A few pieces of firearm history bear little resemblance in the modern world. One of them was the Ithaca Auto & Burglar Gun. It was what we would call today a “sawed off shotgun,” though it was made short on purpose, not actually cut off. Smooth-bored, the Ithaca Auto & Burglar Gun pretty much disappeared after the National Firearms Act of 1934, when the government imposed a $200 tax on short shotguns. Later the tax was reduced to $5, but people back then weren’t into registering trusts and buying NFA weapons with them, like many do today.
This new gun from Pedersoli, called the Howdah, is an almost exact looking replica of that gun, but the barrels are of course rifled, to comply with those same NFA regulations. It has a 3″ chamber, to accommodate magnum .410 shells, and it will also shoot .45 Colt.
With a street price of $1,300, and a very limited production, this is not a alternative CCW gun. But if you are a student of gun history and you want something that none of your friends have, the Howdah is a nicely crafted pistol that looks and feels like a high end round body .410 shotgun, and that is an NFA legal short shotgun.
Also in this video are the new race ready 1873 Colt Peacemakers from Pedersoli. Also going for just north of $1,300, they are being imported as parts in the white, and then finished and tuned here in the US.

$1300 for a maybe $300 shotgun? Seriously? You could buy several Judges for the price. If you’re going to spend $1300 on this, might as well pony up for the real thing. At least then you’ll have something that will retain its value.
The last Auto and Burglar I found is $4900.
This pistol, though expensive, is sort of cool, and might be useful with barrels (maybe interchangeable) dedicated to one cartridge, or another. Trying to shoot underpowered shotshells (20 Ga would be more practical) through a half-rifled barrel, or pistol cartridges out of a chamber far too long, and an improperly rifled barrel, destroys the usefulness of either.
This is another reason the National Firearms Act needs to be repealed. The restrictions on short-barreled rifles and shotguns, silencers, etc. were nonsense from the beginning, and if full-autos must be registered or controlled, it should be in a much less restrictive manner. If the NRA was any good, they’d be working toward getting rid of some of the useless and unconstitutional existing laws, rather than cutting deals on new ones.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms confiscated a shipment of airsoft guns, mainly M4 GBB rifles from WE after it was seized by the US Customs and Border Protection last October in Tacoma, Washington. The importer, Brad Martin, who is in the airsoft business for seven years are \”flabbergasted\” with the seizure and planned destruction of the confiscated airsoft guns.

That shipment is worth around $12,000 and the ATF is promising to destroy the entire shipment. Special Agent Kelvin Crenshaw said the toys can be easily retro-fitted into dangerous weapons. Jon Dibblee, a U.S. Army infantryman — categorically denied that the WE Tech M4s could be made into machine guns, an expert opinion supported by a gunsmith specializing in the AR rifle who examined another WE Tech in great detail. The gunsmith determined:The WE TTI M4s lack any sort of functional gas tube, which is integral to an AR15’s operation.
The upper receiver of an AR15 fits onto the lower of the WE TTI M4.
The stock trigger pack in the WE TTI cannot strike the firing pin of a AR15 bolt.
The body of the WE TTI lower is several mils thinner than an AR15 lower, and shims would be needed for any AR trigger pack to work.
The trigger pack of an AR15 appears to be able to fit onto the lower receiver of a WE TTI M4, one of the AR15 trigger pack retaining pins is impossible to insert without major modification, and the hammer isn’t operable with the WE TTI lower.In short, multiple experts examined the dubious ATF claim and found that the WE Tech rifles confiscated by the CBP and slated for destruction by the ATF cannot be converted to machine guns, or any other kind of working firearm.

I’ve been a collector of antique and vintage firearms since the late 60’s and thought the REAL original 20 ga. was impressive years ago . This is a very cool thing , but but once again I will never own one …… sad . The price is outrageous .
Was fortunate to be able to shoot one of the original Home,Auto, and Burglar guns, (legally by the way).Actually it was kind of a handfull! Our Department had one left in our Armory from some long a go Sherriff,

Bond Arms builds a OU 410/45LC and they are easy to carry and get at when needed.

So $1200 for a piece of junk? The 410/45colt fad has gone way to far. The one I made the mistake of buying one, was worthless as a 45 colt, and worthless as a 410. The long chamber jump ruined any accuracy with a 45 colt. and the rifling ruined it as a shotgun. Then you go in the store and Taurus now sells a long barreled ‘target’ version. Probably more accurate to throw the colts at the target. But we know there will be people line up to buy one of this ‘limited’ series. Maybe they know it would never sell on a wide scale.
The .45LC is my favorite cartridge.
And the bitch of it is, Taurus dropped their 5 shot Tracker 460 Titanium, a very practical handgun for backpacking and hiking, for that FUGLY POS Judge!
IMO, the .45lc/.410 is only useful in a derringer. As a last ditch self defense tool.

You can see the interviewer thought it was way over priced as well. It’s a shame that company’s feel that they have to charge such obscene amounts for things like this. I’d love to have one of those Howdah’s but it would have to be less than half of what they want for me to even consider it.

As I recall, the Ithaca was a 20 gauge.
Pedersoli does offer a 20-gauge Howdah but the only one I’ve seen is a muzzle loader which would make it NFA-exempt. Lots of 45/410 handguns out there but not in bigger gauges. Just the recoil of a truly “carry-size” 12- or even 20-gauge pistol would be enough to limit their market potential, but there must be a legal reason you don’t see them.
45/410 is legal because it’s rifled for .45. it’s a 45 handgun that just happens to accept a shotgun shell. there is no equivalent pistol cartridge for 12ga or 20 ga. so there aren’t any legal pistols that can also fire 12 or 20ga w/o a $200 NFA tax stamp

You might be right but a .45 Colt cartridge sure doesn’t need a 3-inch chamber, so guns like the Taurus Judge are very deliberately designed to shoot .410 shells–it isn’t just a coincidence. I suspect there’s something more specific in all the legal gobbledygook of NFA and related gun oppression laws that prohibits large-gauge handguns.
I love the look of flame hardened steel, but at that price I do not think many of my poor friends will have one of these. I can’t afford one either.
