Olympian Kim Rhode Opposes Anti-Gun Ballot Initiative in New Video

In a new video, olympian Kim Rhode is voicing her strong opposition to a draconian California ballot measure that, if passed, would infringe upon one’s right to keep and bear arms.

The ballot measure, known as Proposition 63, was the brainchild of anti-gun Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom. It would institute all of the of the following:

• Requires individuals to pass a background check and obtain Department of Justice authorization to purchase ammunition.
• Prohibits possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines, and requires their disposal, as specified.
• Requires most ammunition sales be made through licensed ammunition vendors and reported to Department of Justice.
• Requires lost or stolen firearms and ammunition be reported to law enforcement.
• Prohibits persons convicted of stealing a firearm from possessing firearms.
• Establishes new procedures for enforcing laws prohibiting firearm possession.
• Requires Department of Justice to provide information about prohibited persons to federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System

Prop. 63 is nothing more than an attempt by the state to chill the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners through excessive fees and unnecessary red tape.

If passed, one would be required to obtain a permit to buy ammunition. That permit would cost $50 and would expire after four years. Additionally, if one wanted to sell ammunition (more than 50 rounds), one would have to also obtain a permit, which would only be good for one year.

That’s insane! That’s taxing one’s right 2A rights. But it gets worse.

Prop. 63 reneges on a grandfather clause for magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, forcing citizens to destroy or forfeit their lawfully owned property. This is unconstitutional. Making legal arms and accessories illegal is infringement, as my friend Alan Korwin as noted in his article, “American Protection of Arms Declaration,”

The other parts of Prop. 63 are equally as bad, exposing gun owners to liability if they fail to report the theft or loss of a firearm or ammunition within five days to local law enforcement. Dealers, likewise, will have 48 hours to report to authorities the theft or loss of a firearm or ammunition. Also, individuals will no longer be allowed to purchase ammo from out of state unless they bring it through an FFL or gun shop.

In the video, posted by the Coalition for Civil Liberties, Rhode, who has won a medal in six consecutive Olympic games, boils it down to brass tacks.

“It’s a fact: Harsh gun laws like Proposition 63 are not the answer,” Rhode says. “They only hurt law-abiding people and do nothing to stop terrorists. Proposition 63 takes away the rights of tens of thousands of gun owners across California.”

Prop. 63 makes it more costly and cumbersome for one to exercise their Constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms. Prop. 63 is infringement. Prop. 63 is unconstitutional. Californians, get the word out, Vote “NO” on Prop. 63!!!

(On a side note: I just want to say that I’ve met Kim Rhode in person and she is awesome!  You’ll never meet a nicer, more engaging, more approachable professional athlete than Mrs. Rhode.  I promise you.  She is, as they say, “good people.”  A true role model.)
