A new NYPD unit tasked with stemming the city’s rising rates of violent crime arrested 25 people on gun charges in the first three weeks since launching in March. At least 11 of those suspects are now back on the streets, including four who were released without bail, according to the New York Post.

New York lawmakers are sounding the alarm about the city’s lax bail policies, and some have pointed out the hypocrisy of going after “gun violence” without addressing the criminals who pull the trigger.

“We can talk about ‘gun violence’ all we want, but if we don’t lock people up with those guns, it’s all lefty talking points,” City Councilman Joe Borelli told The Post. “The debate over bail reform in this year’s budget involved questioning what could leaders get away with without actually hurting them at the polls.”

Borelli is referencing modest changes to the bail system that just passed in New York’s state budget. An overwhelming majority of New Yorkers supported the reforms, but many believe they didn’t go far enough. Only about a third believe the changes will help drive down crime, according to a recent survey.

To help stem the rising tide of violence, New York Mayor Eric Adams announced in January a “Blueprint to End Gun Violence” along with new “Neighborhood Safety Teams” to arrest residents suspected of illegal gun possession.

While the team has apparently seen some success confiscating firearms, many of the individuals responsible for those crimes remain on the streets.

One suspect, for example, was found in the Bronx carrying a 9mm Taurus handgun, according to The Post. He was arrested but released soon after on “supervised release.”

The next day in Brooklyn, officers arrested two 19-year-olds who were drinking tequila and carrying a loaded B6C Sarsilmaz 9mm pistol. The pair was charged with a second-degree felony for firearm possession, but both were released without bail.

Another suspect was released without bail after he was found with drugs in his car and a loaded .380 Hi-Point Model CF in his bedroom. He was additionally charged with “criminal obstruction of breathing” for choking his girlfriend, the mother of his children.

In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Mayor Adams admitted that bail policies have swung too far “to the left.”

“We were so far in the wrong direction of really abusive policing in our city and country that people got so fed up that they turned the ship too far in the wrong direction,” Adams told correspondent Anderson Cooper.

Cooper asked, “Too far to the left, you’re saying?”

“To the left,” the mayor said.

As a retired Marine of 21 yrs and a retired Ohio Correctio’s Officer I have heard every excuse there is for the failed systems. With all of the Judges, Law-enforcement, Attorneys, and Politicians, the enforcement of our laws against crimes, has no chance. I saw Ohio Corrections Director caught red handed taking money from the food services and inmates and he was removed from Director and move him to another department and kept the same pay. I have watched Judges show favoritism toward those that he/she knew and some for money or political favors. Our Constitution was written in plain English of laws that made since. BBut it is all lost to a people that care less.

Maybe blacks should be teaching their children to love and respect the police, and do as they say, and their children will not be putting their lives in jeopardy. The blacks that I know say they were taught at a young age to not respect the police. Thats not good…

Just another case of corrupt officials in the democrat party and a blue state . No laws apply to them . That is , As long as you work for the delusional democrats . You can see how well their gun control works . It doesn’t unless your in blm or antfia terrorists groups . Don’t you see a trend here … it’s always in democrat ran states that this crap happens . Not in red ran states , that’s cause red states up hold the law , not turn their backs on it like the blue states do . How stupid do you have to be to defend the police ??? Blacks are killing more blacks then before cause of corrupt blacks officials running blue states . What does that tell you about them deciding to defend the police . You can’t make this crap up … they really are this stupid and in control of you and your familys life’s . God help us .

You mean the “anti constitutional right unit”.

And this has to be frustrating for the police officers. They arrested this person today. Tomorrow they will arrest them again. Makes the paperwork easier. Just copy and paste and change the dates, but now you’ve reduced an already reduced police force because officer of arresting someone they arrested last week.

They should be called the “anti constitutional rights unit”. It must be disappointing to violate the constitution and peoples constitutional rights and then they get right back out of the gulag the next day.

This is what many liberals cannot understand, if there is a problem with a system, completely reversing course can, and usually causes as much or more problems. Small doses of change and then evaluation to see how those changes worked is a better, less disruptive solution. And for those who say the system is racist, if most of the arrests are of black people, is this a criminal problem or a social problem. While you’re trying to repair a severed artery, you first have to stop the bleeding.

“Criminal obstruction of breathing” for the win. Love a good mostly peaceful euphemism.

    “Abusive policing” ?!?!
As in cops beating up those they arrest??
That’s illegal to begin with, weed out the bad cops, but going easy of gun toting criminals is B.S. under ALL circumstances!
Or are they referencing some kind of racial aspect????????
Sounds like left wing doublespeak to me, regardless of color, crime is crime.
If a disproportionate number are of a certain color, and the arrest was righteous, it’s NOT the fault of the cops.

If they’re just going to release them back on the streets without even having to post bail, then what’s the point in arresting them at all?

Seems to me this so-called “Anti-Gun Unit” is nothing more than a feel-good attempt to satisfy the anti-gun crowd by being able to claim ‘Look what we did here! Remember who to vote for.’

    IOW, it’s useless…
