Newly sworn-in New York Mayor Eric Adams announced this week a “Blueprint to End Gun Violence.” The 15-page plan calls for a bevy of new programs and initiatives, including ramping up police presence in problem neighborhoods, allowing judges to consider “dangerousness” when determining bail, and reallocating resources to mental health services.

Like many other mayors, however, Adams also blames out-of-state gun purchases for the violence plaguing his city. He calls for the end of the so-called “Iron Pipeline” along the east coast that traffickers use to bring guns into New York, asks Congress to ban private firearms sales and “assault weapons,” and vows to start performing “spot checks” for guns at bus and train stations.

“Our officers are doing heroic work getting guns off the street. But traffickers keep the guns coming. That must end. We must stop the flow of illegal guns into our city. The Iron Pipeline must be broken,” he said in his speech announcing the plan.

New York City has imposed some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, and carrying a firearm is already illegal, as Adams admits. And yet, in 2021 alone, the NYPD removed more than 6,000 guns off New York City streets, and they’ve already confiscated 350 in the first weeks of 2022.

Adams blames other states for the guns in his city. As part of his plan, New York City officials will “deepen coordination with the ATF and FBI” to “find the dealers and traffickers of every illegal gun in our city, and hold them accountable.” Adams vows to use “impact jurisdiction” lawsuits to target individuals and gun sellers outside his jurisdiction.

Adams also plans to use “new technologies and software” to “identify dangerous individuals and those carrying weapons.” He does not elaborate on the nature of this technology or how it will avoid violating the constitutional rights of American citizens.

The mayor also blames Congress for his city’s spike in violent crime.

“It is time for our federal leaders to rise to the occasion, and pass common-sense legislation that is supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans,” he says.

Those “common-sense” reforms include “UNIVERSAL background checks for all gun purchases” (all caps in original), a ban on so-called “assault weapons,” and a mobilization against the “proliferation of ghost guns.”

Adams also wants Congress to repeal the Tiahrt Amendment. The Tiahrt Amendment prohibits gun trace data from being made public and is designed to protect innocent gun dealers from persecution if they unintentionally sell a gun to a straw purchaser. Without those protections in place, the ATF would be free to publicly shame every gun store that sells a gun to a criminal—whether intentionally or otherwise.

Adams vowed in his speech to implement his plan “in the coming weeks” alongside his “partners in Albany and Washington, D.C.”

Anybody remember ” nobody needs to have a gun except the army, the police, and my bodyguards, and im not so sure about the police” that was famously attributed to prince teddy? Here west of the Rockies, i dont recall hearing much about Adams, but do seem to recall he was anti to the defund the police thing. Just dident hear he was so verschlagener verruckt about guns. So, when is he gonna attack honda for alla that streetracing? Legalise (and limit) only 12 oz sugardrinks? and personally brush the salt off the chips and fries? (Oh, yes, thankyou steve) and “order the letter ‘M’ be removed from the alphabet”?

  • e January 30, 2022, 7:32 pm

How about a “impact jurisdiction” lawsuit against NY for spreading non American and non constitutional B.S. to the rest of the country.

  • Hondo January 29, 2022, 8:04 pm

New York City got what they voted for, I hope they enjoy their choice.

  • Dale January 28, 2022, 3:55 pm

You want to end gun violence? You better spread the word to your black, inner city, drug dealing brothers that are killing thousands every year.

  • KMacK January 28, 2022, 3:39 pm

Another idiot in a Mayor’s suit. Yes, we need to get violent people with guns off the streets…but targeting “Assault Weapons”? First off, most likely the Legal definition of an Assault Weapon will be ignored and a politically generated description will be put in its place.
Secondly, guns of any sort aren’t “Assault Weapons”, they are TOOLS of assault. The only real “Assault Weapon” that has ever existed sits between one’s ears and just above the eyes. Is the Mayor going to try confiscating THAT? Good luck… And start with the Cops first, so they serve as an example.
One thing is certain: with this law the Mayor proves he does not posess an “Assault Weapon” of any sort…

  • CG January 28, 2022, 1:37 pm

WTF is “impact jurisdiction”? I can’t find any legal reference to this term as it applies to a lawsuit. Does anyone on here have any reference to this terminology? Thanks in advance.

And Obiden, his coat pockets stuffed with note cards from his handlers, is set to meet with Adams to pow-wow on the issue of “gun violence.” You Know what That meeting will be about!

Adams is a black, Progressive-Socialist mayor. What could possibly go wrong? He just regurgitated word-for-word the Left’s gun-ban mantra:
“It is time for our federal leaders to rise to the occasion, and pass common-sense legislation that is supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans,”

This moron talks about stopping the flow of ILLEGAL guns into his essentially gun-free zone city. The man is a total idiot. Most “illegal” guns are gotten by criminals through theft from legal gun owners. But, according to imbecile Adams, the only way to stop the “Iron Pipeline” is to shut-down the source: FFL dealers in other states.

NY is a breeding ground for vile, toxic politicians. From de Blasio to Adams to Schumer to AOC to Cuomo, and others.

    • Chum Lee January 29, 2022, 10:43 pm

I know I’ve sent my share of gunz to NY from VA. Bloombergstein motivated (and motivates) me thus.

  • Stephen January 28, 2022, 12:38 pm

You can confiscate all you want. It is not going to solve the problem. Also if you are going to tap them on the ass and send them on their way, why bother? DO THE CRIME, DO THE TIME! PERIOD! END OF FRIGGEN STORY! You don’t coddle criminals! YOU PUNISH THEM! Pretty soon NYC won’t have a police dept at all. Who in hell would want to put their life on the line every day just to see perps set free? I sure as hell wouldn’t. These politicians need to get their heads and asses wired together and cut the bullsh$t!

    • KMacK January 28, 2022, 3:43 pm

As I pointed out, the only (and original, never duplicated) Assault Weapon resides between the ears and just above the eyes.
And it seems pretty clear that this Mayor is totally unarmed…
This gun violence is a Symptom of something deeper in our Society. Going after guns is like giving a pedicure to a foot with gangrene…it will eventually fall off, but damn! don’t those toenails look great!
Such is what passes for Politics today.

A low-IQ genetic alien in a foreign city believes traditional people in the hinterlands are going to go along with his radical Soros-directed policies.

  • Ken January 28, 2022, 11:20 am

    Simple solution…

    1) stop and frisk every kid that looks like he/she may be illegally carrying a firearm. Seize the fire arm but do not arrest… that way there is no court to determine that the search and seizure were illegal. Create a legal process by which a person deprived of their firearm can file a claim to get it back… if they qualify to posses it.

    2) become a “shall issue” State… issue as many concealed carry permits as possible… that way if the police want to stop and frisk a citizen he/she can show the permit and retain their firearm.

The problem is not firearms it is young men of certain socio/economic groups that can obtain those firearms…. usually illegally. They should be the primary, but not the only groups, targeted for random searches.

You can help stop or diminish the “illegal” flow of firearms by making firearms available to law abiding citizens by allowing more FFL sanctioned gun shops to operate and by encouraging New Yorkers to participate in firearms sports.

The transport of handguns into NY is almost impossible to stop… they are too easily hidden. The more illegal they are, the higher in value they go. Just like drugs.

I learned to shoot a rifle at age 11 in the Chicago Boy’s Club rifle program. I learned to shoot a pistol in the Chicago Park District pistol team program.

    Times have changed, huh?

    • Jake January 28, 2022, 1:38 pm

I remember the trap shooting club on the Lake and it being a regular feature of life as you drove on Lake Shore Drive. Of course the Democrat scum got rid of that while refusing to prosecute gun crimes and allowing the Sinaloa Cartel to take over Chicago. Somehow these twisted liars still insist it is the legal gun owner’s fault and the lying scum Democrat press blares the lies non-stop.

    • 0352 January 28, 2022, 5:33 pm

      Hey Ken,
Have you never heard of the 4th Amendment to the US Constitution? You know, the prohibition against unlawful search and seizure. Just because Giuliani got away with it doesn’t make it right. Go ahead and argue for more infringements of Americans freedoms. I certainly will not join you. And before you call me a leftist troll, that is hardly the case. If I had my way, all laws and regulations regarding firearms would be eliminated. “shall not be infringed” says it all.

  • Big Al 45 January 28, 2022, 10:48 am

There is a caveat to the old adage “If at first you don’t succeed, ………..”
That being of course, the plan MUST be achievable.
Apparently, no Democrat, particularly N.Y. Democrats, understand this.
It seems to be the same way on The West Coast too.

  • Jerry January 28, 2022, 10:13 am

Et quois custodiet ipsos custides! Aint these the oft-reported ‘most corrupt cops in america’? That old Buck Owens song, I wouldnt live in new york city, if they gave me the whole dang place, comes to mind. If the first, second, et.al ammendments werent so powerful, why does the left try so smokin’ hard to bury them? They werent “added-to” The Constitution, they were tacked-up as ‘ we know these are our rights, we hadent thought we needed to obviate them, so will remind you now; Cant Touch This!

  • Altoids January 28, 2022, 10:09 am

“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss”

  • SuperG January 28, 2022, 9:18 am

Same old Democrat rhetoric. If you really want to slow down crime, first keep criminals in prison. Second, make a law that says if a kid misses school a certain amount of days, as defined by the school district, the parents of that child must stand in municipal court and explain why. Start holding kids back in elementary school if they can’t pass the test. Graduating students that can’t spell their own name only makes a criminal.

    • Stan d. Upnow January 28, 2022, 1:12 pm

Yes. As long as they can check the “diversity” & “equity” boxes on the application, plus pledge allegiance not to their oath of office, but to the Progressive-Socialist agenda, they get the job.

  • Gre727 January 28, 2022, 6:50 am

As long as the focus is on fictitious “gun violence” and inanimate objects any such program is doomed to failure. It’s a CRIME/CRIMINAL problem. Continue to ignore it, and continue to fail.

    • Stan d. Upnow January 28, 2022, 1:21 pm

Don’t you get it yet? The Progressive-Socialists cannot go after the “crime/criminal problem” because the majority of that is being committed by blacks; their voter base. Scared to death they’d be branded “racist,” too.
Look what they’ve done by throwing our southern border wide open. They couldn’t care less about the horrific effects that’s having on Americans and our country. If there’s even a chance that those Illegals vote for them to keep them in power, our health, well-being, and national safety are worth sacrificing, in their view.
