An Ohio homeowner found a suspected intruder in his home earlier this week and fatally shot him.
Early Sunday morning, noises on the West Chester house’s balcony caught the homeowner’s attention. He suspected an intruder and found 22-year-old Isaiah Erickson in his apartment.
Homeowner Acts
According to Fox 19, the homeowner acted quickly and shot the suspected intruder.
Police arrived at the home and took Erickson to get medical assistance. Erickson entered the hospital in critical condition and died shortly after.
In a Fox News report, the police claimed that the homeowner was still armed when they arrived.
The case is still under investigation, per WLWT.
Neighborhood Concern
Neighbors were shocked to learn what happened.
Across the street from the shooting, Lisa Martin said, “I might not let my kids play outside anymore by themselves. Make them play in the backyard,” she told Local 12.
“It makes me kind of scared, but I’m kind of in shock. I didn’t know anything like that would happen this close to home,” Martin said.
“I was really shocked,” Gerri Brockman told WLWT. “This does not happen here. This is a nice, quiet place to live.”
“I’ve got to defend myself now,” another neighbor said.
Conclusion
Neighborhoods are typically nice and quiet until something happens. Parents like Martin are trusting and believe their kids will always be safe playing on the street.
We can hope this is true, and in many cases it will be. Not every neighborhood will witness a fatal shooting or a home break-in.
