The PBS NewsHour segment discusses the challenges of obtaining a gun permit in New York City, even after the 2022 Supreme Court decision that struck down a century-old law requiring “proper cause” for concealed carry.
Despite the ruling, New York quickly enacted new regulations, including the (unconstitutional) Concealed Carry Improvement Act, which maintains strict background checks and training requirements.
The segment features perspectives from gun store owner John DeLoca, who supports the new safeguards, and attorney Peter Tilem, who argues that the new restrictions unfairly target law-abiding citizens.

The report also highlights ongoing concerns about illegal guns in the city, despite recent declines in violent crime.
As NYC concealed carrier Michael Schiavone told the station, “There’s tons of guns on the street. We are faced with people having illegal firearms, and they are all over the place.”
“So that puts the citizens in a very bad situation,” he continued. “Especially in the subway system, in those areas where someone might want to take a firearm, we now cannot do that.”

The whole problem of New York’s arrogant self-absorption could be solved by one five-megaton airburst at 3500 feet over the Empire State building.
Wait for residual radiation to die down, replant trees, nice national park.
I’d miss the Arms and Armor exhibit at the Met, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a few good Jewish deli’s, but hey, to make an omelet….
PBS…….I’m sure there will be a follow up story stacked with commies and their anti gun crap!
