, many Catholics have never read the bible from beginning to the end.

My biggest question is…does the pope’s security team use guns of any shape or form? Or do they protect him with rocks, slings, swords and spears. Just wondering where the hypocrisy starts and ends.

    Amen.

  • Kalashnikov Dude June 29, 2015, 4:46 pm

I call myself a Christian. Not a Catholic though. I never gave the Pope much mind. Until this one began to speak out about how the poor are treated. Until he washed the feet of his supporters. I really kind of respected the man. Then this. This guy went off the rails! He was doing great, renewing my confidence of common sense and decency prevailing. Then all of a sudden, he starts spewing nonsense about people all over the world that provide means for the powers of good to triumph over evil by manufacturing the weapons required to keep evil at bay. I recently started building AK’s from bent flats. It’s a little disturbing knowing this great religious leader thinks I’m Satan. I wonder how many armed individuals I might meet if I just tried to approach him in order to question his remarks?

  • 4x4moses June 29, 2015, 2:44 pm

Yet another reason I’m not Catholic. I know for a fact that my pastor is a gun-lover (shoot with him often); and I suspect he may even carry a pistol into the pulpit each Sunday!

  • Winston June 29, 2015, 2:03 pm

The Vatican was in bed with Mussolini ( the Vatican still holds commercial properties in Europe it acquired during these years ) during the fascist glory years in Old Europe, and it now sides with neo-fascism. Nothing has changed.

  • Mitch B June 29, 2015, 1:57 pm

I’m Catholic but this Pope is a dope. He needs to stick to church doctrine and not comment on things he knows nothing about.

  • Duane Bessette June 29, 2015, 1:46 pm

Nonsense. His Holiness did not say these persons were not Christian. He merely reflected on the conflict between war and those who profit from it. Was it not Jesus who said, “those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword”?

    • hey July 1, 2015, 12:03 am

Duane-Nonsense, In my last statement I was clearly not insinuating “the pope did not say these persons where not Christians…..” I was clearly pointing out he is a hippocrite that is wearing millions of dollars worth of jewelry while there are millions of starving people, therefor I do not respect or believe in the pope any more than a lobbied politician. For that matter I would much rather invest in weapons rather than child molesters. This a greedy world governed by the elite that rule and order through chaos and confusion when the time is right. When the time comes to prevail I may live by the sword but not the sword alone. Besides we all got to perish by something, better not be through being defenseless by ignorance. The pope understands this with his armed guards. Money is a part of war, weather it come from tax dollars or investors we are all contributing to war to maintain or gain power weather we like it or not unless you leave civilized society and choose not to work. Also Peter which was one of Jesus ‘s decipals was quick to live by the sword, he even had the nerve swipe a Roman ‘s ear off before the trial.

  • hey June 29, 2015, 1:43 pm

What about the Christians who pay taxes to a government that buys devastating weapons? DO SWORDS COUNT? What about Abraham ‘s decedents who made and bought steel for swords to kill the giants occupying the land they wanted?
The pope is so full of it, if he really cared about humanity he would sell those million dollars rings on his fingers and feed the starving rather than paying boys to polish them.

  • James June 29, 2015, 1:26 pm

My argument for what the Pope says is very basic. If weapon manufacturers are not Christian, then this must include all the blacksmiths in the world to ever make swords and knives for Knights.

  • Carl June 29, 2015, 1:04 pm

While he is entitled to his opinion, he better closely consider several things. If the Pope is adamant about this, then he better send the Swiss Guard home. No more guns used to defend the Pope. Also, if he is serious, then he needs to ensure that no police or military in any places he visits use firearms to protect him.

The Church has lead some of the bloodiest wars in all history. This Pope is a hypocrite and should renounce the position because of it. I believe that is one of the things Popes are not supposed to be.

He said a few other things about history that indicate he has no idea what he is talking about, or perhaps that he is getting senile. Time for a new Pope – this one is losing it.

  • Fred June 29, 2015, 12:43 pm

I guess Peter was not a Christian either since he obviously carried a sword and used it by cutting off the servants ear. I know with the Lord he didn’t need it but he still carried it!!!!!!!!!!!

This is said by a guy[that’s ALL he is] who has bodyguards and bulletproof vehicles. Talk about faith, where is his?

  • Gary June 29, 2015, 11:46 am

The Pope then can not be Christian as he is casts stones at people he does not even know.

  • L Cavendish June 29, 2015, 11:27 am

This from the pope that said he would PUNCH someone that insulted his mother. Violence…against words. Whatever happened to “turn the other cheek”?
How does he feel about his Hispanic brothers and sisters producing and selling drugs? No way that THEY can be Christians either. RIGHT?!

  • Reticent Rogue June 29, 2015, 11:10 am

“Firearms manufacturers cannot call themselves Christians” is not the same thing as “manufacturing firearms leads to a bit of mistrust.” People get this stupid by letting David Corn interpret for them what the Pope (or anyone else) said. Blannelberry, you really have to work on your abilities to read, comprehend and draw your own valid conclusions.

    • Duane Bessette June 29, 2015, 1:49 pm

At last an intelligent response from someone who can actually read.

  • Alan June 29, 2015, 10:11 am

Do evil men have weapons? Of course they do. As should ALL Christian soldiers.
It is NOT the inanimate object that creates and propagates evil, but the minds of men.
Without weapons or guns, evil men would use rocks.
For this man to claim to be Pope and talk of inanimate weapons instead of what is in the hearts and minds of men is bordering on sacrilege.

  • Kimberpross June 29, 2015, 9:55 am

I didn’t realize a communist was a Christian Pope Francis. How did you make it to this level in the Church?

  • joe June 29, 2015, 9:42 am

What about the manufacturers of the weapons his guards carry?

I’m suppose they’ve got an exemption.

  • Larry Koehn June 29, 2015, 8:39 am

I think that the pope may be the false prophet of Revelations, preparing the way for the antichrist! See, it is just as easy to be as obnoxious as the pope.

  • MB June 29, 2015, 6:54 am

The Pope was selected by Satan, as it’s obvious he didn’t read the bible: Luke 22:36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. ” We have been warned about listening to Satan’s minions… The Pope’s armory at the Vatican is one of the best equipped in the world, I don’t see him giving up his guns, you should not also.

  • John Deahl June 29, 2015, 6:06 am

The Pope should ask the church accountants what gun stocks and arms manufacturers they invest in and own.

    • hey June 29, 2015, 1:32 pm

John, they invest in child molesters.

  • David W. Stephenson June 29, 2015, 4:46 am

I have no idea what this guy who they call a pope thinks he is,but calling people who manufacture anything then calling them non Christians is about the stupipist thing I have heard TODAY. This guy is the supposed leader of the Catholic chruch, he needs to stick to leading the church and not talk about things he has no idea about. Does this mean if I make bullets I’m a non Christian, thats bull and everyone who reads this publication knows it. This man that was elected to lead the Catholic church, should stick to what he was elected to, as I’m hearing there are many Catholics who are not believers of this pope francis because of his dumba$$ coments. I believe in GOD and I don’t need some guy with a beenie cap, wearing a white dress covered in gold carring a gold septer telling me I don’t believe in GOD. People also have to kiss his hand or ring,NOW that sounds like some form of a dictatorship or a cult, I mean do you really have to do that in order to believe in his GOD, I DON”T THINK SO! I was born a Proud Christian American, and I dont need someone from Italyto tell me I’m a non believer when he doesn’t even know anything about me. And thats my 2 cents

Hitler rose in power. Required firearms registration in Germany then confiscated those firearms. The people who did not want to follow Hitler’s total control of the people execution of their friends, neighbors and families (all German citizens) were helpless.
Ottoman/Turkey and Armenia had fought for Centuries. Turkey imposed Armenian gun control in 1915 and Genocide of the unarmed Armenians began.

He decries those who make weapons but asks why did the train tracks to the concentration camps not get bombed? Should he not lead by example and expel the arms in residence with the Swiss Guard? Who will keep ISIS from his gates? Good must have the tools to fight Evil or their will be nothing for the meek to inherit.

Good verses Evil is appropriate for the Pulpit. Political issues like gun control are not. I find it extremely perplexing that people of deep and passionate faith will forgive the sinner who murders one or a group of people then hold an inanimate object “responsible”.

  • Lui Pestana June 24, 2015, 3:53 am

This guy is Obama’s partner in crime. Together they are trying to take guns out of the hands of the good guys. He has his nerve to even say a certain groups can not call themselves Christian. He does not represent Christians, just the Catholic church. I for one don’t consider the pope as a representative of god any more then any other Priest or Reverend.

  • Mark S. June 23, 2015, 11:53 am

Many practicing Catholics worry that this heretic and enabler of perverts “subsisting in” the Chair of Peter is the one “not canonically elected to the papacy… destroyer, not a pastor” that St. Francis of Assisi prophesied would afflict the Church in the End Times. Lobbying by “Team BERGoglio” BEFORE the conclave disqualified him from the papacy. Hence his “election” is NOT canonical. https://fromrome.wordpress.com/2015/02/10/team-bergoglio-is-a-heretical-conspiracy-to-overthrow-the-church-of-christ/
Other canonical impediments include his dubious priestly ordination and episcopal consecration. Catholics have suffered dozens of ANTI-popes over 2,000 years of Church history. BERGoglio may be another one.

His constant submission to the Pharisees has afflicted him the hypocrisy disease (Matthew 6:2, 5; 15:7; 22:18; 23:13, 14, 15, 23, 25, 27, 28, 29; Mark 7:6; Luke 13:15). Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas. So, the hypocrite who has hundreds of armed guards, many of them carrying Beretta, Steyr, and HK machine guns, now claims it isn’t Christ-like for the rest of us to be armed.

Pope shouldn’t make such comments. That is why Catholic church is shrinking. Some radio commentators think that something is FISHY here. Pope did many strange comments. see http://www.nationalinvetigativemedia.com, mrc.org, arranewsservice.com

    • Denis Saint Paris February 15, 2017, 2:26 pm

      Finally!
A Catholic commentor defending the Faith! And one well-catechized enough to know this Francis is a wolf in SHEPHERD’S clothing.
Did you ever think you’d see the day when Holy Mother Church is defending Herself against countless child rape accusations and a heretical pope?
Filthy men. They will stand before God and be judged! They are NOT Catholic and FILTH is NOT Catholic doctrine!

Now excuse me, I’ve some guns to clean…
